OMT*** Tottenham vs West Ham ***

I think we'll be needing the big units for this one;

I'm tempted to go with this side:

Lloris

Walker Dawson Caulker Verts
Dembele Parker
Lennon Dempsey Bale
Ade

I think we need fighters, and if Parker can't play decently in this match he never will!

Holtby and BAE to come on later if need be, but I think they're more likely going to start against the Goons; at least BAE will.

COYS, let's smash the Spammers!

Same back four as the home game. I would like to punish BAE in some way for his performance against Lyon but he is so laid back he would probably take getting dropped as a bonus!

Really miss JD for this game!

Punish him for what? Because he wasted a few opportunities in the final third? At least he was getting into those positions, Naughton's never been that high up the pitch in his Spurs career,

Would like to see Sign given a start, needs some gametime and think a bit of his guile would be useful.

Would be epic if we could win absolutely epic.

Actually I think this is an absolute MUST WIN for us now! Goons right on our tails Everton falling away will make that lot think 'of course, this is our time now'..

I hope AVB has us starting strong because this will not be a game for any sluggish passengers; it'll be their cup final after all

Yup, it's MUST win otherwise Arsenal will be able to overtake us should they win next Sunday. I happen to think we'll beat Arsenal 3-0, I thought Arsenal would beat us 5-1 earlier in the season, so perhaps 3-1 to us will come in.

But we can't risk any chance that Arsenal will have this ability to overtake us as motivation for their performance next Sunday.

Bale must be contained - Sam
Saturday 23rd February 2013 13:45

Sam Allardyce believes West Ham will have a greater chance of beating Tottenham on Monday if they can stop Gareth Bale lighting up Upton Park.

The Welsh winger has been in scintillating form for Spurs this season, already scoring 17 goals and hauling Andre Villas-Boas' side out of trouble on more than one occasion.

Allardyce saw his side lose 3-1 at White Hart Lane in November, with Bale's name on the scoresheet and a Jermain Defoe brace proving enough for Spurs to take the points.

Although Allardyce is aware of the numerous attacking options at Villas-Boas' disposal he knows Bale is more than likely the man who can inspire Spurs to get a result.

"They've been very good," the 58-year-old said of Spurs' season.

"The team from an attacking point of view has been outstanding, Recently they've lost their leading goalscorer, who is Jermain Defoe, and (Emmanuel) Adebayor has been away at the Africa Cup of Nations, so from a goalscoring point of view they've had to rely on one man and one man only to come up with the goods.

"That's Gareth Bale and he's been the major difference between Tottenham and the teams they've played recently.

"Not only has he scored very important goals, but they've been stunning goals at that. He's going to need some looking after on Monday night."

Clint Dempsey, Lewis Holtby, Aaron Lennon and Mousa Dembele are all capable of popping up with goals for Spurs but Allardyce is keen for the club's fans to get behind his players, who he believes are more than able to provide moments of magic themselves.

He said: "If we can do that we nullify a threat that Tottenham have. Of course [Aaron] Lennon is a threat down the other side, but he doesn't quite score as many goals as Gareth Bale.

"We're not sure yet whether Jermain Defoe will be fit, but certainly we've got to cope with that strike force.

"Our home form has been excellent all season and so we're going to hopefully make sure Tottenham worry about us for a long period of time on Monday night, rather than us worry about them too much."

Hammers defender James Collins is in contention to make his return from a hamstring injury against Spurs and the Wales international admits the squad have discussed the threat of Bale, making comparisons between his countryman and some of the Barclays Premier League's best players.

"He is on fire but he has been terrific all season for them. It is a tough one," he said.

"I was speaking with Mark Noble the other day about [Robin] van Persie, we said he is the sort of player, that if he is going to score he will, Gareth is similar in that respect.

"We know like other teams, you have to be on your toes with a player like Gareth, he is one of the best players in the Premier League at the moment.

"But as a team we will go into this game with confidence, we know what we can do at home and will be giving it a right go, to get those three points."

It looks like West Ham will have special plan for Bale. Other players like Dembele, Lennon, Adebayor or Dempsey will need to step up and win the game for us.

Would not mind seeing this team:

------------------ Lloris -----------------
Walker -- Caulker -- Daws -- BAE
--------- Dembele -- Verts -----------
Lennon -------- Bale -------- Holtby
-------------- Adebayor ----------------

IMO Parker doesnt merit starting, he lacks any sort of creativity, stays well away from the attacking third, slows down our play, and certainly isnt getting as stuck in as he use to, Vertonghen is more than comfortable at playing at CDM, he's strong, consistently has a pass completition of +90%, is a much bigger goal threat than parker, and has a verocious shot on him...

Parker must start this game it's Taylor made for him, Verts in midfield I just can't see it.

I think I've been very critical of Parker but the thing we criticise him for most is his use of the ball. Next to Modric he was great at recycling it and moving it to Luka and Rafa ASAP. Now the onus, he feels, falls on himself. Really it's probably Dembele that struggles to shift the ball quick enough to our players who can do real damage. Parkersgame probably hasn't changed much at all, only his weaknesses now are highlighted

I think pass rate is potentially misleading, especially when comparing between players who operate in different positions on the field.

Vertonghen may have easier passes to make as there is likely to be less pressure on him when he delivers the pass. As a defender, the opposition are more inclined to close down the midfielders and strikers. Vertonghen may also be making safer passes, including distributing the ball between the defence and less likely to try to pull off those probing through passes which, if delivered accurately, can be devastating but often have a high fail rate. Vertonghen can score goals but he hasn't been a prolific scorer this season, he's certainly scored less goals than I had anticipated. I think too that he is an excellent centre back and, I know I have advocated a possible defensive midfield role for him but now I am starting to think that players should be selected in the role that they best perform and, for JV, that's centre back.

We need to see the Parker that West Ham had, he seemed to be a player with plenty of drive but we haven't seen that yet. He seemed to score more often for West Ham, perhaps that's because his role was different or he was more integral to the success of the team, I don't know. But, whilst I would be happy for Parker to move on in the summer, and think he should never have been recognised as our 'Player of the Year', I think he has more to offer in his role than any of those competing with him for a place in the first team. I think we need to upgrade over the summer, but it will be difficult given that whichever player comes in, he will know that he will most likely play second fiddle to Sandro.

Another factor that I think detracts from what Parker does offer is that we have been spoiled this season by Sandro's excellent displays. No matter how good Parker is, he won't replace Sandro, and consequently he probably receives a level of criticism which isn't always fair.

Spot on!

This. He is exactly the kind of player we'll need against the Spammers, being an old boy as well. If he doesn't play it's more likely they'll dominate us in the centre, which we cannot afford. In fact that will be more of a problem at Upton Park than them parking the bus. No Parker, they'll attack us more, which I really don't want to see.

This fixture always reminds me of that famous game way back, this song and Stalteri's late winner! I would be happy for a similar repeat, nothing like a fantastic come back and to seal it off with a late winner... yes, nervous, difficult but the pay off is immense, going crazy over an important three points! :D

4th place 99.99% guaranteed to give ECL football next term so this game is not a must win but a must not lose just like next week's NLD.

But after the Lyon games I am looking to be entertained. I hope we get an early goal and a repeat of the Saudi Sportswashing Machine first quarter only keeping it going for most of the game.
