Liverpool looked vulnerable today. Stoke and the ref gifted them goals, but they were pretty much second best throughout then scored a couple on the break when Stoke were desperate.
Apparently they will have a lot of games like this one in the second half of the season, away to bottom half teams that will fight for every sniff of the ball.
United haven't been all that either.
If we can click into gear, with the squad we've got our potential is right up there.

We've (by all accounts) been abysmal most of the season, had a micromanaging nightmare followed by 'arry-lite and our two big signings (Soldado & Lamela) are totally flops and Liverpool have had their best season in 6 years (based mainly on one man) and yet they are 2 points ahead of us. If we actually play well the second half of the season then I'd still back us to over take them. Not sure where Utd will end up in the wash though.

Agreed. Hull have been decent, but we've seen promoted teams collapse half way into the season before. No promoted teams with Huddlestone mind, I really think he'll be the difference maker for them.

They should have enough, but they are only 5pts above dropzone themsleves.
Their next 2 league games are Norwich and Palace, both away. Could be a crucial pair of games, very winnable to give them daylight, lose them both and they are going to be looking over their shoulder for sure

Yeah, by no means safe. But there are some shocking teams in that lower half and I think teams like Hull and Swansea really should have enough about them to get themselves safe.
5 pts above the drop half way (ish) through the season means 10 points above the drop if they keep that form going throughout the season. Impressive if they do imo.

Seven games without a win in the league for Swansea. Not a good omen, but we did a very professional job on them last season.

Yanga-Mbiwa pulled Nasri back by his shoulder, missed with a right-footed swing, missed with a left-footed swing then finally made thumping contact with another knee-high hack. In one incident, at least two bookings and a straight red card for violent conduct. Quite why Jones only issued a yellow card is a far more baffling decision than disallowing Tiote's goal, but not the one that will get the headlines.

Have you ever, at any point, in any league or international fixture seen a ref give more than one yellow for fouls happening in quick succession like that on the same player? I'm genuinely curious here, I can't think of a single example myself.
I don't think the last foul is violent conduct. It's an obvious cynical foul, it's hard and he has no chance of getting the ball, but the only reason this gets attention is because Nasri got injured and I think that was rather coincidental.
That kind of foul doesn't happen often though. Usually the player falls over at the first touch, or the referee stops play before things get out of hand, as they did.

Yeah, he definitely kicked him. I don't think it was malicious, just cynical. Now down you go to stop this counter attack...
Edit: No doubt if that happened to one of our players I would be furious, I can identify with what you're feeling for sure. Just saying what I think of the incident.
Two great game today in different ways. Shame that Emirates Marketing Project and Liverpool both won, but they with their strikers that should be no surprise. Even when those teams aren't at their best their attackers will win them games. Luckily for us, the many times we've been poor this season we've sometimes managed to grind out wins, but rarely cos of our strikers, more likely cos of being given a penalty. Do we go all out for a top striker in January and just accept Soldado isn't suited to this league? There's no guarantee either that Ade keeps his form up, even yesterday he was off the pace.
I cannot believe the Saudi Sportswashing Machine goal was disallowed, it was an unbelievable effort and deserved to count! But that Yanga-Mbiwa chap... I hate Nasri with a passion but that was disgusting. Cos of the FA's **** rules though YM won't get suspended cos he was booked.
Definitely not a pen for Liverpool if you ask me, it wasn't a dive either, it was like Bale last season where there was enough contact to take the man down but not enough for a pen IMO. Still, when Stoke play like that by launching ball after ball in to your box you have to be clinical up the other end, they were. Was it Jordinho who tried telling me SAS isn't a top partnership? More evidence today to suggest I was right I'm afraid mate.
