Doesn't always have to be like that. We signed Modric early enough, didn't we? There will be other opportunities ahead to complete similar deals
Of course, but we have signed the odd player early in every window. But the majority of sales and I comings tend to be late on...

Isn't that recently though because we've been waiting on transfer funds from the sale of one of our key players?

Unless Lloris moves, I can't see us selling on any of our big players this summer.

That's exactly my point
If we play the waiting game we will end up with 3rd and 4th choices

If we wanna back Poch we need to be first in line like we did with Modric

Definitely. We need to give them pre season time for once. Sure, if any good players become available later on, we could get a deal, but that should be in addition to our other signings not instead of. And, there must be other players akin to Berbatov & Modric about..just a case of identifying them and isn't that what our scouting system is for?

I would rather Austin or Berahino than those 2.

Austin just looks like another Nugent or Holt to me. And Berahino is a Defoe with a whole host of mental and off-field issues

I like Ings and Rodriguez because they have a combination of technique, physical attributes and a bit of intelligence

We are moving early. Alli and Wimmer have been signed already - so that's CB and CM signings in place. That leaves just CF and LWF left to look at

Why are people saying his manager told the press he's coming to us? It was the Austrian national team coach and he actually said "he's off to England in the Summer"

Here's his agent's quotes:

"In addition to Tottenham, there are two other Premier League clubs who are in negotiations with Cologne about Kevin," he told reporters. "If Kevin continues the great form he's shown in the Bundesliga, it's only natural there will be interest."

Good in theory but if he has already determined that half our squad is garbage then what can you do!?

I think the Modrić situation was an exceptional one from our point-of-view, though. His agent probably wanted to get him a bigger club, but those that were looking at him vacillated because they thought he was going to be too lightweight. We were settled for, in order to get him into the Premier League, but of course, that was before Levy started all his sabre-rattling talk about holding players to contracts. If you ask me, agents in a similar situation will more than likely think twice about us in the light of all that.

It's a good point about Levy's actions around Modric having a potential impact on potential future transfers. I wouldn't have wanted Levy to have acted any differently though, we shouldn't just stand back when other clubs want our players.

Not sure I agree.

We are reliably top 6/7 with a big fan base; we are secure in terms of both profile and finances.

Agents benefit from this in three ways:
- A successful player can command a pay packet of up to £100k, which gets passed on to their agent.
- By holding on to Bale and Modric (not to mention Berbatov and Carrick), we sold at peak value - £30m and £86m. Hence even if the agents don't receive a cut of that fee, the wages on offer would also have been at peak value.
- All four of the aforementioned players established themselves at 2 of the biggest clubs in the world, becoming global icons and undoubtedly attracting massive sponsorship money.

We have a track record of being a stepping stone onto the greatest clubs in the world; players and agents share in the associated financial rewards.

I'd say we're very attractive to them.
