*** The Official 'How do you stop Emirates Marketing Project?!?!' OMT ***

The point a few of us have been making about the way the two midfield players line up has really hurt us tonight and it did against the scum in the cup game. They line up next too each other and leave a massive gap between the midfield and the defence. Villa been bossing it all night in that space along with aguero and even Dzeko.

Out of possession they really need to sit one in front of the other and one of them take responsibility for filling that space.

If we played three in the centre then one could fill that space and the other two could roam around.

----------------------Sandro---------------------------
-------------Dembele------Benteleb--------------

-------Lennon------------------------Eriksen-------
----------------------Afdebayor-----------------------

My thinking exactly. I love the fluidity Tim's brought to the side with both his 4-4-2 and hid 4-3-3 with Bentaleb as the indisciplined, fluid 'holder', and there is no question that we need to keep employing those tactics when facing every side in the bottom twelve or so. But against the top sides, Bentaleb's positional indiscipline and youth means it is unfair to expect him to play a disciplined 'holder' ahead of Daws and Vlad. He will drift around, which will leave a gap in front of our back-line that the likes of Aguero and Dzeko brilliantly exploited tonight.

Bentaleb is not a holding midfielder. We have two of those; Sandro and Capoue. Hopefully Tim realises this going forward. By all means, let the two midfielders and the three ahead of them play with freedom: hell, let the wing-backs do it as well if you have to. But against sides like City, play a disciplined holding midfielder in front of our CB-partnership and tell him to sit tight and snuff things out before they make an impact on the space beyond Daws and Vlad. Please.

Embarrassing. Hilarious that Capoue showed he is ten times the player Bentaleb is, but maybe now Tim has seen Capoue play he might know what he's about.

This club is a ****ing a joke... Levy needs to go, he's done some amazing stuff for us, but he constantly rips us apart whenever we get close. Appointing Tim is the just the final act of idcioy.

Get a grip ffs

That angle was not when Eriksen touched the ball.

So much for not capitulating like last time.

I watched both games start to finish and while both results are horrific you cannot say we capitulated like at the Etihad. Yes, they swarmed us for much of the first half but tonight we showed some grit and character.

Time to leave space for those who wish to crow about our defeat.

**** off matey. We all feel gutted. the only good news is that we MIGHT not lose at home again. Onwards and upwards

they fully deserve the win, but they have been so lucky with the bounce of the ball tonight

So many talk of luck tonight, but you make your own luck - was Capoue's goal also not a tad fortuitous ? I think if we got Daws and Ade's earlier on would have been very interesting, but we are talking about the top side, and top scoring side in England at the moment. The number of times we were caught short at the back, whereas they always seemed to have bodies when we came at them, you keep doing that in a game you'll get those flukey bounces and goals.

I agree with that. Which is why it was so important not to let them have the ball and to play with a screen in front of the defence.

Yep. I suspect that one of the reasons he favoured Bentaleb and Dembele is because he thought that they would do better at holding possession than Capoue and A.N. Other. It didn't work out but we've got no guarantees that the alternative would have faired any better.

Ah hell you guys....back to the floor again.

Really hope we can get Verts, Sandro, Lamela & Paulinho on the pitch again soon......we need our top players.

The main crux is that we started shi*e again and this wasnt Palace!!!!! No doubt the haters of Sherwood will have a big fat sweaty smile on their face....personally I am gutted for my club....in the summer we need a re-think - too many hammerings at home!!!!

were down but not out!!!!! pick ourselves up get our best players on the pitch!!!! still plenty to play for!!!

I agree but we had a fair amount of luck against us there too

Capoue, Bentaleb and Dembele would probably have worked.

The best that could be said about that bit of the match is that we played with a bit of fight.

Like Palace or West Ham or some other little club. I want to see us play with intelligence and skill thanks.

I would take not collapsing like utterly spineless cretins after going a goal down after fifteen seconds over 'intelligence and skill' any day. It is a bit sad that our hotly anticipated 'breakthrough' season (AVB's methods bearing fruit after a year, all the awesome players we bought chipping in, our unparalleled squad depth showing over the course of the season, Spurs winning things, finishing top four, the stadium funding being secured hopefully midway through the year) has been reduced to the point where we have to hope for either one or the other, but at least we tried today. That couldn't always be said under AVB.

you can see thats not the same moment, look at the separation Ade has (and his change in posture) in the one on the left
