FOBTs

Wiki says:

Roulette is roulette whether a table is involved or not so my point still stands. I,personally, would rather go and play on a table as opposed to a machine surrounded by tacos

The workings underneath aren't roulette though. After you lose it decides which slot the ball has landed in for instance, and it ups the chance that the ball lands in the slot next to you choose. People get drawn in by these near misses that arent real.

whatever the report says these terminals are here to stay as they are a lucrative form of Income for the bookmakers. At the moment there is a limit of £100 a spin, no doubt this will be increased in the future.

So you have more chance in winning in a casino? I tend not too think too much about the science behind it all as it's boring. All I was saying was I would rather go and play on a table whilst drinking a nice JD than stand in a stuffy old bookies pumping a machine.

I can fully understand having a spontaneous score or something whilst going in and placing a bet but people that stand there doing their gonad*s in these machine doesn't register with me to be honest. I don't see how you'd get more of a buzz winning out of a machine as opposed to a table in a casino. Each to their own

You have the same odds. But people are taken in physiologically by the fake results. Look at roy's initial post and you see him talking about 'next doors' as if he actually believed he was playing a real roulette game. Instead he was playing a game that artificially creates near misses when he loses to encourage him to play more.

Listening to you lot is funny. Do continue....[/QUOTE

Being someone in the know do you think they will allow maximum per spin to go above £100? You must see the increases traffic. How much are the bookies taking as a % on the terminals?

thats why there are so many bookies, because there is a limit of 4 fobt machines per bookies.

Down at Waltham X Jennings have opened anther bookies next door to their original one under a different company so that they can have 8 FOBT in close proximity of eachother and to get around the 4 terminal per shop limit.

The bookies really are the scum of the Earth and people in my opinion only see the surface of the badness they cause in society.

I really do feel for the way society is heading. You can't even watch a football game these days or flick through channels past 11pm without coming across a betting advert or roulette table.

I use the Jennings and better bet in WX quite often. Where are you from spursman?

Cheshunt. If you are the Roy who used to work (not sure if you still do) at William Hill at flamstead end then I've spoken to you a few times. I go to that new bookies on the corner now though near Boswells. They offer me sandwiches while I lose my money!

Yeah it's me although I work in a few different shops but Flamstead End quite a bit. I use Baileys a bit too. Next time your in say hi mate!

Not easy. Licences etc plus a fair sized bankroll to see you through the first couple of years.

This. I'm sure it's the same as casinos where you have to have an amount of cash on deposit in order to cover any losses.

Equally, the security costs would be astronomical for a startup.

I work for Ladbrokes and they pay my wages :)

I work for Hills and I'm trying to get out. It's always been the same I know but with the FOBTS destroying lives I'm no longer happy with my wages being paid for in this way. I'm trying to get out of the industry.

I can understand where you are coming from to a certain extent, but, people have to be responsible for their own actions. Similarly we have alcoholics but we cant stop peoples enjoyment of a few beers on a night out because some cannot control themselves. The FOBT's are the future and we are told to push them relentlessly.

I've had endless discussions on so many forums on the same subject. The industry doesn't do enough to help problem gamblers and, whilst the onus is on the individual, the industry exploit customers more than you might realise. Maybe an argument for another day.
