Next England Manager Thread

You had me up to the Barkley and grealish bit.
The rest totally agree.
I think Sam might surprise a few people, steely, pragmatic but with some flashes of good football.
IF, and it's a big if, he's allowed to do it his way and he doesn't see it as having reached the pinnacle of his career and rest on his laurels, then as a Scotsman I can honestly say he's the first England many since hoddle that scares me.

But thats the root of the problem, unless we give young English players a chance they'll never get better

A lot of the young English players don't help themselves by making big money moves before they are ready. They lose the key formative years of learning. Some are good enough to still have decent careers, but you have to wonder if they'd have developed into better players if they had stayed with the clubs that developed them a bit longer.

Pards?

also, I mentioned him in jest last night but Brendan Rodgers might be appealing to the FA, he's far too stupid to read the nudge and winks of agents so won't have got his hands dirty

Who would want this job? Ok the money is great, but is it really worth the aggro you get from the press regardless of whether it is the manager's fault or not? Realistically, our aim for the next tournament should be last 16 or last 8, which won't be good enough in the media's eyes. You can now add entrapment to the lovely list of things the next manager has to now deal with.

For me there's 4 options:

1) Klinsmann and Howe (in and Klinsmann and Low 2004-6 style setup)

2) Hoddle

3) Wenger

4) 2 more years of abject failure (Bruce, Pardew or Southgate)

Well all the best England managers have been ex-Spurs (Ramsey, Venables, Hoddle)

We need a new poll!

Im actually changing my mind. Glenn would be my choice out of the current list above.

Bones is he stop being a pundit on BT (fingers crossed)

Before Allardyce was appointed, Rodgers would have been the type of coach that Dan Ashworth wanted.

The 'England DNA' thing that he launched for the age group teams a couple of years ago was supposed to help create a pipeline of talent leading to the senior team. Rogers used a similar 'DNA' approach to signing players at both Swansea and Liverpool.

However, Allardyce was pretty dismissive of the concept as soon as he got the job, and was presumably backed by the FA Chief Exec.

If a deliberate decision was made that a more pragmatic 'motivate the players' type manager was needed they should be sticking with it. Otherwise it makes the Allardyce appointment look even more desperate.

I said last time around it should be Hoddle and we ended up with the Dinasour Fat Sam. Give it to Hoddle and appoint a younger manager to work with him.
