Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I'd love to win the cup tie but I'm more focussed on league form and would like to see us win the Europa League.

Good thing is that after this weekend there's 5/6 weeks that's a bit quieter and we can get some rest and full weeks on the training ground.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Pretty much agree with all of this.

Seeing as our chairman, manager and most of our fans have given up on long term planning in favour of short term results, then **** it - so will I!

Here's to enjoying the next match and no longer thinking past it!

The long term is always through the Sporting Director. Arnesen left, Comolli's head coach appointment was a failure and he had to go but both left considerable legacies taken on by those that followed. This is clearly why Levy was eager to return to it. No doubt he also compared the vast profits made from players sales under that system with the poor value brought in under Harry.

As for coaches/managers, it should be clear by now that anyone half decent hits the ground running. If they're not delivering clear objective progress after two years.. get rid! All the stuff about replacing coaches = years of transition is guff. See Rodgers, Martinez, Pardew.. did Liverpool, Everton and Saudi Sportswashing Machine slide down the table or take years to recover from the change? No, quite the opposite.

Sherwood starting well bodes well for the long term. The ODVDG started with a team that had finished 4th and left us with a demoralised team in 7th and he was meant to be some sort of progressive coaching genius. And there is no evidence that he'll 'learn' as it is hugely about character and personality. If that isn't there then you lose the players every time. This was the folly of saying Hoddle will somehow have 'improved' from 7 years ago. He had about 15 years in management and was still having the same issues at the end. The ODVDG probably would have failed long term at Porto too.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Actually sherwood is thinking long term - he is utilising the youth. He has great faith in them and that is something that bodes well for the financial future and longevity of this club. Levy im sure is and maybe just maybe he didnt really have the faith in AVB, I dont know and not many do either

Anyways this isnt about AVB and I think people need to stop saying 'I told you so' and 'where are the haters' etc. TS will still win some and will still lose some but he has definitely revitalised those players that seemed so mechanical and stale in the first few months of this season.

I'm glad you said that, it's so boring when all you get after a win is 'where's the Tim haters?' And when we lose it's the opposite. Ultimately we just want the best for Spurs.

Agree with the last thing you said there

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I was one of those not happy with the appointment of Sherwood. He is winning me over with the results and performances that we are putting out though. I just hope he doesn't have people turn on him if we lose to Arsenal on Saturday.

So long as he's not seen cheering an **** goal and sporting his tattoo , he'll be alright.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I dont think its to do with where we end up. I think it would be a little silly to judge him based on where we end up - of course if we end mid table or bottom half then yes that would matter but this whole fourth, third, sixth malarky cant be used. What should be used is is he promising what he has set out to do - good effective football, players fulfilling their potential and the utilisation of the youth? So far he has done that. He has shown different facets to his style, a tactical thinker as evidence today as well as a gung ho attitude when required.

Well said .

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I have been crying out for us to play 2 strikers all season, the difference is clear, now we continually look a goal threat

You're on a roll DHSF .... well said again =D>

If Sherwood does well this season, I can see him sticking with us for years to come.

I made it a resolution to start posting some well thought out posts haha.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

this is it for me.

I thank AVB for the results, but apart from the Bale heroics the rest was hard to watch week in week out

now we are looking like a Tottenham team should. audere est facere!!

For me its a return to the 90s and 00s. Plucky 'smash and grab' football then desperate backs to the wall as our soft centre implodes.

If that's 'our Tottenham back' then I do despair. It wasn't long ago we were genuinely trying to go toe-to-toe with the big boys by learning to play like contenders.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

"heart of a lion" =D>

Ray Stubbs : what can your Spurs team achieve this season , top four are you still in the title race ?

Sherwood : Listen we just try and win as many games we can , I know it's boring mate

Lol.. I dunno but that just cracked me up when I heard that .

Oh leave off. We beat Utd last season in the same manner, infact it was even more "backs to the wall" than today imo. When we beat Arsenal at home under AVB, we played more on the counter and let them have the ball. Anytime we have gone "toe-to-toe" against good sides, we have shipped goals galore.

And please name me these plucky "smash n grab" victories at Old Trafford that we got all through the 90's and 2000's, coz I must have missed them.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Actually, I think last season's was the "plucky smash and grab" if anything ...

Let it go Gutter Boy ... I liked AVB too and I were into the philosophy but Sherwood is now the head coach .

Deal with the now, enjoy the now .. The King is dead, long live the King!

Except it didnt implode

It wasn't smash and grab, its called counter attacking football. Containing them which we did and attack with flair, style and incisiveness, Unlike the labored tactical and monotonous approach we adopted in recent times. It was containing them with a purpose as opposed to just containing them and letting Bale do the thing he normally would have done.
