Is there any more to the Llalana / Bentley comparison other than age, nationality and being a somewhat late bloomer?

From what I've seen of Bentley on the pitch and some of his comments about life in general he would have fit into a hard working, high pressing Pochettino side about as well as the camel through the proverbial eye of the needle.

I think (in hindsight) Bentley as the star of that Blackburn side was cut a lot of slack, he could get away with some shoddy defending and even a lot of inconsistency going forward because of occasional moments of brilliance that no other player could provide for them. Almost the big fish in a small pond analogy to perfection.

From what I've seen of Llalana that's not been the case, he seems hard working and a team player. He seems a fairly consistent performer and there's not a massive difference in style of play between Southampton and Liverpool, certainly not as big as the difference between Blackburn and us.

Might be something I'm missing here, but I think he will do quite well for them. He's expensive, he's not young, but he's proven in the league and English so the premium fee is to be expected. For a club in desperate need for immediate quality in depth with their upcoming attempt to repeat a league over-achievement combined with CL football possibly wile losing their superstar permanently and at least being without him for 1/4 of the season it's the kind of deal that makes sense.

Bentley was weak mentally and the pressure of the move always seem to make him try to do too much, be too fancy. People forget he had a decent run of games when we had injuries, where for a little while he kept it simple and did a ok shift.

Lallana for me is a bit more of a hard working player, but his biggest challenge with Pool is he is likely going to be shoehorned into whatever space is left after the "untouchable" names on the team sheet get put in, vs. being a core part of the system built to include him.

I think the pressure difference between Blackburn and us, vs. Southampton and Pool is exactly the same

I think maybe Stewart Downing is a better comparison for Lallana than Bentley, but ultimately the same result.

The huge price tag is always the problem. Very few players cope with moves for huge sums of moeny, especially when previously they were either homegrown or a cheap buy for the club they are leaving.

Lallana will be a good purchase for Liverpool. Quick feet and plenty of invention and a good work ethic.

I can imagine it being almost impossible to get Lovren for a decent/reasonable price now Southampton are loaded and politically with their fans would be stupid to let another player go who is on a long contract for anything that isn't seen as a ridiculous fee. We've moved too late on this one.

As to Lallana he's a quality player and I think he'll do very well for liverpool

Apparently Falcao is in Madrid to finalise his transfer to Real

.............Falcao
Ronaldo..............Bale

Wowser

falcao is a brilliant player, he's better than Benzema no doubt, but I think that Benzema is a better fit to play with the other two

Adds credence to the rumour that Madrid/Monaco brokered a deal last summer for Falcao to go to Monaco 1st then leave for Madrid as Atletico wouldnt sell to Madrid

James Rodriguez being linked to Real Madrid too

.....................Falcao

Ronaldo........Rodriguez.........Bale

Double wowser

Sounds like something Perez would do. Isco, Di Maria and a couple of others would likely be very ****ed off

Robert Snodgrass completes his move to Hull City from Norwich City, signing a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Damn right it's 'undisclosed'. Who would voluntarily disclose that they paid 8 million quid for Robert Snodgrass?

What I find utterly incredible is that they only gave him a three-year contract at the end of that madness.

isn't there some stat that he has been involved in all of Norwich City's goal since 1972?

he makes things happen, another solid hull signing IMO

When Norwich created something he was usually involved. Problem though was how seldom that happened.

:D

In all seriousness, there's very little need to spend that kind of money on him. I know Bruce seems to restrict himself to the isles when he's given the power to select his own transfer targets, but for 8 million quid he could have gotten a whole host of players from the continent that would have boosted Hull's squad far more than Snodgrass will. Hell, 3 million more was all it took for us to snatch Eriksen, apparently.

Livermore is a good signing for the Tigers. Ince will also be a good signing, if he does end up moving there. 8 million for Snodgrass on a three-year deal is not in any way value for money, imo.

I think you're doing Snodgrass a disservice. He's a very tidy player for a club like Hull. Not that I'd want us to sign him obviously, but for Hull, he'll be a good player for them. They're doing some great work at that club, improving the squad they have every summer little by little.
