Shame. Would have wanted him to get a chance at home vs one of Hull or Burnley...though there are really no easy games in the PL i guess..

He was the same player we bought, remember when he played against us? he was a clown then and continued to be during his time here, a accident waiting to happen.

i think Kane doesn't have a burst of speed or a sudden change of direction. I think the defenders have all figured out that they can just smother him out of the game. doesn't help when he starts so deep in midfield these days where its so crowded.

Also the reason we lost to PSV

He played very well for them and for us had some amazing games

But I also remember the game he saved a pen and conceded one straight from it

But he and averaged a goal a game so far hasn't he???
I agree with the logic about him not playing deep as that's a problem
But he is far from found out IMO

Yesterday the smothered him but they had two mobile centre backs play as well as they have for their clubs and he dropped a gonad* by coming deep for me which made it even harder for him and us

That was one of his biggest problems, you never knew what you were going to get from him. Some great saves but shocking blunders ( sadly the blunders happened far more often). I remember the goal he conceded at home against Madrid and the look on the faces of the defenders told the story, they had lost all faith in him.

I disagree with you a bit here. Kane dropping back into the midfield at times should help us to do one of two things.

1. Overload the opposition in this area, thus helping us to retain possession of the ball and transition into the opponents half.
2. Pull at least one of the opposition's centre halves out of possession as they track him. This should create space in behind Kane that the likes of Alli and Son can exploit. I thought one of our problems yesterday was that neither Alli nor Son were really looking ot make those runs in behind. Man Utd were playing quite high up the pitch and pressing our defence in possession of the ball even in our own third of the pitch. This would naturally have either created an extremely stretched Man Utd team, offering lots of space to play between their pressing players and their defence, or offered lots of space in behind the Man Utd defence (from what I saw it was typically the latter). The problem was that we showed no real desire to exploit that space in behind them.

When Kane came deep vs United they left him

They did press slightly more forward but they just let him from what I saw as just stuck to their tactics

The space was wide but as their was no one central to feed it was wasted

The Drogba one that he palmed backwards into the air so that it slowly, steadily dropped into goal (at the Bridge in 2010-2011, I think) was another one where the defenders all just looked at him with simultaneous anger and resignation.

However...for every moment like that, there was one of his superhuman, *impossible* saves that kept us in games. The best of which came in the Danny Rose game against Arsenal - his saves from Judas' header and Van Persie's freekick were impossibly good. For all *those* moments, I won't forget Gomes - ultimately, he helped define the early Redknapp era (along with Cudicini, who did a commendably reliable job when Gomes got too shaky), and for that he deserves a lot of credit.

I like the way our keepers have progressed from about the time Gomes came in - we had Gomes as our number 1, who could be equally brilliant or farcical, then (ignoring Cudicini) we had Friedel, who was a good, steady goalie but couldn't really pull out any wonder saves or exceptional moments. And now, finally, we have Hugo, who is by turns brilliant and remarkably consistent - the best of both worlds.
 
We should use Son up top a bit more - I thought that on Sunday, given Harry wasnt doing anything, it was worth trying dropping Kane deeper and play Son as a out and out CF for a while. At least it would have given their CBs a different challenge
