Re: BAE

We have Rose, Verts, Fryers and Naughton who can play LB none are better than Benny, the only explanation I can think of is that Bennys knee problem will prevent him playing every week, this will be answered when he plays for QPR, when he first got the injury a few years back Benny thought it was the end of his playing career, he said that in an interview I saw.

It's more then Benoit isn't really the sort of fullback to 'do a Walker', bomb on, 10, 11 times a time. Even though Walker and Rose have horrific end product, AVB seems to want more athletic fullbacks, sadly, Benny isn't that/ WHich is a big, big shame - I have Assou-Ekotto on a shirt, he is one of my favourite footballers, I love his football, but, he's not in the managers plans. Hopefully, AVB can coach some talent into Rose, I don't have much faith in that though. But it's a shame to see the end of Benoit.

Re: BAE

seems to be a lot of revisionism going on here, Benny wasn't half as good as this thread suggests, and Rose is far better than he is getting credit for, all IMO of course

This is why football is the best game of all, opinions.

But, Rose isn't particularly good is he? From what I've seen (I didn't watch masses of Sunderland last season) he's strong - very strong, got a decent passing range, and is pretty quick. That's not a bad set of skills. However, he's not proficient in the air, he's got woeful crossing ability, his decision making isn't always great, and I find him to be positionally unaware. I hope he can improve, I really do. I like him, his goal against Arsenal, his determination, his swagger, I just... I don't think he'll make it.

Re: BAE

His two main faults for me are his tendency to get caught out of position and his eagerness to dive in sometimes to a tackle. And his poor crossing. His THREE, his three principal faults are his tendency to get caught out of position, his diving into tackles, his poor crossing ability ...and the fact he's no good in the air... his FOUR, his four faults... No, AMONGST his faults are... I'll come in again.

Edit: I don't want to be too hard on Rose; I think he's got promise, but I would have felt more comfortable if we'd kept Benny around, and I hope his time here isn't over.

Re: BAE

I can accept Walker. I think he is slowly getting more solid and wiser. But he has no great creativity in passing or movement (and his crossing seems worse than either). I can't see that improving so I'd like our left back to carry that.

Seriously? Two wonder goals between them (three if you include Walker's freekick vs Blackburn) doesn't equate good end product. How many crosses has Danny Rose put into the box this season? Compare that to how many have gone out for throw in's. How many times does Walker beat the first man with his crosses, or GHod forbid when he takes a corner?

really? i still think he's still thick as pig ****.

I mean take the Gooner game...he actually had to be told by AVB to go long with his throw with literally seconds left. In his mind he thought the short option was best.

Re: BAE

Hopefully Harry rejuvenates him, he was a bit of a shadow of his former self last year. He played the best football of his long Spurs career under Harry, so perhaps he's very much a 'confidence' player. Will never be the wing-back AVB wants in this new 4-3-3 formation (although Rose isn't exactly the left-sided Dani Alves either), but he's still a damn fine left-back and more committed to Tottenham (the area) than most of our players and coaching staff. So however unlikely it is, I hope he shines on loan and then returns to become a settled part of our squad again.

I wonder how much of his indifferent form last season was down to taking time after coming back from the injury

That indifferent form is bound to have dented his confidence, though. Even BAE can't stay detached from his job for that long.

Either way, hopefully that's all behind him. And playing in the less challenging atmosphere of the Championship should help both his confidence and his recovery to no end.

The more I think about, the better this move becomes. 'Arry is the confidence man: why don't we just keep sending our players that need confidence boosts to QPR? We get all the benefits (arm around the shouldah) without any of the draw-backs (everything else). :D

The work of a charity in Tanzania, Caretakers of the Environment, is to feature in an upcoming BT Sport documentary, The Supporters Club: Street Child to Soccer Star.

The charity helps street children living in Mwanza, Tanzania, and is revealed as the latest of several new beneficiaries of The Supporters Club, set up by BT to help young people facing some of life’s toughest challenges – supporting charities in the UK and overseas.

The documentary sees Queens Park Rangers and Cameroon defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto and TV star Nick Han**** travel to Mwanza in Tanzania where they witness the work of the charity in action – helping street children escape a life of extreme poverty, abuse and hunger.

Nick and Benoit were also tasked with helping select a team of children and young people to represent Tanzania in the 2014 Street Child World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, a football tournament set up to challenge and highlight the struggles these children face every day.

Has anyone watched many of his games at QPR? The only person I know who's actually watched a few of their games is a scouser who says he's doing poorly at QPR. Mind you, he also says that Assou-Ekotto has always been ****, as do MANY fans who haven't seen him as we have. They always seem shocked when I tell them he was one of our most outstanding players a few seasons ago.
