Glasgow Rangers

I'd like to see the ground burn down personally.
I like the rivalry with them - not that I wouldn't laugh if they ceased to exist but I would rather they stay afloat and struggle! At the end of the day they're football supporters too, so wouldn't wish it upon them.

But yea, it's a swamp.

I'd like the Arse to be struggling to avoid relegation from League Two please, if you could arrange that

Rangerstaxcase.com (known as rtc) has been an incredible phenomenon for a while now. Will make great reading for those who are a) interested b) myopic and loving of information!

Seems the Guardian has had the wherewithal to latch on first.

http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/17/scotland-media-rangers?cat=football&type=article

Kinda reinforces my previous points, regarding the unhealthy bias and blinkered behaviour in media where Rangers' hand of influence meets with greed, hack ambition and medieval notions of bigotry.

This one is going to run and run..

Arrogance and self satisfaction, no, can't agree. Paranoia and victim mentality, perhaps so. However, facts are Celtic for most of its existence was the largest cultural outlet for a community of people on the receiving end of institutional fundamentalist hatred, so there is the context. The fact that there was never traditionally any friendly media outlet meant that the grassroots themselves banging on about the true state of things was the only way that argument was ever expounded. Also most are politically very Left. Some obviously found/find that insufferable and repetitive, that's ok.

The fact that what was and is being said seems to have been mostly true all along, should not be lost. In a footballing and cultural sense Scottish society is now asking pertinent and welcome questions about its "secret shame" as secularism and reason gain traction, and medieval notions of religious or racial supremacism seem ever more ridiculous.

Jim, always found you to be quite analytical on here and, previously, on SSC, so am somewhat surprised at the outputting of the party line on this, not quite "ones as bad as the other" but pretty close. If you feel anything I have "evidenced on this thread" is a total falsehood, I am happy to be corrected...(though I admit I have laid it on heavy!)

I will end with this thought this morning. Rather than give substance to to what HMRC are clearly now pushing for in the grand scheme of things (ie: football cheats are going to be hammered) there still remains a clique that are refusing to lay bare the machinations of this case, so as to save face, peddling a line of pity and bewilderment as they are.

This is a poorly judged reaction inasmuchas it undermines the thrust of what HMRC, and indeed FFP, are embarking upon.It will give succour to any new Ken Bates, Peter Risdales, Irving Scholars(!), David Murrays and Craig Whytes when HMRC come calling soon in England. A slash and burn policy will not work if you come and douse the flames as soon as the fire is lit.

This clique papering over the cracks today are usually the self same people who you will find pillorying single mothers, "benefit scroungers" and "johnny foreigner" etc etc and calling loudest and proudest about army equipment, help for heroes and similar. The fact that up to ?ú84m has been stolen from the public should now be drawing their full ire, you would think.

How horribly ironic that a club and subculture that aligned itself so closely with the military, and from whom you could often hear the term "white power" have been taking from the pockets of soldiers all along and whose "powers" are being given away by a man named "Whyte".

I'll repeat it again. Look past the PR and talking heads trotted out in the media and towards the fan forums of clubs across the spectrum in Scotland and there is a surprisingly strong appetite to do the seemingly unthinkable and go ahead and force open the window of opportunity that would exist without Rangers, or at least a powerful Rangers.

I realise many here would not have an appetite for the goldfish bowl nature of this debate (I hope Jermaine Jenas isn't on GG!) so apologies to any who this might annoy.. However I would dearly like to see slithering room on these issues removed, for past, current and future cheats and cronies. :-#

Good post.

That blog is a superb piece of investigation and workmanship. This whole saga is disturbing for its murkiness. I always hope the truth outs in cases like this, but considering the political context (ie the shameless snake of a politician Salmond) and the nature of the press (which has only served to cover up this mess)I am not especially optimistic. Worse still is that the UK taxpayer may get completely ripped off.

A pound coin was thrown onto the pitch at Ibrox. Police are trying to determine whether it was a missile or a takeover bid.

This is now officially karma for them helping out the Scum 102 years ago.

"The shares formed a historic link between the two clubs dating back 102 years when Arsenal had their own money problems.
It’s believed Rangers attempted to help out by buying two shares in *Woolwich Arsenal because their manager, George Morrell, had previously worked for the Ibrox club.
Around 20 years later, a resurgent Arsenal gifted Rangers a further 14 shares in return for their support."

I never knew that always disliked Rangers but that just puts it over the top for me fudge them

Wow, what a weird twist on this story. Certainly, actually cashing in on something so old and so much part of Rangers' history seems particularly scummy. Kinda against the spirit of how these things work.

granted not real life (probably more, i should get a life)
but just got to 2036 on FM and the Arse got relegated - made me smile!

Rangers director fears the end

King thinks liquidation for Ibrox club is 'inevitable'

Last Updated: March 7, 2012 10:48am

South Africa-based King, the only survivor from the Sir David Murray era on the board, has also announced his intention to sue the former Rangers owner.

At the same time, King has criticised current Ibrox chief Craig Whyte after the Scottish Premier League champions entered administration in February.

In a 1200-word statement, King said: "I do not believe that there is a reasonable prospect that the company can come out of administration. I believe that liquidation is inevitable."

I wouldnt take a 75% wage cut EVER.

Is this a deffered wage cut i.e. wages will be paid but as an IOU and paid at a later date?

I just don't like them 'cos of their '80s link with Chelsea (remember ALL THOSE HALF-AND-HALF BOBBLE HATS...? yeah ya do!)

But this ArseAnal link sinks them to new depths...

...actually, I'm with the old school way of thinking that (the same as if it happened to ArseAnal) wouldn't actually want them to cease to exist... club rivalry is based on at least TWO clubs existing!
...but a decade of lower league suffering would do very nicely... put their spoilt fans back on the ground too while they're at it! (actually, I'm just talking about ArseAnal now... forgot this thread was even about Rangers!)

Didn't say that Celtic were just as bad.

Mainly, I just find their fans unbearable. I'm not even talking about the bigots and IRA supporters among their number. I'm talking more about the poisonous mix of paranoia, victim mentality, arrogance and self satisfaction that is so prevalent. As evident in this thread, they are forever trying to convince everyone that everything about their club is nigh on perfect and that everything about Rangers is pure evil; they are the best fans in the world; they would be the biggest club in the world if they weren't in Scotland; all of them are kind to grannies and kittens, while Rangers fans beat grannies and eat kittens blah, blah.... So repetitive. So predictable. So tedious.

Scottish football's version of Liverpool then?

How absurd is it that clubs budget the entire organisation assuming they will be in the Champions League every season? And if they don't get in, this is what happens. Something has to change. Salary caps will be brought in to football eventually, mark my words.

I'd be delighted if Arsenal went bust.

Yes, I'd miss the NLD and I'd feel sorry for a small minority of their supporters, but it would be worth it. It would be a better game without them.

Nah. I want to see pain. Death is too easy.

(Edit: I just reread that post. I'm talking metaphorically of course or am I muhahahaha)

I'd feel genuinely feel sorry for my family members who are gooners and are really passionate fans, my uncle has been a season ticket holder there for about 25 years. I'd also feel sorry for a few of my close friends who are gooners, other than that I'd be delighted if they went bust!

exactly... Fred West got off too easy by killing himself... people want to see suffering, not an easy get-out clause... if we wait long enough, ArseAnal will get what's coming, and we can enjoy watching them suffer like the rest of them (and at our expense hopefully!)

...but to see them die and go out of existence... nah, much as I hate them, I wanna go ON hating them... not see them re-invent themselves as some kind of 'Peoples Phoenix Club' that everyone has begrudging soft spot for... fudge that, the English always root for the underdog and hate the winners... I'd rather ArseAnal stay on their self-imposed pedal stool for us ALL to knock them down from! Let them stay put, but suffer a few drab, mid-table seasons rather than going bust and having to work their way through the League Pyramid... besides, the NORTH LONDON DERBY just wouldn't be the same if it were ArseAnal v Barnet!!!

This is SO ridiculously hypothetical, I realise... but this is just my simple humble opinion, you understand!!
