O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

He likes a challenge

Chelsea hadnt won title for 50 years
Inter were in the doldrums
Madrid been in Barca's shadow

He always talked us up saying we are a proper proper football club and how he loved the fans and the stadium

i wouldn't say any of the jobs he has taken shows he likes a challenge !

Chelsea - Russian billionaire owner ready to unload vast sums of money for short term success
Inter - just about every other side in Italy had been impeached in match fixing scandals leaving the door wide open for inter to romp to the title
Real - vast sums of money to spend and managing the biggest club in history

(that's not to say im belittling what he achieved at these clubs btw, just that he wasn't going for the challenge - if anything he was going for the easy life at two and the other being Real)

Mourinho will go to City after Mancini leaves having lost the tiitle to Utd

Why would he choose us instead? Just out of interest

He'd be able to build his own squad if he came to us, well mostly. We would be able to give him money, we have space in our wage budget and with him here we would be an attractive prospect for players.

Emirates Marketing Project are currently trying to meet financial fair play rules and are so far off that it is funny, they have a full squad so he would have to sell some of their overpriced overpaid footballers in order to build his squad.

We don't have a quarter of those club's turnover. We cannot afford 6-figure wages. We are still limited financially compared to the G-14.

A challenge in a bank-rolled club, yes

My Turkish mate absolutely hates Hiddink from his time at Turkey.. I brought up his record at other nations and he wasn't having it, apparently the turkish fans hate their managers as much as we have hated most of ours!!

I think it was to do with his flirting with Chelsea during an important campaign that caused the rift. The man said he's never walked from a job but it didn't stop him wanting to move (reportedly), it was a huge let down because he was brought in with big hopes and had experience in Turkey (Fenerbahce).

Mass suicide

A myth born on this board and perpetuated after every article mentioning him leaving. He'll never come to us - that's like him taking on Sevilla or Valencia in Spain or Napoli in Serie A

fudging gooners, you just love to slag our club off
:-"

I have no expectation he would join us, but I can see that it might appeal to him and his ego.

We have that sleeping giant status that should he "wake us up" he would get legendary status
We arent actually far from the top teams in quality, so its perhaps not as great a deal as appears
We have simple benefits like being in London (where no doubt he still keeps a home)
We pay well and have money to spend (albeit not at his usual level. Though thinking about it, I dont recall Inter spending big)
the squad we have is excellent, a couple of key buys and his management and it could step up several degrees...

They'd won the title three years running before Mourhino took over.

Agree about Madrid though, they may be loaded but trying to overhaul Barcelona is still a big challenge.

Arry : " Dan I've been offered the England job and I want to take it"

Levy " Sorry you are not going"

Arry " But we had a gentlemens agreement that I could go if the England job came up"

Levy " That was the same type of gentlemens agreement I had with Luka" O:)
