Just been sent this, wtf.. how the hell did the 4th official miss this.

I'd suggest Ivanovic may miss the rest of the season.

It's in the Midweek games thread already, but,

Adding injury to insult... Ivanovic 'punches' Wigan player in build-up to offside Chelsea winner

Juan Mata's already-controversial winner against Wigan on Saturday has been revealed to be even more of an unfair blow to the Latics survival hopes than it first appeared.

Branislav Ivanovic appears to punch Shaun Maloney in the stomach as Wigan attack, just before Chelsea broke down the field to score the stoppage time goal.

The FA may act on this if referee Mike Jones confirms he did not see the incident and it could result in a three game ban for the defender at a crucial time of the season for Chelsea.

Ivanovic scored earlier in the game with an offside goal, before Mata also struck from an offside position.

The Serbian defender has been one of Chelsea's best players in recent weeks and could miss vital domestic games as the Blues battle to get back into the top four and fight for the FA Cup.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was appalled by some of the decisions made and raged after the game: 'The linesman had a disgusting performance in my eyes. They aren’t even difficult decisions. Both goals are clearly offside.'

Wigan and QPR fans must feel sick, it's just a disgrace and we should all be able to pull together to actually get some positive change in the matter but it will never happen because the majority of football fans are idiots.

If the unthinkable happens and he gets punished that could be sweet for us FA cup wise but I doubt it will happen.

Given what lies ahead for CFC in the next few weeks Id be amazed if the FA had the balls to ban him, and if Jones does say he saw it, then WTF is he doing letting it go

If Mike Jones says he saw it then he would be lying. Looking at the footage he isn't looking at the incident but in front of himself. FA have to take action.

All well and good getting a 3-match ban, and rightly so. But unfortuantely it doesnt get Wigan a vital League point back.

Those two farcial decisions could cost Wigan their place in the Premiership.
Could even cost us a place in CL, the latter would mean we have dropped too many points ourselves in the last 6 games, so scrub that..

Martin Lipton said on twitter, 3 game ban will be given out tomorrow, Im holding my breath !!!

Branislav Ivanovic is facing a three-game punching ban - but not until after he plays at Fulham tonight.

Video footage (see below) clearly shows the Serbian defended swinging a left fist into the face of Wigan's Shaun Maloney just before Juan Mata's controversial winner for Chelsea on Saturday.

The incident took place directly behind the back of referee Mike Jones who had his eyes firmly on the play in front of him and did not see the clash.

FA disciplinary chiefs have been alerted to the footage and will review the video today before asking Jones to confirm he did not witness what happened.

Chelsea are braced for Ivanovic to receive a violent conduct charge that will bring an automatic three-match suspension.

But with just hours to go before kick-off at Craven Cottage, there is not enough time for the paperwork to be filed and dealt with even under the FA's fast-track procedure before the match at Fulham.

It means Ivanovic is set to miss three London derby clashes, the FA Cup semi-final with Spurs at Wembley on Sunday, the vital trip to Arsenal on April 21 and Chelsea's home game with QPR eight days later.

The nature of the punishment, though, is likely to only add insult to injury for Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, who branded the officials' performance "disgusting" after the harsh defeat.

From the Mirror.

Would be good for us obviously, though as Paxton says, just rubbing salt into Wigan's wounds really.

For once we get the benefit from one of these decisions, but uncannily once again so do Arsenal

He hasn't actually been banned yet.

You can just see the FA invoking some obscure rule - like the matter not being brought to their attention in time - which sees him get off scott free.

Once this has hit the media and the FA have been made aware of it I can't see how they can't punish him. The ref didn't see it, so that useless rule is irrelevant at least.

Not sure how this would be justice in any way for Wigan, Chelsea failing to win today really won't affect them.
It obviously won't be any justice for Wigan, but at least it will be deserved blow for Chelsea and a bit of justice for us, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Arsenal in the top 4 race.

Has Ivanovic suddenly become Siguardsson managed by the world class triangle maker Brendan Rodgers ? He must be with all the people happy he will be out for our FA cup game.
