General Transfer Discussion Thread

But we're not an elite club. So we have to target players who are below elite level and hope that they become elite level with us.

And I bet that if you watched Destro enough, you'd see that he too is capable of conjuring goals out of nothing even if, like Falcao, most of his goals are set up for him.

I haven't watched him enough, hence the question for other opinions

Well, clearly the idea is for Spurs, in time, to become acclimatised to Poch's tactics and preferred pattern of play. And if Destro is deemed to be the right kind of striker to spearhead a team playing in such a manner, then it doesn't matter if he's not a lone wolf kind of striker who makes his own chances.

Falcao isn't the kind of striker who generally makes his own chances either. Would you reject the opportunity to sign him too - hypothetically speaking, of course?

What are the reasons to think that Destro would be deemed the right kind of striker to spearhead us under Poch?

Seeing as this rumour is coming from Italy, probably none.

Been hearing about him for years, but he hasn't really lived up to the hype yet.

Or they could throw in Schneiderlin and we'll give them 10 million.

Would make me happy at least! Perhaps it would appease the Southampton fans too, despite the "not leaving" comments...

Although, as people rightly point out, swap deals rarely happen "parallel deals" do happen like when we signed Vorm and Davies when Swansea got Sig. Being able to jump the line for Townsend might be a sweetener for Southampton more than just the monetary value.

Fingers crossed...

I've no idea. I've never seen him play.

But if it's true that we are interested in him, I'm sure that Poch and Baldini have decided that he would be a good fit.

I wouldnt sell Townsend for 10m - there is no guarantee that Lamela will be a success whilst we know that Townsend could add value to the team and has shown it at times.

before? sunderland i think.......i was hoping Koeman with his knowledge of dutch football would be strangely excited by Chadli. Shame it isnt so

He has? Can we have a source?

See, I assume because you're talking in a transfer thread about Chadli, he must be linked with someone new. It can't just be that you're taking cheap shots at players who haven't even played a competetive game this season, I mean that would be pretty ridiculous.

He was linked as being a makeweight in the Depay deal but he was not meant to be keen on returning to the Eredivisie.

Understandable really. It's a step down in league quality and he has just left that league. Chadli will feel he has a point to prove and I hope he does. In saying that Depay looks a real talent from the highlights I've seen and looks to have outgrown that league too.

16m is fair but I still wouldn't sell.
I'd value him at a little less but not by much. I'd prefer to keep him for this season and see if he can improve further but I would be tempted to sell if it helped us secure one of our manager's principle targets and if Poch did not view him as a first 11 player.

Indeed.

Not a single one of our players should be finally judged on their performance last season. They have proved before that they are good players. They should be given a chance to prove that they can be so again - under a manager who inspires and who knows what he is doing.
