Coronavirus

Hanrooster has admitted he broke social distancing rules. Boris now considers the matter closed. I’ve said before, I admire the gonad*s of the tories. Literally do whatever the fudge they want even it breaks rules and don’t ever apologise and the public at large seem to be ok with it. Whereas Labour are the party that constantly apologises for everything, even when they shouldn’t apologise. The tories are essentially the football team that is cynical, bullies the refs and does whatever it takes to win, Labour are the nice, soft team who won’t do what it takes and just accept it when they get screwed over.

Though I am not disagreeing with everything in your post. The Tories used to resign for sleaze in the 90s, loads did. Then bliar came along and murdered a load of Iraqis on a lie without so much of hint of am apology.

The Tories took that idea and ran with it.

I'm not sure. He still serves a human sheild role for Boris at the moment.

The biggest pressure may come from his wife. The disintegration of their marriage is going to be drip-fed on the front pages for weeks until he resigns.

Mind you, he’s such a snivelling little brick that probably means nothing to him.

I think they take their lead more from Trump, and Bolsonaro. We’ve got a government operating under a right-wing populist playbook.

We can see what happened in the US, though, and it’s getting pretty ugly for Bolsonaro in Brazil.

The majority of people tend to see through the lies, corruption and culture wars in the end.

If you think this govt is right wing then I don't think you've been paying attention.

They're spending our money like nobody ever has before and their intrusion into our lives is something Stalin would be proud of.

He should go really, I'm surprised Boris doesn't get rid of him either - you can afford some bad press and stories but the amount of sleaze and favours for mates is getting ridiculous. He's not even a talented minister who made a bad decision - he's not someone that people think of as smart at all. Must be someone with more brainpower who can do the role a lot better.

Ha, the closer you are to poverty, the more left wing the arrangements are that they want to apply to you.

Accusations you could just as easily level at Hitler - and I don't think anyone has him down as having been left wing.

Technically he was a fascist and had pretty much nothing to do with what anyone would recognise as right wing politics.

There are two axes though. The equality to inequality spectrum (right and left wing), and the pro-state to anti state one. Fascism is right wing and pro-state, whereas libertarianism is right wing and anti-state. Similarly left wing and pro-state is socialism, whereas left wing and anti-state is anarchism.

The Hegelian/Reaganite/Thatcherite right wing was a fairly new concept from the late 70s, although it does draw on classical liberalism/Adam Smith. The right wing had always really been associated with pro-state until then

Yet at the last local elections, which are usually used as an excuse for the electorate to kick the government the Conservatives increased their vote share.

The tories are well past right-wing. That conservative train left the station years ago.

Conservatives are thieving bastards. And a large section of labour think white people are the route of all evil and want to tear the whole system down.

The other parties are basically non existent in england.

All one big joke. But nobody's laughing.

Anyway back to covid. Looking like the areas that peaked early with the indian variant are now falling. Which is good news. Hopefully means this will be more of a ripple than a wave.

You were right.

Blair did a terrible thing with Iraq but it's a stretch to claim he's responsible for the lack of accountability among the current bunch of goons in government. They are simply cynical, arrogant and quite frankly prepared to mug off people who keep voting for them.

.

A large section of Labour are WHITE folk. Another large section are moderate non white folk like me who just want to not face racism on the streets, at work or from institutions, but have nothing against white folk in particular. And then you have a few nutters and opportunists. The culture warring Tory right have cynically misrepresented anyone who doesn't wave a union jack or doesn't slavishly think iBrexit is a good thing as anti white and anti British. It's flimflam.
