I guess he was probably on a list. Not first choice, others came and went, and suddenly he was the viable option. But lower on the list, Poch probably didn't do enough due diligence.
One of those committee things, where when the shi1 hits the fan no one's responsible.

I'll try and find the article. It said that we had registered an interest early in the summer, as part of playing targets and clubs off against each other.

This is the problem here, sissoko doesn't need to get his brick together because to date he hasn't done a lot wrong and has been performing pretty much at his level.

That's the issue - he's a bit better than average player that our scouting team/Poch have imo made a monumental mistake on. It seems everyone got fooled by some lung busting runs in the euros that ultimately came to nothing.

It would have been a mistake at 12m but to think we spent 30m should cause everyone involved in that deal huge huge embarrassment.

Arguably the worse deal in the history of the club.

Then it begs the question who fudged up this summer. I refuse to believe £30m fee - it just can't be!

Poch wanted Wanyama OK tried and tested in EPL that was a good buy!
I don't get Sissoko unless it was a free on a pay as you play deal.

If you are going to slate the Sissoko buy its only fair to add the Janssen deal in as well.

The aim with limited funds has to be to strengthen the squad, buy players that have at least the potential to be better than what we already have, in those 2 we have spent nearly £50m and not got any stronger.

My views on Janssen are well documented.
He is a tryer, I'll give him that!
Add missing out on Dembele and I would be looking to giving out a well aimed P45
 
Well done Pochettino for knocking a player's confidence even more by slating him to the media. Why not single out Janssen as well? He hasn't exactly set the pitch alight, as he?

Yep agree.

I got a bit of stick for suggesting it was nearly November and he hadnt shown any signs of being a decent signing, well another month goes by and for me he doesnt really look any better.
Not getting Dembele last Jan when he was in the shopping basket was a very bad decision. Yes its only the SPL, but he still looks the better option.

I got beaten with same same stick.

We should change the club motto to "bonum et veniet tempus daret sibi". Very loosely translated "give him time and he will come good".
 
i still don't understand this policy the club has of selling players and then buying inferior or not much better type of player, we sold Chadli for £13 mill and then buy Sissoko for £30,one was a proven type of player when can come on from the bench and had the ability to score goals and create something.... the other an ok type of player who played well in the Euros but not exactly a game changer who cost £17 mill more. That £30 mill we've spent could have got us a two proven internationals or one player we've been crying out for ages ,a dominant midfield player that actually score goals and be a presence on the pitch.

This! Dont sell squad players and replace them with the same level or below squad players that cost more money!

There's quite a difference between signing a 22 year old from Holland and a 27 year old with years of PL experience.

Sissoko was expected to make a more immediate impact. That expectation was fair. It was pointed out to me repeatedly when I was against signing him that he had PL experience and could slot right in.

We obviously do not have a policy of selling players and then buying inferior players. All clubs have misses in the transfer market. That doesn't make it a policy.
