General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

We should sell him whilst we can still get some decent money for him.Didn't seem to me to be a major upgrade on Dawson. Not good enough for us would rather let the youngsters play in Europa.Really our season is not going to be impacted whether he stays or go.

fazio has never impressed me, i was hoping he would be a naybet type. I am really sad we did not go for Gomez who went to Liverpool for only 4m. I know Gomez is not experienced but with verts and aldrewield and a season from drier I think we should have gone fr Gomez.

We have a Dier and Wimmer in the first team squad already.

And we have Cameron Carter Vickers and Milos Veljkovic likely to be pushing for a squad place within the next eighteen months - both of whom could be better than any other young defender we could buy.

We therefore had no need of Gomez. As others have said, we can't sign every good, young player.

From our business thus far I can only guess what the plan is. Seems to me we are the only club in the league whos aim for the transfer window is to post profits on player turnover while everyone else's aim is to improve their squad and move forward as a club. Oh well sure once the 'game changer' stadium is built we'll be splashing the cash.

No need for Fazio and if the vickers Carter lad is the bees knees we will have to create a path for lad to come thru and get experience .. Wimmer dier vertoghen and Toby is more than enough if u ask me with this lad coming behind as 5th

N'jie is £10m plus add ons, apparently. And I reckon Berahino will eventually go for no more than £20m.

So that's £30m, really.

On the flip side, we've already earned some £15-20m more from player sales than we've spent thus far this summer. And we're still likely to sell Soldado (£10m?); Lennon (£5-8m); Adebayor (maybe for nothing, maybe for up to £5m, but at least a large chunk of wages off costs). It's also possible that we will sell Townsend (£10-15m) and / or Carroll (£5m?).

It's furthermore true to say that we are scarily short of proper striker options.

So not only can we easily afford both Berahino and N'jie (and a proper DM), we also need them both. N'jie is supposedly as good as signed. And all sorts of sources seem to be saying that it's only a matter of time before we sign Berahino too.

So I'd be very surprised now if we didn't sign both.

Yeah - this is my maths on it:

Current profit - £15m
Adebayor £0
Soldado £12m
Lennon £4m
Fazio £7m
Carroll £5m
= £43m

N'jie £10m
Berahino £20m
Bender £15m

= £45m

I really hope you are right.

When you consider the size of a transfer fee it's a bit simplistic to say "West Brom want £20m, no way we will pay that". You'd be right on the face of it, yes. They do want £20m, or at least a face-saving "headline figure" so they can say "well what choice did we have- we can't turn that down". Spurs, of course, don't want to pay upwards of £15m on a 22 year old who has had one great season. BUT... he's on low wages, we could sign him to a 5 year contract on say £40k a week, doubling his wages overnight but still lower than our higher earners. You say that this would be reviewed after the first season performance and Levy has form for rewarding great form with new contracts.

So the wage deal is £2m for the first year plus signing fee, agents fee, you are talking under £5m when signing someone like Soldado probably cost double that in the first year of his contract.

Then you offer West Brom a structured deal where we are probably only paying £10m upfront but they will be able to report the deal as a £20m deal.

Its about working to a compromise where they're happy with what they get and what they can report and we are happy with what we can afford. That's why these deals are never easy.

For people debating Berahino's price/value, what price would you put on Kane if Man U came calling? Both Kane and Berahino are young, English, centre-forwards and have each had one good season. There should be some comparability in price, yet people/media talk of £40m for Kane and various posters on here are balking saying £15m max for Berahino? There might be some difference but Kane wouldnt be over 2x Berahino

Kane has a 4 or 5 year contract where as Berahino has 2 and next summer WBA would be worried about him walking on a free. Also we're a bigger/richer club so it would take more money to prize one of our key assets away - player values are as much about who's bidding/selling and contracts as they are about how good the player is

£4m for Lennon seems a tad low. I can't see levy accepting anything less than £6m.

The longer the window goes on the more his price drops. He's clearly unwanted (no squad number etc.) and in the last year of his contract. He also seems set on Everton, so they can wait knowing he'll turn down any other moves.

All factors I agree but that doesnt make Kane £40m and Berhaino £15m

Tim Sherwood on new signing Adama Traore: "I know him well. I tried to bring him to Tottenham. He's a bit Ronaldo and a bit Messi."

Barca have apparently included a buy back option for the first 3 years and first refusal on any transfer.
