Really don't think it's a striker issue. Our midfield are horribly slow at moving the ball. Getting any sort of service to Lennon and Bale let alone Ade is shocking right now. We miss Modric massively.

Today it was not a Striker issue.

However previous games have been Striker issues.

Can't stop watching the goal. One thing I've noticed though is how all of our players go nuts except for Ade who's thinking "Ahh brick, more games to play now".

Come on there were several games last season where Modric played and we failed to break sides down. What we lack is a clinical striker imo

I think it's a little of both. Ade and Defoe could be reinvigorated by a fresh player who gets the ball moving quickly. Was hoping Holtby, and still do, is that man. But we do lack a Joao Moutinho!

I think I'll just continue with this reverse psychology stuff

Wife turns to me and says How much added time do you think there will be?

I replies, There could be 15mins and it still wouldnt matter, we arent scoring tonight.

No word of a lie, within 5 seconds Moussa has equalised. Absolutely unreal.

And from being a team that couldnt score in the last 15mins of a match, we are becoming the new masters of that art.

Well done Spurs.

I think this is very accurate. I rated Lennon as a 5 in the other thread but Parker and Dembele were so slow to pass that it was probably harsh. Bale was free in one instance but by the time Dembele saw him the chance was well gone. Ade didnt have a single shot on goal which you want to blame him for but where was the service. And for the service you have to look at how quickly we got the ball wide.

I think we really miss Sandro.

Agreed wholeheartedly. His ability to nearly always win the ball back and get it moving in one swift motion (as opposed to Parker's ten touches per pass) inspired confidence in the rest of the team. The wing-backs pushed forward more aggressively, we made more forward runs off the ball...hell, he even joined in on occasion, with those long, galloping runs down the outside-right. With Parker, everything's slowed down, and the team as a whole is a lot more cautious, recognising that Parker can't provide the kind of protection and stimulation that Sandro could. Playing Lloris partly negates that cautiousness (his sweeper-keeper-ing allows us to push up with ease, and thus gives us a greater attacking thrust), but when Friedel's playing, the attacking reluctance we have is displayed in full.

What we lack in moving the ball quickly we have got back in being more solid which imo gives us the opportunity to get the crucial late goals. The problem today was not imo about a system failing but too many players performing below par.

This.
What some of our supporters expect, away to CL opposition, is beyond me. brick first-half, much improved second-half, at least two clear-cut chances missed, two more excellent half-chances, pressure and eventually the goal. You have to wonder what people expect...I think it was a fine second-half. Again, for me, the Livermore on-Parker off was critical...

This thread has been all kinds of pathetic tonight.

The subs won us the game. Holtby wasn't up to it tonight and Deuce and Sigg made the space for Dembele to score. Clint went close and Ade set up 2 great chances and the 2 of them working together helped eat up the last 4 minutes to cancel any chance of a Lyon comeback
Apart from a couple of great shots and that great run not much of a contribution from Gareth and loads of misplaced passes just like every one of our players.
If I could get hold of Benny I would strangle him to within an inch of his life and if Dembele had not scored he would have been next in line.
I thought we got a great 80 minutes yet again out of Scotty. He made mistakes but less than others. Lennon was poor.
Brad OK, Verts good.
I don't think we were lucky. we were creating chances and if you are creating chances you will get a reward.
As Beglin said we were the better footballing side but hand on heart Lyon should have had this tie sewn up in the 1st half.
Well done Spurs, well done AVB.

Thank you, I take my fair share of responsibility for this tonight! I'm pretty certain I said I don't want to see Walker in a spurs shirt again, Dembele, Parker, Ekotto were brick.

Upon reflection, I still think these things!
