*** Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leicester City *** OMT

Frustrating that it's at 2-1. We got some nice breaks, but again we are just so open. Walker is getting exposed time and time again, never thought he'd be second best for pace. Also Vardy is a skinny guy, what's with him being more aggressive than Walker. He needs to up his game.
Walker done really well for the second goal.

I'd swap Dembele for Chadli.

Their goal came from Eriksen giving the ball away. That shouldn't be such a problem, but when you have Rose bombing on (as he should), it leaves us far too exposed.

Townsend off, Lamela on
Chadli off, Dembele on

Thanks.

With the early sub for Lloris two subs at half time won't happen. I'll take one though - Dembele for Chadli, Eriksen left would be a good change.

We were on top for a large portion of that half but were rather wasteful in possession.

I don't think things are going to change this season, but I do think our system needs to change. We aren't winning the midfield battle often enough and Rose has been caught out upfield too often. This isn't his fault as it's where he is expected to be in order to play the wideman in our attacking formation, but we are seeing Nugent and Vardy both getting into those spaces that our FB's are leaving and causing problems. We are also being overly aggressive with the press and leaving holes all over the place. Really looks disorganised.

The injury to Lloris is a problem as we are down a sub and I'd like to see Stambouli bought on to just clog things up in the middle whilst Chadli and Townsend could both be hauled off (both poor defensively atm and guilty of not tracking their men).

So Its the manager ?

The system is definitely down to the manager. I think the system could work although strangely I think it's better suited to European football (where we have looked terrible this season) rather than the Premier League where even the weaker teams are gung ho in attack.

But right now we don't have the players to make the system consistently successful which is why our performances can range from brilliant to terrible over the space of a couple of weeks.

Should the Manager get the most out of his current set of players and play to their strengths more? Or try and implement a system over time, ensure the players that will be here longer are used to the system even though in the short term it doesn't suit the players? In an ideal world I'd say the latter every time. But football is short term, especially when it comes to personnel (on and off the pitch) and systems. There isn't much room for building for the future outside of the club infrastructure (e.g. Academy) and unless Poch knows that Levy is going to give him time come what may over the next few years and Poch is willing to be loyal (and let's be honest, neither of these have been demonstrated in the past with Levy getting nervous very quickly and not backing managers and Poch leaving Southampton quickly when a "bigger" club in his eyes came calling) then it's a dangerous game to play.

We so badly need to sort out the inside forwards over the summer. Chadli who scores but doesn't work hard enough for the team, Lamela who works hard but offers little in terms of goals and finally Townsend who to me offers nothing and shouldn't even be in the starting eleven. In Poch's system we need quality all-rounders, the system can't really afford to carry players.

Play the long ball over the top and you have the beating of us and what with Lloris not being in goal this could be a stressful 45 minutes.

If we had a leader on the pitch he'd have rose and walker dropping back after we were 2-0 up.
No game management waiting for Poch to save them a half time.
Everyone can see this issue yet we keep playing this way. I can only conclude that Poch is prepared to trade off this vulnerability for a perceived additional attacking threat. However, it seems that we are always likely to concede and on a day when the opponent has its shooting boots on, several times. Not what is needed to be a top team in the League because it guarantees the sort of inconsistency that we are seeing.

I'd have Lamela playing in front of Walker now for protection. And Rose in front of Davies on the other side.

Lamela doesn't offer his full back much protection. Lamela is good at hounding the opposition defence when they're in possession though. But he loses the ball too often when out of position and when his full back has over lapped and that just can't be tolerated in Poch's system.

I agree. For this system to work we need better full backs and much more creative/penetrative wide attacking players. We also need at least one better central midfielder who can defend and attack. Going to be a busy transfer window if they want to get it right!

I don't understand why we are so open when we are two goals up. We get two early goals without having to work too hard for them... Great!

Then you make sure you play sensibly. It was one ball over the top all the time, and we were caught out. Naive, disorganised and plain stupid. Okay, you want to continue attacking, I am all for that, but make sure you attack sensibly.

Hopefully, Poch can at least sort it out at half time, but it was happening just about from the first minute. Try do correct it before we conceded rather than afterwards. You go two goals up against the team rock bottom of the league, and yet you don't look comfortable for a second.

watch a game of football involving lamela, when we dont have the ball, he is ALWAYS deep in our half. because he understands football and a system in place. Townsend just stands on the wing near the half way line hoping for a break, we dont need those in our team.

They started with high pressure and we cut through them time and again. Then they sat back and completely stifled our attacking play.

Was leicester's goal down our left as rose was caught upfield ? How come they can do a quick cut n thrust, we never seemingly can ?? But yeah our midfield not good enough, getting owned - and our defence left exposed, never seemingly in command for my comfort.

We need another goal, at least, COYS !!!
