Interesting, not seen it yet but this might sway it for me to wait a little longer to catch it.

Agree with Nolan, how many films can you make in the exact same style and filter for me. Dunkirk I liked, Interstellar was like a 15 minute pink Floyd song, just showy for shows sake

I saw Nope recently and thought it was very good, get it watched. Not really a typical mainstream movie and it was good to see something this original in a time when everything seems like a rehash of something done before.

Recently watched elvis and the new Thor film

elvis…l bloody outstanding. Austin Butler nails every image I’ve seen of Presley and his singing is exceptional

Thor is fun, but a little too jokey
Yeah Austin Butler nailed it. What a ride. Didn't feel that long. Baz Lurrman delivered an amazing audio video experience again. Tom Hanks was weird and made me feel uncomfortable, only towards the end was I convinced it was good acting. Brought my 80+ mom and 50+ aunt along and could see they were emotional long after the show. I didn't realise Elvis had it that bad... Agents... I'm sure there's a similar story in football too.

Agree about Nolan. Clearly a very talented writer and director but his films are all the same tonally, humourless and I usually don’t care about the characters in his films, there’s not much warmth. I liked Inception but Tenet looked like a carbon copy of it. I much prefer his earlier work like Insomnia and The Prestige.

Its similar to many directors, the early work is the real them, then after they become pretentious and showy. I thought the novelty of the Batmans wore of quickly too, most due to what you said and also the length, so having the same tone over several films I never saw as special as some did. Even the revered joker role I never saw as outstanding as others and like you it lacked the humour of the Nicholson version which provided that paradox of almost routing for the bad guy.

I like it a lot, some really clever ideas, the directors cut is better

TBF I ended up really into it at the end

I actually like the recent prequals that tried to explain the whole Alien series but took a couple of watches to get my limited brain round it and felt I missed lots of it the first time. Fasbender was excellent in them too

I really like them both too, I think the stick was mainly due to Scott making a Scott movie that wasn’t an Alien remake.

I really hope he has the third one in him still.

Samaritan with Stallone. It's a really violent kids movie, a less entertaining Last Action Hero. If not for one obvious twist it would have completely sucked.

Without meaning to sound catty or judgemental mate, what films do you like? :D For example what films have you enjoyed recently?

I really liked Bob's Burgers Movie. Latest Minions was good, but not as good as the previous ones.

The best thing I've seen in a long time was the Daredevil tv show which I watched earlier this summer. Outstanding writing, acting and fight choreography. The Punisher was really good as well. Really enjoyed Peacemaker.

It's all in the writing. So many movies are either rushed into production with a half finished script (netflix) or just generic, cliche filled crap trying to recreate something we've seen and liked in the 80s or 90s. Sequels, prequels, remakes, rehashes.

It tries so hard to be funny, but not a single joke works.

All these big franchise movies are utter pants

They are big money in box office because there is a defined market but the days of big production on unique films are near the end, its either Marvel series or Netflix series now. Along with pop stars filling in as actors to boost the sales....

Give me a Mississippi Burning or Three Billboards any day but they are going to be less and less

They'be been gone for ages. The market is families for a night out. Something they can all enjoy and not get at home watching on their 60 inch home cinema. So sfx, dumbed down, inoffensive. Then you have the small budget indie movies that only need a small audience to make their money. Lastly the oscar pitches, films that look at the human condition, bonus points if it deals with race or sexuality.

If you want a good film based on story look to korea.

I’m with you on Daredevil, really enjoyed it. Although I’d argue 13 episodes per season was perhaps 3-5 too many as they start to lag around the middle of the season. Hope the Disney + series will be good, I’d imagine they will make somewhere between 6-9 episodes.

Mostly agree about Netflix, most of their films are pretty pants. I wish they would make less content and focus on quality rather than quantity like Apple, HBO and Disney +. But it seems like their business model is let’s make as much content as possible and make 10 things people kind of like rather than 2 things people really like.
