Morgan Schneiderlin

You only needed to watch us once or twice last season to see that transitioning the ball between our CMs and AMs was probably our biggest problem.

this can be solved on the training ground. Anyway its wrong that our whole way of playing is dependent on one player. iTs something that we have to get away from........also its like harr1984 said, no-one thought twice about Schneiderlin before Poch got there. Poch made him into the player he is now and surely he can have a similar effect on our players.

It wouldn't be dependent on one player. Schneiderlin would be first choice and Bentaleb would be his understudy. It gives Bentaleb a chance to develop but under slightly less pressure and gives us the passer at the base of midfield that we have been crying out for since Modric left.

All other solutions are square pegs in round holes or based on hope over evidence. I think half the people advocating sticking at the moment would be on Poch's back for not having a fully functioning side before the end of the season.

Finally the reason why no one paid much attention to Schneiderlin before Poch arrived is because he had only played six months Premier League football at that point.

you shouldn't be if there was a contract. that gentlemen's agreement, now that's another thing. how in the world these gets used when there are millionaire lawyers working the deal still confounds me.

Indeed.

I can fully understand Schneiderlin's frustration and disappointment given the way that the Saints board have sold most of the other best players around him while singling him out to stay on the sinking ship. But complaining about a verbal agreement not being honoured is just silly and naive.

My ideal foursome would be Sandro, Capoue, Schneiderlin and Bentaleb. Two proper DMs and two deep ballplayers. All a decent age, athletic and use the ball efficiently.

I'd maybe keep one of Dembele or Paulinho for another year so we can ease Bentaleb in a bit.

You're a ****ing legend dude :ross:

the thought of him 'easing' Bentaleb in after he's had his fill of either of Dembele and Paulinho

It's amazing how one word makes such a difference. I like the "and use the ball efficiently" bit best. It has to be one of the funniest posts I've ever read on this site.

[Please don't take offence Gutter Boy -non meant -and by the way that was an interesting fact about the tile patterns on the Tube]

I thought the 'two deep ballplayers' bit was another standout....

Better to depend on one player (with a youngster like Bentaleb or Carroll ready to cover) than to depend only on the youngsters to do the job consistently. Essentially Sherwood's much of a muchness complaint from last season hasn't been sorted out.

Things can be done on the training ground, but for me at least Schneiderlin has a lot of raw ability on the ball that allows him to play in a way that I don't think any of our experienced central midfield options currently will show. For me that kind of ability can't be taught on the training ground quickly. I could be wrong and would love to be wrong and for Sandro, Capoue, Dembele or Paulinho to have that hidden away somewhere. I would feel a lot more confident with Schneiderlin though.

News coming out of Southampton today is that Scheiderlin has trained well for the past week or so and is available for selection for their game this weekend. Seems as though some of the talk about his actions have been somewhat exagerrated by the press!
