*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Everton (Goodison Park, Sun 3rd Nov @ 13:30) ***

Just back from Goodison, via the local Harvester for a burger.

Really good first half from us, could have done without the HT break tbh, felt it broke our momentum. Think we let Everton back into it after the break sitting deeper rather than them pushing us back, and in the end 0-0 was just about right.

Big shout for Hugo, what a hero. Lewis ran his little socks off, and credit to Sandro,Daws and Chiriches for keeping Lukaku quiet, especially the first haf where I think he touched the ball more in his area than ours.

Finally, top top support from the travelling Spurs fans, hardly stopped all match

Are there any experts on here then? I wasn't talking about me taking on Richard Dawkins in a debate about evolution. What you're doing there is taking the discussion out of context. My comment was based on the context of a message board, full of fans of the same club. Our qualifications for commenting in this thread being that we had just watched the same game of football. So as long as it's not directly aimed at someone else then it's fine in your view? Whatever. I think the honest thing is to actually direct the criticism, however harsh, directly and thus giving the person I disagree with the chance to defend their opinion if they so please. Like you now are doing. Feel free to stick to sarcastic criticism not aimed at the people you disagree with if you feel that's the better approach.

You offered no context in your post. Your statement was generalized, I can't read your mind. My reply took your opinion to the next, to me obvious, level as it was the quickest way of showing why I disagreed with what you wrote.

I've already stated clearly that I think ridiculous opinions sometimes deserve to be treated with ridicule. That however doesn't meant that I "read posts to decide if I should ridicule them". I think my post count and the relative rarity of discussions like this should illustrate this quite clearly.

A fine result today considering all the pieces still waiting to click in that final third…even you would have to agree with that, right? Right? ;)

Holtby for his energy and verve was great, but we still need a natural link-player for Soldado in that position, and I still feel had Sigurdsson started the game, we might well have fashioned them early on. Having said that, Holtby was part of the verve and drive of that first-half…who'd be a manager! I'd personally still have started with Sig and concluded with Holtby, but whatever, good job all round and it is fitting that we come away from Goodison feeling a bit peeved it was only one point and not the three we deserved…

p.s. ANOTHER clean sheet! Is this a record for us?

its Ade i'm not so sure about...If he played more like he did against chelsea ...that would merit a worth player...its not going to happen..is it?

I just cant understand players sometimes!!!..star players..being paid millions and they cannot be more threatening to the opposition...

And give the lad credit, he laughed and acknowledged it. THAT was a GREAT moment to illustrate what this game (at it's very best) can bring in terms of fun and banter.
 
To those saying Soldado had no chances. He did. Two at least. One Lennon put right on his head and his weak unchallenged header went wide. His shot and turn on the edge of the box flew miles over. On neither occasion did he work the keeper. I know he is existing on scraps, but I am disappointed with his end product, so far. He just doesn't look deadly.

If AVBs plan was to play inverted wingers all along then I don't think Soldado is right for this formation and set up.

We have to start finding the right combinations up front. Holtby looks better with Defoe and Eriksen and Siggi with Soldado. Lets go with one or the other and try to establish some sort of rapport with our AM and CF.

I am a big fan of Soldado, and feel we need to still play him in quicker and have better link-play with him, but I do agree that he didn't have his best game today. Yup, I think Siggy and Soldado link well and it's a combo Id like to see…

Everton lost once at home all of last season and they're undefeated at home so far this season. The only team to beat them at Goodison last season were Chelsea, who went on to lose there this season.

So which teams can be said to have aspirations of top 4 or winning trophies based on your definition of what it takes?

Would a draw have been acceptable to you if Chelsea and Liverpool had won this weekend?

Come on you are much too good a poster to come up with a weak argument like that. So what if they lost 1 last season and beat Chelsea at home this season? Do you think they will never lose at home? Should we always go there and aim to draw? Those fans who say I am being negative should remember that for the last 2 seasons we have missed champions league by one point. I'm sure those fans will be gutted if we miss out again and the potential effect it has on our club. We have an ambitious chairman, a great set up it's up to the team to perform. Holding on for dear life for a draw against a non top 4 team when we have 11 vs 11 is not a good result anymore unless we want to fail again at the end of the season. We spent 100 million in the summer irrespective of what the balance sheet says. That showed ambition otherwise we would have banked the money on the new stadium. Yes the team needs to gel but the frailties in attack have been there for a season and half and we do not seem currently capable of overcoming them.

It's not aiming, but expecting. We can't expect to win away at any of the other top 8 sides (possible exception for Southampton, but even there it's tough to EXPECT a win).

Today we got one point at a ground we've lost the previous two seasons.
 
I'm not satisfied with a draw today. We were the better team and they had something of an off day - winning games like that is what makes you top 3 as opposed to struggling for 4th. Not criticising AVB or the players, just think we should have won.

Like everyone else I am baffled by our lack of guile, inter-passing, through balls, runs in the channels, 1-2's etc. in the final 3rd. Soldado's goal last week was a rare, rare example of what I think should be happening but for some reason isn't. I'd say AVB is frustrated that we can't make this click yet.

I'm repeating myself from earlier today, not sure if that was in a reply to you or to someone else though. There's a difference between what the club aims for and what we accept as the outcome.

Of course the team should go out looking to win, but that doesn't mean that if they don't succeed we as fans should be saying that this isn't good enough.

As for my comparison with other teams I think that's perfectly valid. 4 teams finished in the top 4 last season, only one of them beat Everton at Goodison. Surely the other 3 were top 4 candidates. From that I think it's safe to say that you can be a top 4 candidate despite not beating Everton at Goodison.

Everton could have gone second today, and we yet we picked up that missing point from last season.

We've had a good day today.
