Gallas

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

Terrible over the ball challenge, would be screaming if it was to one of ours all though I suppose Gallas and Van Persie have a bit of history. Did any one see Van Persie look up at him as if he had just slept with his wife or something?

Terrible? No it weren't! It was a throwback to yesteryear and a quality challenge.

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

If it had been Ferdinand on Defoe I would have been screaming but it wasn't, top work Willie. Exactly what was needed, welcome to the game.

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

I was cheering my head off when I saw that, absolute cruncher. Would have looked like a fool if he missed though, given that it was in the penalty area

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

Sometimes its good to show a bit of bite.

They dont like it up em Captain Mainwaring

Just like Flamini's on corluka?
Tbf I hate the non contact progression of the sport as much as anyone but, sometimes there's a reason some tackles are fouls although It was nice to see. In the nicest and least sadistic way possible.

The two were nothing alike, ridiculous comparison.

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

Don't think I'd go so far as to say it was a perfectly clean tackle... More of a "touched the ball and went trough the man tackle"

He went for the ball and got the ball, the follow through was inevitable. I would understand the uproar if it was high and/or two footed, but it was neither.

The Chelsea connection?

Beginning to wonder if you actually saw the tackle? Did you really just make that comparison? Gallas got the ball and his follow thru caught the player.

I know that commentators always go on about getting the ball but I do not think that this is in the rules. I think the rule is about whether you are in control of the challenge and that decision could easily have been given against Gallas.

Indeed, but that's why this was good as Gallas did not 'jump in' he slid with force, purpose and direction. ;-)

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

I can honestly say I would have no complaints if that challenge was made on one of our players. Wasn't two footed and got the ball

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

Perfectly legal tackle. A real belter. An old fashioned reducer. How many times have we seen this sort of tackle on Bale, Lennon, Defoe etc.

Well played Sir William

agreed and also Flamini's on corluka was around midfield and fairly unnecesarry wasn't it? Miles away from a goal saving last ditch tackle in our penalty area

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

If people think that tackle was a foul then they don't understand the rules of football

Re: Gallas & Van Persie...

This thread should be saved in Classics for future reference of similar tackles against our players in the opponent's box
