***OMT*** Tottenham Hotspur v Swansea City, Sunday 19th January 13:30

There's a good chance that he wont even make the bench. We pretty much know the team and the bench will include Freidel and 2 defenders (eg Fryers and Naughton) plus Capoue as CM cover. That leaves 3 bench spaces for Holtby, Chadli, Townsend, Kane (as CF cover) or Lamela

How about Defoe? Or is he still in Toronto?

as of now games against the top 4 for me. anyone else below we must be able to beat. the odd loss to the lower teams to balance out against the odd win against the top 4. regardless of league or cup games.

Lets see what you say when we play our top four rivals.

I think the main threat to us will be from Bony.

We have to set-up the side the keep him from getting into one-on-ones with our CBs; either on the floor (vs Dawson) or in the air (vs Chiriches).

Therefore whoever is in the middle has to help out the defence in that regard. If we do that you'd expect us to be ok.

I personally would drop Soldado for this one, perhaps sending him a message which will hopefully motivate him for the City game in 10 days.

My team:

Lloris

Walker (Naughton if not 100% fit), Daws, Vlad, Rose

Capoue
Bentaleb Dembele

Lennon Eriksen

Ade

That should have enough control AND creativity for me. But I suspect we'll see the same 4-4-2 formation, which could be risky, though nit as risky as against Arsenal at the Emirates (sigh).

Anyway, with Liverpool dropping points, our next game vs City and Everton playing on Monday we absolutely have to capitalise and win this.

I'm going for 3-1 to us: Ade with two, plus Eriksen. Bony for them.

COYS

What's the point in beating your top 4 rivals if you drop more points per game against the bottom clubs??

There have been many a side who have done very well against the top 5/6 only to finish mid-table because of constant dropped points against the bottom 10 etc.

We had a better results set than Arsenal vs the top 6/7 last year but because they were flat-track bullies against the bottom sides they pipped us by one point to the top 4.

Manure won the league on pretty much getting almost 100% points against the bottom 10 last season. Can't see what all the fuss is about the importance of a win today tbh - if we still harbour hopes of top 4 that is

Just wondering if, after Today's results, anybody still doesn't think it's a must-win game..:-"

Would it have been any less of a must-win in your mind if Liverpool had won yesterday? I don't see the logic in that myself...

-----------------------------

Hope we start well, we got away with one against Palace, but hopefully Sherwood and the players managed to learn their lesson from that anyway.

COYS! Really looking forward to the game...

I always said it was a must-win game from the start of the weekend. Liverpool dropping two points make it even more of a must win now if we are chasing top4. What's the point of not capitalising when we can?

Surely, this has to be a must-win match for us. The race for top 4 is so tight that we cannot afford to drop points to bottom teams, home or away now. Besides, Swansea are in shyte form and without a win in 7 matches. And we have won our last 4 matches against Swansea and unbeaten against them since 1982. So, there is no excuse not to win this match. We had an excellent away record under AVB as we didn't lose to any shyte teams away. Sherwood is duty bound to continue that record. Will be annoyed if we don't win this match.

We are still struggling for goals despite playing 2 strikers up front. Adebayor has not scored in his last 2 matches while Soldado still cannot score from open play. Defoe did well to score against Palace but is hardly playing nowadays. Not sure where the goals are going to come front. Hope we will make use of the chances that we get. Hope Adebayor will come up with his goal scoring boot on. It will be great if Defoe can come and score a goal to increase his goal tally. Ofcourse, Soldado scoring from open play will be much welcomed as well.

It is too bad we still cannot come up with a settled midfield despite more than half a season over. Still not sure who will play in midfield for us. I think our ideal partnership are Dembele and Sandro in the centre. But with Sandro out injured, we can't seem to find the right replacement. Would prefer Capoue to replace Sandro but Sherwood seem to prefer the inexperienced Bentaleb. Bentaleb was unlucky not to score against Palace but hope he can score this time. Eriksen suddenly seems like a goal-machine after scoring 3 goals in his last 4 matches. Hope he can continue that goal run. I think Lennon will be our key player for us as he can trouble the Swansea defence with his pace. Hope Lamela can play some part in this match. It is a pity Sherwood has not used him much since taking over. How sweet it will be if Lamela can come on and score !

Our defence did well to keep the clean sheet against Palace. Hope we can stop Swansea scoring as well. Wish Vertonghen is back for this match. Our defence is really not the same without him. We seem to be making too many errors with Dawson and Chiriches in defence. Hope they can make minimum mistakes this time. Want to see Lloris having a error-free match as well. I think Lloris's form really affects how the defenders play. So hope he will be at his best. Will be disappointed if we don't keep a clean sheet in this match, even if we play away.

Performance is really not important in away matches like this. But hope we can play well and get a comfortable win.

Any official team news yet ?

Hope we can turn up with the right mentality. I think we need an early goal to settle us down. Hope we won't get complacent even if we do score early. Don't really care how we play as long as we win.

At this point "must-win" has almost become synonymous for "a game". Looking at the table a draw would put us two points (plus GD) behind 4th, meaning that we would be well within reaching distance of that target even with a draw and even if we lose we will still be in with a shout. From here to the end of the season in May we're almost certain to have one or two upsets go against us, but we can still reach our target with some draws away to bottom half teams I think. That, to me, means that it's not a "must win". It's obviously a "would be bloody nice if we win" or a "I want us to try our darned hardest to win"...

Hopefully some of our players will stash their wands down their shorts.

With 'He who must not be named' playing in midfield and his merry band of death eaters who knows what could happen!

Wow, how many do think we will score. :)

Joking apart, good post. Today is one of those games I would accept a scrappy 1-0 win, although it would be not to be hanging at the death like last season at the Liberty. Those last 15/20 mins took forever to pass by

With liverpool dropping points and utd & Everton likely to three points would be massive.
Everyone on here will be spitting feathers if we dont win today I reckon.

Moussa Dembele will need to have a mighty display.
Under peforming is not an option today
Soldado to find his shooting boots?
Tightly marking Bony will help our chances.

We have tracksuit tim.!
Imagine the joy that three points could bring.
Nigey wants a win here and will be very pumpy if it doesnt happen!!!!

Try again at around 12.40pm

I can see what you're saying, but the problem is we have Emirates Marketing Project at home next, a game where I'm sure we will struggle to get a draw from, followed by 3 out of the next 4 away.
With this run we have of 4 from 6 away we really need to pick up at least 2 wins on the road, if not 3, to stay in touch. Thats why I feel this a must-win game, whereas I would suggest Saudi Sportswashing Machine away in a few weeks, bearing in mind their proximity to us in the League, is a must-not-lose
