Yeah that is something I hadn't taken in to consideration - would it not have been wise to include Kane on the bench in that case though?

Nah, Kane is important, better playing with 10 men today than risking him, Son can play there if needs be. Plus, you shouldn't need a forward to beat a team like villa.

I'd say the Occam's razor answer is he isn't match fit and had done an hour.

Match fit but definitely hit enough. His touch was unusually clumsy today - there's no reason for that given that he'll have been training etc recently. He hasn't just come back from injury.

I've always supported him, but just don't think he plays in a way that suits us - he always plays with his back to goal and coming short to hold the ball up. We need someone who can run in behind defences; whether he leaves or not, I do think we need a more appropriate back-up to Kane

I think that it is a confidence thing.

Well how is he ever going to get confidence if he's not getting himself into the box? I'd be much happier if he was making runs in the box and missing a load of chances, because from his time in Holland albeit a weaker league it looks like he can finish. But he's not even giving himself the chance to get goals....

It's a cliche but a couple of balls bouncing off his arse and into the net would do him the world of good.

I agree on him making the runs. Maybe it is something that can be worked on in training, get him to forget dropping deep and pulling wide for a bit and just concentrate on getting into the six yard box.
