We blew it!

Quite right, apologies, you caught me dreaming for a moment there.

I still think that some people are more interested in being proved right in an internet argument than in how Spurs do.[/QUOTE]

oh for sure.

I don't think we blew it, getting 72 pts and finishing 5th when 68-70 is enough to get into the top 4 pretty much every season just sums up our luck tbh.

For pity sake.

1 goal. 1 bloody goal would have changed it.

Any game we drew unexpectedly, or even Saudi Sportswashing Machine scoring yesterday, would have reversed things.

How the hell is that lacking class?

FFS

I look at this team and see one of the best we've had in my 20-something years as a supporter.

I can't quite figure out where these ridiculous expectations some people have are coming from. We are not Manchester United or Chelsea. We don't have their financial resources, but we still manage to be up there.

Can I put this question to the forum?

Do people not think that goals/expectations change as the season goes on? I remember when we drew at Highbury in 2006. A story emerged that the players were told in the dressing room that we had qualified for Europe, no one celebrated as the players were desperate to get the 4th spot. Now I don't think many people would have tipped us for 4th at the beginning of that season either.

We had a 7 point lead in March and a psychological advantage over Arsenal as we had just beaten them. I seem to remember cautious optimism from most Spurs fans that AVB wouldn't allow the team/himself to make the same mistakes that cost us so dearly under Arry, we now had a manager who was far better tactically than Arry, and most importantly, a manager who was 100% focused on the job unlike Arry.

They still made up a 7 point lead on us at a late stage in the season, and this is an Arsenal team with not even 1 world class player.

yes i do but at no point this season have i thought - "we're by far and away the 4th best side in the country and should be finishing 4th as a minimum" we built up a 7 point gap, but you only had to look at the two sides remaining fixtures to see that the gap was always likely to shorten. think i remember saying in the Arsenal OMT that i felt we needed to win and extend the gap to 7 points to have any chance of finishing 4th as their remaining games were far 'easier' than ours - we have kept up our seasonal average in points return since that game, they've just managed to conjure up a run of title winning form right at the death.

oh yeah..I agree we were dead unlucky....but we had Bale to help us out big time..as has been noted hear ...

our midfield lacked a player with insight! ie a modric..our strikers were brick..and our defence made some blunders..

ie..just pointing out the facts...we did brilliantly for what we had...I have to say though. I'm somewhat desapointed that Defoe and Adebyour blew more cold tham hot!

We had an amazing player that helped us win games?

How the fudge is that a negative thing.

one goal in 6,840+ minutes of football. Them's the breaks...

yes we blew it.
but we also scored some outstanding achievements.
that's football. now just deal with it.

Without a doubt.
I have to go back 30 years to remember when it was this good. Even the FA cup winners of 91 were not in this league.

Doesn't stop my disappointment at yesterday, but I know how good things currently are.

We only have ourselves to blame for not getting in the top four. We dropped a lot of points against bottom half teams, losing at home to Fulham and Wigan, and only drawing with Stoke, Norwich and West Brom (yes yes, I know WB finished eighth but we should be beating them at home). The difference between us and the scum this year is they beat the crap teams and we didn't, it's as simple as that. Still, we set a club record points total in the PL era for which we can be proud. As long as we buy some top quality strikers, and a central midfielder with a bit of magic who can unlock a packed defence, I see no reason why we can't finish above the scum because I believe man for man we are better, they just have the edge on us in terms of mentality.

threw it all away :(

THIS. While it is a disappointment to not get CL (we got 4th last year and that didn't get it), we got more points than we ever have in the PL. I believe we will strengthen in the summer and we will kick on from our 'mistakes' ofthis year. COYS!!!!

That hasn't happened since we made CL in the 09/10 season so not holding my breath.

I'm going to chime in again and say I'm not having ago at out our club, I'm proud of what we have managed to achieve this season, but champions league was in our grasp and we slipped up by losing some vital games and we finished 4th the season before! So frustrating.

Never mind, I believe next season we will have a stronger outfit and we will be able to keep up with the momentum. AVB is the man to take us to the top.

Table also shows how shocking we were defensively, mostly after the Arsenal game.

Arsenal showed title winning form, you'd have to think that with other clubs around them getting new managers, a strong start for them could be on the cards. I mean, you could say the same about us too.

But similarly I could say that the only reason we're this close is due to Arsenal, Chelsea and City all slipping up at various points this season.
