Match ratings vs Swansea

Lloris - 7 (didn't have anything to save but 2 great decisions to come out)

Walker - 7 (Did well today and unlucky not to score)
Gallas - 8 (Excellent performance from Gallas)
Vertonghen - 7.5 (His overall performance was a 7 but gets a 0.5 for the goal)
Naughton - 7.5 (He was rock solid today and saved our asses when one of their players was in)

Lennon - 6.5 (Did pretty well but his final ball was off today)
Sandro - 8 (excellent as usual)
Dembele - 7.5 (very good performance again)
Dempsey - 6.5 (first half he was a 7 and played well but he was invisible second half but did work hard)

Adebayor - 7 (Worked very hard and put in a good shift)
Defoe - 6 (not his day today)

Subs
Townsend - 6.5 (he was good when he came on minus the bit where he decided to go inside rather than go on the outside)
Sigurddson - 7 (fed Defoe with 2 lovely through balls and worked his socks off. He warrants a start in 1 or 2 of the christmas period games)
Parker - N/A - What a reception he got.

Gallas 8
Vertonghen 8.5
Naughton 7.5
Lennon 7.5
Sandro 8
Dembele 8
Dempsey 7
Ade 7.5
Defoe 5

Special mention for Sigurdsson, did really well in the time he was on today.

Lloris - 7. Capable, calm, composed. Run and punch at the end saved us.

Walker - 6.5. Solid, but guilty of over-committing to a few challenges and giving away possession with a few careless inside balls to Lennon. He'll get better at it, though.
Gallas - 7.5. Composed and reliable. Didn't let anything get past him, and handled Michu well.
Vertonghen - 8. Same as Gallas, + 0.5 for the goal.
Naughton - 7.75 - A genuinely excellent performance from young Naughton. Snuffed out Nathan Dyer brilliantly, kept possession well and made some fine interceptions.

Lennon - 6.5. Solid, but quiet.
Sandro - 7.5. Business as usual.
Dembele - 6.5. Composed, and reliable with the ball at his feet. Did give it away a few times, though.
Dempsey - 6.5. Tireless runner, and made a couple of great passes.

Ade - 6.5. Good effort, but still looking ineffective.
Defoe - 6.5. See above.

Subs -

Townsend - 6.5. Looked dangerous running at Swansea's back-pedalling defenders, and won a fair few free-kicks in the process. Should have scored against Tremmel when clean through, but a good performance nonetheless.
Sigurdsson - 7. Glorious passes through to Defoe. Agree with Kingdawson, should definitely start a couple of the Christmas fixtures.
Parker - N/A. Glad he's back.

AVB - 7. His decision to move Jan back to CB and put Naughton out wide was a good one, and he made effective substitutions in bringing on Gylfi and Andros when he did.

Id go with this. Only Naughton gets a 7 from me. Solid but going forward was a bit hit and miss, mostly miss.

Good decision from AVB to put him up v Dyer, think Verts may have struggled.

Bit harsh that score, surely AVB deserves an 8?...Swansea came to defend and try and nick a goal. Our performance was very disciplined, very hard-working. Can't see what more the manager could have done...

Lloris 7.5 - no saves but quick off his line again and probably saved a goal at the end

Walker 5.5 - good shot, crap shot. Some poor passes and some weak attempts at a tackle
Gallas 7 - strong
Vertonghen 8 - solid, great finish
Naughton 6 - redeemed himself with a vital interception late on, otherwise very ehhhh

Lennon 5.5 - ran fast, provided nothing
Sandro 8 - beast
Dembele 7.5 - Not quite up to his best yet but a good game
Dempsey 6.5 - fairly quiet, some decent link up in the 1st half

Defoe 6 - wasteful but always a threat
Ade 6 - did ok, pressed well

Sigurdsson 7 - two great through balls, good cameo
Townsend 6.5 - kept it well, ran at players, should've scored

Lloris - 7 - No real saves to make but quick off his line to stop the chances coming

Walker - 7 - Taking all the corners now which hopefully means he's practising his delivery, which has been a weak aspect of his game up to now. Got an assist for the goal with one and had one brilliantly struck shot that was unlucky not to go in, but also missed a very good chance when it was still 0-0. Part of a very solid defence.

Gallas - 7 - Was annoyed at AVB for going with him over Caulker but he did a good job today

Vertonghen - 8 - Solid and comfortable back in his natural CB role, and what I can only describe as an instinctive, striker's finish for the goal. Centre-backs with his level of technique are rare and he has the potential to be the best defender in the country IMO.

Naughton - 7 - Very solid performance up against Dyer, crossing was a bit dodgy though.

Lennon - 7 - Looked lively

Sandro - 8 - Swansea are a very good passing side, but he kept the pressure on for 90 minutes and made it difficult for them

Dembele - 8 - Also did a good job of pressing and his driving runs were very good.

Dempsey - 6 - Hard work, didn't really offer anything exciting though

Adebayor - 6 - Also worked very hard but his technique is still a bit rusty

Defoe - 5 - Eager, and good movement, but missed some good chances

Subs:

Sigurdsson - 8 - Some excellent passes. I really think we should use him more than we do as we've often lacked that creativity in the final third this season since Van Der Vaart left and he is the closest player we have that can deliver that kind of killer ball.

Townsend - 7 - Some dangerous running, was surprised to see him on the right but he did well

Parker - N/A - Good to see him back

AVB - 9 - Hats off to the guy, excellent work from him today. Vertonghen had spoke earlier in the week about not feeling he was agile enough to accurately deal with the fastest, trickiest wingers of the game at full-back, so the decision to move him into the middle and play Naughton at LB was a very good one. The substitutions were correct, and effective, especially the decision to have Townsend on the right wing which I felt worked particularly well. Crucially, he also resisted the temptation to bring on Parker too early, as we had been bossing the game and he has made the mistake far too many times this season of letting go of the initiative by bringing on defensive players too early to protect a narrow lead. Only thing I'd have changed today were that I didn't feel Caulker deserved to be dropped but Gallas did well. Most importantly, this was an organised team performance from a team obviously hungry to prove a point after the Everton game - the team kept focused, composed and didn't let their heads drop despite Swansea defending extremely well. Well done Andre.

Good performance from Sandro and Dembele in midfield. They were fantastic.

I wish we were more direct when we attack.

LLoris 8 Clean sheet

Walker 7 Fine

Gallas 7 No problem for him today, solid

Vertonghen 7 Good goal, a couple of bad passes

Naughton 7 Good at the back but struggles going forward as he is a right sided player

Sandro 8 Fantastic

Dembele 8 Strong

Dempsey 6 Not a lot

Lennon 6 No end product

Defoe 6 No service and missed a good chance second half. Good movement.

Adebayor 7 Hold the ball well and worked hard.

Didn't see the game but good result. Will do my ratings later.

Wait, why are you doing ratings if you haven't seen the game?

Not sure if serious..

Was a good game, Swansea were decent, didn't offer too much going forward but what they did offer was dealt with comfortably by the back four. Sandro was a beast. Lennon played well. No other real creativity in our starting eleven. In fact pretty much every chance we had in the first half was down to a Swansea player passing to us rather then us breaking them down.

But three points are three points, get the maximum and take fourth spot so is a good result.

COYS.
