Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

I saw the last 30mins of the Pool/Swansea game the other day and Swansea were totally on top in that half an hour. Considering a Liverpool player got MOM I'm guessing the first half it was Liverpool on top. Did Liverpool's fall off coincide with Coutinho's withdrawal?

Actually what I'm really asking is this injury going to **** them up?

Basically yes.. Coutinho is the one that really makes them tick.. They do not have another like for like and I know they will have Suárez to come back in but i think they will now drop off the pace a little.. Both Suárez and Sturridge like to be the main man so it will mean pushing one wide which isn't ideal for them.

Liverpool were on top and quite dominant for about 25 minutes at the start of the game, after that Swansea took over more and more.

Liverpool started losing their grip on the game before Coutinho went off with an injury. Certainly it wouldn't have helped, but he's more of a final third player and not that involved in keeping possession deeper and playing through the first bit of pressure. Something Liverpool struggled immensely with as the game progressed against Swansea.

I think their problems were more down to their centre backs being so poor on the ball. Skrtel has always been average at best on the ball, I don't know if nerves were to blame, but Sakho looked completely lost as well. Wisdom at right back didn't help either. Without a back for that could recycle possession they were just pressed to death by an impressive looking Swansea side.

I think something similar would have happened with Coutinho on the pitch, but those few times where Liverpool did get through that initial pressure Coutinho might have been able to create something in the space that was then available.

His injury will present them with a problem, but more in terms of creating chances, not dominating games.

Cheers.

Also the bench is devoid of any real quality IMO. Sterling hasn't really progressed in the way his early form promised. Aspas, meh. Injuries to the Liverpool first 11 are really gonna hurt them.

I think it's only natural for a high pressing style to sap your strength as the game wears on, unless you are blessed all over the pitch in terms of stamina (this is not Coutinho). Liverpool seem to be wearing themselves out with their initial high-tempo domination of the game to try to score early - kinda the opposite of us last season, where we were looking to 'control' and shut out the game in the first half, then push for the goal in the second (of course this might just be desperation + SuperBale lol).

I'm not going to comment on Aspas or Sakho since they're so new to this league, it'd be a bit unfair and certainly Aspas's stats in La Liga were pretty impressive. Suarez's aggression will help on the pressing side. However I do think they are very, very fortunate to not have Europe this season, because I can see them tiring later on this season the way we did under Harry when we went on that crazy winning streak and then promptly collapsed in spring. I don't think that was entirely mental, I think it was the natural physical toll on a team with a strong first XI but perhaps not that much depth.

I worry for us in the FB positions and what the hell we're going to do without Eriksen (pray Carroll becomes a GHod at QPR), but we are still doing better on the depth front and under AVB, actually seem to get better as the season goes on.

Maybe my dislike for them is blinding me a bit, but I don't see them being a major threat to us this season. One player has scored 4 out of their 5 goals. Suarez is world class and Coutinho could potentially become world class, but look at their midfield. Gerrard hasn't been Gerrard for 5 years, Henderson is average, Lucas is decent but he's not in Sandro's class. I'll be absolutely gutted if we finish below them because I believe our squad is significantly better than theirs.

Nobody else does meltdowns quite like RAWK

And as usual the opposition were poor, Liverpool (or insert any other team) were worse, didn't even try, lacked effort etc.

Mayby now everyone will stop the overboard ****ing thats been going on the last few weeks.

I think most praise for Liverpool has been accompanied by an acknowledgement that their squad is paper thin beyond the first team. No coutinho and their entire passing game looks to have devolved back into the mess it was at the start of last season, and what's worse is there's no suarez to bail them out with a moment of magic and they don't even have the players to play a secondary system even if Rogers wanted to. Their tactic at this point appears to be rely on a free kick from Gerrard.

Yes, Liverpool have got a very good first XI but the cracks begin to show very quickly as soon as they get an injury or two.

They will struggle to get a Top Six finish this season.

Like AFC they have a very good first eleven but are 2 or 3 key injuries away from not being that much...

Were different in that aspect and over a long season it should play into our hands

They've been without their only superstar all season so far and he'll be back soon. They've also been without a couple of other starting regulars here and there in Johnson, Toure and Agger. Yet they've picked up 10 points in 5 games.

I don't think their squad is as thin as it's being made out to be. Yes they have one or two key players they need on the pitch, much like us last season, but it's not like they can't handle an injury or two.

They will be dangerous this year, with or with out Suarez. Some of the football they played last season was breathtakingly fast and fluid. And with Coutinho and Sturridge now fully settled into the side, they'll have no trouble scoring goals.

Conceding them, however: that will be the facet of their play that brings them down this season. Agger and Skrtel have both stagnated as footballers, I'm not even going to mention Toure, and a lot will depend on how Lucas shields the central defense. Don't think he'll be able to keep it up the whole season, so ultimately they'll probably finish 6th. Probably give us an extremely difficult game or two, though.

Agreed. We underestimate the red scum at our peril.
