Our "Big Name" players

Why isn't he playing well? Because he doesn't score every time we are about to lose?

He bossed Swansea.
He was by far our best player against Norwich, the only one trying to create something instead of hoofing the ball, even if it meant receiving the ball in our box.
Today his skill provided Parker the opportunity to play a very nice pass to Adebayor and he provided some great through balls to the wings which we wasted.

come on, bring out that big stat hiding in your pocket

He is our playmaker, he went missing today. We never kept the ball enough

Well why are people blaming Modric and the other attacking players? It was the defence that collapsed at the end. But they're not high profile. So have a go at Modric, Bale and VDV.

The thread is about our 'big name players'. Modric, Bale, VdV and Adebayor are those which is why we're discussing them.

And I am talking more about the "big" games. The Utd's, the Real Madrid's, the Arsenal's etc. I am not saying I don't rate Modric, I think he is an excellent player. But we often regard him as a world class player. A player can still be superb, but over rated.

Who mentioned scoring goals? I think by now every Spurs fan knows that Luka's strongpoint is not scoring goals. It's controlling the tempo of the game with his sublime passing, which hasn't been there for the past few games.

And not only in this game,it's the same scenario for most of our defeats this year.

Defence fudges up totaly against Arsenal, blame Kranjcar.
King has a nightmare against Norwich, blame Modric and Bale.
Concede 5 against Chelsea?Let's blame VdV who almost scored 2 goals for us

maybe Modric still has hopes of signing for his beloved Chelsea in the summer. Maybe that affected his mind today

we have players in modric and van der vaart who require tactics and formations in order to get the best out of them. sticking van der vaart on the right, modric on the left and bale in the middle is a fudging joke.

not learning that 442 gets your well and truely raped is a joke. everyone can see it on here, it happens time and time again and still no end in sight.

not managing our resources to wins over stoke, wolves and norwich at home is a joke.

bringing in dads army and leaving us smack in the middle of totally unecessary transition is a joke.

missing the games against liverpool cos your in the old bailey and then beliving your own hype about england and showing zero commitment is a joke.

the lack of commitment, i believe, is contagious - players like modric and bale will also be thinking im outta here soon - fudge it.

the attitude and focus in any organistion - be it football or not - comes from the top.

its really time that it all stopped. what are the apologists excuses now? chelsea are five goals better than us? arsenal? wolves? norwich?

And yet playing 4-4-2 got us into third with a bit of a cushion, and we then switched to 4-5-1 and started to struggle badly :-k

I wish Harry would stick to ONE system though. Today's 4-5-1 didn't work at all and then when he did switch to 4-4-2 he should've pushed VDV up top and took Ade off.

Our biggest problem is we don't score goals from all over the pitch. We are relatively one dimensional when it comes to making the bag bulge.
Modric is most effective in a three man midfield but one of the other midfielders needs to be a goalscorer. Is this VDV...?

I dunno - bollox, I'm speaking off the cuff after watching some real dross and ridiculous ref'ing - think I may wait for the morning.

i thought Redknapp doesnt like 442, he told the world last weekend, and with us still in the game at 2-1 he reverts to 442. Cant blame the players when the manager cant stand the system

If you start thinking for a second, just a second, then you would realise our team is not set up to keep the ball. It's designed to bring the ball to the wings as soon as possible and use the pace of Bale/Lennon to create chances.

I'm you'll follow that up with diagrams showing how Modric was to blame for the 4 goals we conceded.
no but we didnt show much going forward or in our possession, somethings he does contribute towards.....we scored 1, they scored 5

ok, so what is the point in Modric, we dont suit his style.

Now this I do agree with. 4-5-1 has completely fudged us up this season. Pre-Xmas 4-4-2, the players know where they are playing, we keep it simple and we perform well. We switch to 4-5-1 post Xmas and it turns to brick. We start today with 4-5-1 lose all momentum AGAIN. When we do play 4-4-2 against Norwich we play with the WRONG personnel in the system. I just don't get why Manager's do this.

It really is simple for us, we go back to the start. We play 4-4-2 home or away, regardless of the opposition. We play VDV in the hole, with Modric and Parker behind him. We do that for the remaining games and we have a shot at 4th still.

we can take the 50 million from City and buy a player to play simple balls out wide for bale and lennon....whats the problem?

It can and does happen. Ade was the biggest culprit of their first goal for example. It was a silly cheap pass to give away and then they score from the counter (if you call route one counter!). They then get a jammy second goal and it's all over. It didn't matter we pulled one back. That second goal destroyed our fragile confidence and to be fair at the point of scoring it Chelsea were tinkling all over us.

This,stick to one system please.

And one more thing I noticed, with BAE's terrible form lately,we simply have no attacking full backs and it's costing us.
