Fans last night

They don't want to sing because there's nothing to motivate them to sing. The same reason 10s of thousands of them didn't buy tickets last night.

Put on some decent football against some decent teams and people will want to sing again - making people move from their regular seats won't.

I might have this wrong but weren't you one of the main backers of AVBs time at the club?

Artificial?

What utter, ignorant nonsense!

It's support.

That's all.

Nothing ****ing artificial about it.

With "fans" like you, no wonder the support at the Lane has turned to ****.
Mate... I think you miss the point slightly.... He is hardly ever actually at the Lane.

Erm.............because good football won't stir the majority into song. But others singing sometimes will.

And in the meanwhile, at least we'll have 1000 fans creating a bit of atmosphere.

It's not rocket science.

The Erm was for the maths fail ;)

So what stirred tens of thousands into song after terracing and before 1882?

But it will still just be 1,000 fans singing. Not a noisy stadium by any stretch of the imagination.

Now, give 10,000 fans good reason to sing and then you've got an atmosphere to be proud of.

You honestly don't see anything silly about a singing club for grown men? It's like package holidays - they're not crap because of what they are or do, they're just crap because they're organised in advance and try to cajole a group of independently minded adults to all do the same thing.

Thank GHod you rarely actually go to a game!

Yet we had a good atmosphere without terraces and without "groups of like-minded people who all want to sing together gathering in a particular place to do so"

Does that last bit sound better than "Glee club"? It's pretty much the same thing.

It's clearly possible to have a good atmosphere without this so I'd really rather we didn't. (Although I would like terraces back).

We had a good atmosphere by English standards six years and more ago. But even that wasn't a patch on the good continental standard, where fans sing throughout the game (which is what 1882 do). And now our atmosphere is consistently one of the very worst in England. In other words, the worst of the worst.

And it's not going to go back to how it was, however much you might wish it. Not unless specific action is taken to counter it. That's all 1882 is. Positive action to address a problem that is damaging our club.

I hope it does have a positive effect on the atmosphere - would be a shame to make such fools of our fans for nothing.

****'s sake, mate, you really are being obtuse about this.

There is no "glee club". Stop saying that there is. You're only making an **** of yourself by perpetuating your own fabrication.

Once again - 1882 is, in essence, nothing more than an area of the stadium reserved for those who want to sing and be surrounded by others who want to sing. And there is a need for it because there are too many old or just plain grumpy fans going to games now who do not want to sing. And because of season ticket waiting lists and designated seats, those who do want to sing have no way of getting together other than if a specific area is set aside for them. There are no longer the standing terraces which provided that exact service back in the day.

Mate - it's not even 'reserved'. It's just a nod and a wink.... A bit like how in the old days you'd say to your mates from school/work/the pub 'I'll see you at the right side of the Park Lane over near the cage'.

So singing and getting behind the team equates to 'making a fool of yourself'.... I really think you should get yourself to one of the games where 1882 are in attendance and then pass judgement again Scara.

I have been - last ITV4 Cup match I went to was Maribor.

They were on the shelf and I was in the Park Lane - could hear them a bit from where I was.

I've got no issue with what they do at the match, I quite enjoy it. It's the organising of a singing area I don't like.

It's like an adult putting their own name on their Spurs kit.

Not them in particular, just that kind of club.

I suspect their fans are rightly proud they told him where to stick it.

Interesting that you should see West Ham fans as a role model.

Why not Dortmund fans? They're organised. Really organised. And they have an area of their stadium that is set aside for those fans who want to create a great atmosphere.

Do other fans laugh at them?

It doesn't make a fool of our fans.

You're the only one on this thread who thinks it does.

And since you probably go to fewer games than most others who have commented, why should you even care?

But it is impossible for a group, like that to get together those days without organising it. It's not like the old days where you could just naturally move to/away from that part of the terrace.

if people want to get together and sing that's fine, get on with it, enjoy yourselves

1882 seem to have this sorted, I dont think any more needs to be done and it's certainly not something the club should be involved with, that would be down there with arsenal and their flags and hymns

id be quite into an 1882 like section where I can sit with other like minded curmudgeons and whinge about misplaced passes and bad defending

The early stages of cup games were £20, this year its £25

Cheers thought so, did try and look up but others in my group appeared to book last seasons group stage games. If we are in europa next season will be interesting to see the prices.
