Benjamin Stambouli - Sold to PSG

My impression is also that he's one for a double pivot and comparable to Vieira's postition. People think Vieira was a defensive midfielder though, and he really wasn't. It was Petit who was the sitting midfielder at Arsenal, Deschamps at France. Vieira was the one who went forward the most.

True but he was still primarily a defensive midfielder

Was you both not talking about him? You calling him a DM and rosenthal describing him as a b2b?

What I have always said was that every report on the lad likened him to a Vieira type player. The question then arose whether Vieira was a DM; Rosenthal does not think so but to my mind he was - shielding the defence was his primary responsibility - together with Petit - but then he was obviously unparalleled in his ability to move forward at the right time. But he was still a DM, first and foremost....

I would suspect Alli may be something similar

Isn't the point of a double pivot to have 2 players who can both attack and defend and are in effect interchangeable.

Yeah I agree but we seem to have an issue with our players attacking from that position.... Hence why people want a specialist holder/defensive midfielder which I personally think would be to our detriment

Blanc has confirmed the deal

http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2015/benjamin-stambouli-completes-psg-move/?

Laurent Blanc confirmed the arrival of Benjamin Stambouli last night and even went as far to say that the Frenchman might play a part in Les Parisiens’ next friendly match against Fiorentina.

The player completed his medical in New York yesterday before signing a 5 year contract. The deal is believed to be worth between €8m and €10m.

Plus Fredericks to QPR for a reported £2m? I am looking forward to the figures on the totaliser.

The amount of deadwood which we're shifting this window, and the speed which we're doing it at, is unbelieveable for Spurs!! Usually we hang on til the end of the window!

Paulinho, Capoue, Kaboul gone....now Stambouli and it seems Ade might be wanted by Dim Sherwood at Villa......

So that's the best part of 200k a week off the wage bill? Effectively £10m a year? At last, now we can buy Messi!

We needed to strip out the decent but not exceptional players, and replace them with one or two key players. But will we be able to sign CL level players? We have the cash but not the kudos of manu etc. I suspect that once other CL teams have made their key signings we'll make our move.

So I'm confused you say a double pivot then a defensive midfielder. Double pivot seems to be a stupid modern day term for having 2 box to box midfielders anyway but if we have one defensive and one attacking midfielder then isn't that just a stock midfield 2?

We don't have any players capable of playing a 'double pivot' really. Bentaleb doesn't track runners and doesn't seem anything special going forwards. Mason is OK at time up ahead but also can't track runners and his passing is Riquelme like one week followed by school kid the week after (or even both in the same game sometimes)

If true, I'm a little it sad to see him go. Had high hopes for the boy. But with Trippier, Walker, Dier and Yedlin also in the race, I guess we need to make some decisions.
