Our strikers next season

Benteke please. Yeah he's struggling this season but he's playing in a weak side, he proved he could cut in this league last season, one bad season doesn't make him crap just as equally as one great season doesn't make him great. He would be cheaper too as a result of sophomore slump.

I think there's a high chance we will buy someone that impresses at the World Cup.

I wanted lambert in January as an option till the end of the season but not so much this summer. Need someone younger. Some have sggested Rordriguez which i think would be great.

Definantly need someone with Premier League experience otherwise we risk another Soldado sort of season.

Can't you see Levy cashing in on Ade? He'll be 30 in the summer and is out of form as often as he is in. This could be our last chance to get a decent fee for him.

Remember we only paid a nominal fee for him (less than £5m).

The key thing about Ade is that during this contract City are still paying half his wages. It's also the reason we'll struggle to offload him, as his next club will have to pay him double the wages we are (i.e. £200k instead of £100k).

The deal with City expires this summer

Would have to be a lot cheaper than the prices that were tossed around previously ..

I certainly wouldn't pay more than £10m for him. I think at this point in time he's looking far more like the new Kenwyn Jones (who Redknapp tried to buy for £20m at the end of his good season!) than the next Drogba.

I was pretty sure it was a 3-year deal to summer 2015?

I'm not opposed to letting him go for a younger model, but I also don't think letting him walk on a free next summer would be a disaster either, because I don't think we'll get much of a fee at all for him now.

It's been widely reported recently that the deal ran for the remaining period on his City contract which takes us to summer 2014. I've varying reports of what happens after that, one is that his wage remains thge same and we pick up the lot, the other is that his wages drop to the level of our contribution. I have no idea which is correct.

I think you're a few years out of touch with your figures, we had Pienaar and Holtby on £70k/£75k!

both of them were signed for very low transfer fees when they had 6 months left on their respective contracts, so their salaries at Spurs would have been bumped up by the big signing on fees being spread over the length of their deals id imagine......still, Levy is not allowing anyone to go over around 70-75k a week iirc. Most of the players are between the range of 40k-75k

It was £13mil up front wasn't it?

yep 13 mill up front and the majority of the rest to be paid in installments. Depends on how the installments were calculated, based on appearances and success or a simple set amount to be paid each year for 3 or 4 years. iirc its the latter, so we still will end up paying the majority of the 26 mill whether we keep him or sell him off at the end of the season

Believe it or not, I'm actually happy with the strikeforce we've got. I think Soldado will come good. His all-round play is better than Defoe's.

A new LB would be my priority (unless Zacky Fryers suddenly develops)

To me this illustrates why people should refrain from saying "why don't you just" about what Levy should do in the transfer market with any kind of certainty. We have little to no details about the actual details of these contracts and the situation of any negotiation.

That wasn't the question. It was a hypothetical on what we do if Levy decides to cash in on Ade, Defoe's already been sold and Soldado cannot buy a goal.

What does that add up to for Benteke? Not crap, not great? 23 years old, waiting to see if he pushes through the last barrier or not?

Not saying I wouldn't want him, but he's not at the top of my wishlist. He's also been playing for a team playing a very different style from us, I think his height and physicality would have helped us (as it has from Ade), but he would still have some adjustment to do.

I know he'll be 28 in the summer, Benteke probably has more potential, but for me I would be more excited about Michu. Looks more impressive even when he's not scoring, more complete, can play more roles. Hasn't claimed to want to sign for us only to sign a new contract the next week. I think there's a very good chance Laudrup would still have his job if Michu hadn't gotten injured.

Benteke and Bony aren't anywhere near good enough and will be ridiculously overpriced.

Michu has struggled with injured this season, but not shown much when he has played either. Turns 28 in one month.

How much have you seen of him this season? I don't watch as much football as I used to these days, but he's looked good whenever I've seen him.
