January transfer rumour thread

Isnt anyone else concerned about the amount of short-term problems which we're building up in key positions?:

Adebayor - loan
Saha (potentially) - loan
Freidel - 18 months left in him?
Cudicini - probably off the in summer or retiring soon
Gomes - wants out
Gallas - limited time left
King - limited time left

If we replace Pav with Saha on loan, we're leaving ourselves massive amounts of work to do at CB, GK and CF over the next 6-18 months...

Just spoken to @louissaha08. He is waiting to see what will happen regarding a move to Tottenham on loan #efc #thfc

If someone's prepared to spend money on Pav then it'd be a very shrewd move imo. Squad improved short term with some money coming in and able to fully focus on getting a new striker in the summer. Of course it depends on Saha being fit which is a big if but this could be a very good move imo.

Not to mention he's scored 2 goals in 20 games this season.

Don't see Saha or Rodallega as particularly good signings. Stop gaps maybe, but why are we always in stop gap positions? If it was someone like Dembele at Fulham I could understand it more, though his goal record isn't good (either!) he definately has shown more ability that the other two (over recent times).

CB shouldn't be too bad, we have bassong, kaboul, dawson, Caulker, four is decent, though possibly want another that can cover right/left back.

The striker problem is tricky, we've had it for the past few transfer windows, hope ade is sorted out as a perm deal and we get a new striker in the summer, though that might push defoe further down the pecking order...

Goalkeeper is the shiz though, need to sign at least one in the summer, and maybe slowly integrate him into the first team.

Rodallega.

Ive never been a fan. Ive always argued against those who suggest him as a good buy - scorer of great goals not great goal scorer kind of thing, MOTD highlights reel special, not actually prolific enough.

But for a few reasons Im seeing sense in this. Desperation perhaps!
- He isnt Pavlyuchenko. He is more mobile and works harder.
- He plays often on the right of the front 3 at Wigan, possible squad cover?
- Set piece specialist
- Scores most of his goals from range

All things that (as a replacement to Pav) look like pluses to me.

Aside from the fact he is out of contract in the summer and so would likely come in for less than we sell Pav

I was suggesting him back in the summer and I remember you weren't keen. Mostly I like the fact that he can hold the ball up and play from the right. He normally scores a few but he's had a poor return this year. I've gone a bit cool on him and if I had to choose I would rather take a punt on Victor Moses.

That said it looks like we've gone in for Saha which I'm fairly happy with as he's a decent back-up for Adebayor. Again though his goalscoring form has been poor this year and he'd have to improve significantly to get into the first team.

Saha's looked a decent player when he's played, think it would be a decent signing on loan. We should be able to keep him well rested as Ade is no.1 choice so Saha would be occasional starter and sub. As long as it's not to replace Defoe that is, he should be a pav replacement.

After all we're really not going to be signing any world beaters in jan and this window inparticular, no one seems to be moving. He's about as a high a level player as we could get.

Saha is/was a player i rated highly, that was up until this season. He has been poor, a shadow of his former self.
Maybe just a temporary loss of form or it could be his age has finally caught up with him.

If he could find his form of a few years ago and stay fit (big if's) then he would be an excellent signing.

Indeed. Worries me we look likely to have Gio here for another dead period of time. As for Pav, well he does need to go, but if it means Saha replacing him then I'd keep him here just in case.

Adebayor - showing us what we need, what we have missed, if Harry can get him in, it's a bonus, if not, we have the next months to be looking at a plaeyr to replace him in the summer, hopefully we go back for Remy in the summer.

Saha - just a loan, we still have Defoe and I'm sure we'll be bringing in a striker in the summer.

Friedel - still has that experience, definitely has 2 or 3 more seasons left in him in my honest opinion, can quite easily get in a younger goalkeeper in within those years, maybe even Adler on a free in the summer! If not, maybe Krul who we are linked with or Ter Stegen from Gladbach!

Cudicini and Gomes - Carlo has been a great servent, been great in some games and for a free, the best second goalkeeper in the league I'd say, just shows how much of a shrewd buyer Harry is, make some money on Gomes, why not!

Gallas - I think he'll go in the summer anyway, Caulker is back in the summer.

King - Definitely still has games left in him for a year or two, will last longer at the club than Gallas.

anyone got a good idea of this Rodallega bloke? Haven't really seen him play, would he be good for us?

He doesn't seem to score much but he always seems to have good industry whenever I see him play... Doesn't really sound like what we need does it? Still, there's always the arguement about what he might do with better service. He's got a better touch than Pav, that's for sure!

Pav out (sold), Saha in (loan) would be good business imho.

It gives Levy some breathing space to find a permanent signing for the summer and certainly doesn't weaken the squad now... or disrupt it, which is always a danger with January signings. Hopefully Saha would just be unused cover for Ade, with maybe the odd late appearance from the bench. I would certainly feel more optimistic with him coming on than Pav.

Or maybe everything's sorted out with Adler+Vertonghen+Remy coming in in the summer.

Am not doubting the quality of some of the players, but come June we might only have Defoe and VdV as CFs so need to sign two whilst also getting in a GK, getting in at least one CB, hopefully cover for Lennon......would make it a bloody busy window....particularly when our maanger might walk out as well!!!!!

I agree, but if we finish 3rd or even higher, I'm sure we'd get the money and the ability to attract more talent. Harry walking may even be a blessing in disguise regarding who we go for. I mean someone is much more likely to work for Mourinho for example than Harry I imagine?
