GHod bless Britain

I take it you didnt vote for David Cameron then. Very religious and a regular at church.

Oh and I think the thread title should be edited. Not all of the regulars have checked in to give us a fresh opinion on their political stance, maybe they dont realise its another chance.

No I didn't, I voted for my local MP whose party is unfortunately represented by someone who believes it's politically expedient to go to church.

Cameron's redeemed himself on gay rights issues though - suggests to me that he's no member of any major religion I recognise.

Exactly. Doesn't seem to concerned about tinkling off the church. He did say this was a nation founded on Christian principles, hello..... Church of England?? But he ain't a bible basher weirdo like Blair who prayed with Bush whilst fabricating evidence to scare us into a war we should never have been near and which set this country back 50 years in terms of our global reputation. More stories of rendition every day, shameful.

Oops irony alert...

Interesting isn't it, in that Britain and America share so many cultural similarities, but are also fundamentally different in so many ways. Saw an interview last month. Can't remember who, but the argument was made that America has already shown that a black man can be elected as president, went on to say that it was only a matter of time until a woman was elected as president, but confidently asserted that an atheist would never be elected as president.

I think that was a survey by the University of Minnesota - made for very scary reading.

Also quite scary (from the same study IIRC):
This group does not at all agree with my vision of American society...

  • Atheist: 39.6%
    Muslims: 26.3%
    Homosexuals: 22.6%
    Hispanics: 20%
    Conservative Christians: 13.5%
    Recent Immigrants: 12.5%
    Jews: 7.6%

I would disapprove if my child wanted to marry a member of this group....

  • Atheist: 47.6%
    Muslim: 33.5%
    African-American 27.2%
    Asian-Americans: 18.5%
    Hispanics: 18.5%
    Jews: 11.8%
    Conservative Christians: 6.9%
    Whites: 2.3%

From Dawkins' GHod delusion:

A Gallup poll taken in 1999 asked Americans whether they would vote for an otherwise well-qualified person who was a woman (95 per cent would), Roman Catholic (94 per cent would), Jew (92 per cent), black (92 per cent), Mormon (79 per cent), homosexual (79 per cent) or atheist (49 per cent).

So Mittens, without an absolutely monumental fudgeup by the EU (very possible to be fair) or Obama should be screwed. But 10 years ago (and I doubt in that time opinions have changed much), over half disapproved of an atheist candidate.

You mean he gave the opinion he thought he had to give in order to stay popular and get votes.

And Cameron IS every bit as religious as Blair. Why ask me for evidence? You can access google for yourself. Cameron is more public about his church going than Blair was at the same stage.

Only if they were kissing Bush's arse, and blair was worse then Thatcher was with Raygun.

Believe that if you want to. Blair would be the last person who you would have thought would make that decision but he felt he had to. So if he felt like that it's obvious that most would have made the same decision. It's easy to say no when the decision isn't yours.

I do believe that, he lied to go alongwith Bush.

tickle my balls with a feather.

But it took the war to happen to realise what the truth was. No one really knew what was going on in Iraq.

I read a comment somewhere that Blair had said he couldnt live with himself if he had said no and a major disaster happened because of it.

Of course no one wants any sort of war, being against war is normal. I expect people sitting at home to think 'no', but I dont expect them to think that people in charge of the country have the same luxury. Very narrow minded. Think of what Saddam was doing to his own people, that was enough reason alone to go in there. "But it wasnt our business" - ok then lets let a whole nation of people suffer and die, were too far away to care.

Dude that is very naive. Firstly a lot of people knew there were no wmds in Iraq, such as the un inspectors sent in to investigate, other members if NATO etc. hell even us Brits and the Americans were saying so less than two years prior to the invasion, there are plenty of reports and speeches out there from key players such as Colin Powell who were saying that thanks to the embargo there was no chance of Iraq getting there hands on any wmds. I can't be bothered to find links, but they are easily found if you look for them.

Saddam Hussein was an evil fudger but even he didn't manage to do the damage to his country that we did. By 2007 something crazy like 700,000 Iraqis had died, who knows by now that figure is probably much nearer a million. That's not even taking into account us and uk deaths!

Didn't the Hutton inquiry conclusively prove that there was a concerted effort to 'sex up' the dossier for war? What is the difference between that and an outright lie??!

Like I said yeah saddam was evil, but so is Mugabe, the military junta in Burma etc, so why don't we go in and take them out....oh right, I forgot, no oil!

Because he's not a hypocritical c unt

Are you on crack? The dodgy dossier was a fabrication to justify the war. The conservatives didn't want war but went along with it based on the 45 min claim. You wanna rip me for being an ideologue but you're the worst kind. Someone who doesn't realise they're utterly deluded.

You go to war on facts. No WMD were found. Who's next? Iran? China? Lol, you've really shown yourself up for the blatant ideologue you are. Even my card carrying labour friends don't defend Bliar and his war. A bike man who introduced spin and personality politics into Britain. fudging scum of the earth. Loved the country so much he didn't dare show his face here in the past 5 years. Now run along and don't pay your taxes like a good champagne socialist.

I am sorry but that is living in dreamland, a elected leader of this Country took us into a illegal war on a LIE. He can increase taxes, make laws and anything else he was elected to do, but to take us to war just because he was arse kissing to Bush was scandalous. The loss of life is down to him and he has blood on his hands and i hope that when he does pass over his GHod turns his back on him.
