Ratings v Norwich

There are two reactions after a game like that. Moan like fudge at the world in general, or try and see the positives in the situation. Plenty of both reactions on here, just as there are diverse views on individual players - personally I thought Assou Ekotto looks dodgy defensively as often as he is brilliant, but there you go. Unfortunately it is clear that the new players will take time to bed in. Also clear that Ade needs to start, and that Dembele is a great buy.

I feel that we are less than the sum of our parts so far this season: it's almost as if we need a couple of wins for the flair players (Bale) to start delivering. It's far too early to write the season off, but expectations have to get more realistic. We have been spoiled by having a Modric and now we may have to accept that we simply will not be as good as we were.

Why not sack him now and bring Harry back? We've given him mountains of support, and masses of time; he's proven brick. 270 minutes, and he can't even get us to score more than one goal at home against a team we battered at the Lane last season.

Oh, wait....we lost last season? Against Norwich? At home? under HARRY? The mighty, mighty Harry, he of unmatched skill and finesse? Why, you don't say.

Spursalot nailed it; this place is silly. Bipolar, even.

That comparison with Norwich under Harry is the worst kind of selectivism. Harry had proven himself, so it was comparatively worse because we were in such a strong position. But to play the comparison game we drew and hammered Toon last year (lost to them already) and beat WBA twice (drew). Such comparisons offer nothing, the context matters, and at the moment AVB has not extracted any kind of performance that we can be optimistic about the future.

It's not the results, it's the quality of the performances and the bizarre team selections and substitutions that are worrying. You can't tell me that if these kind of performances carry on up to Christmas that you won't be questioning AVB as our manager?

I don't expect him to. I expect performances to gradually improve as the season continues. Three games is an minute sample to extract a meaningful prediction of our performances from. Again, if that were the case, why not judge Harry on his end of season slump?

I agree with you on both counts, despite some misreading my position. My concern today is about the performance, I expected more energy.

I'm not entirely happy, but it's in no way as bad as a lot of people are trying to make out.

Mate, where you there? I was.
It was bloody clueless. We genuinely look like a team devoid of ideas.

I was very pro AVB when he came in, but am already doubting his ability. Defoe was awful.

That will come. Saudi Sportswashing Machine away, we looked hungry and energetic for the first sixty-odd minutes. Closed them down, forced errors, hounded the ball. We will get that back once the squad is fully focused and has some decent training time under their belts, as opposed to worrying about who might be coming and who might be going, and being coached by a manager whose mind is on other things.

Are the two statements connected? You doubt his ability because Defoe was awful?

If that's the case, mate, I'm sorry to say, Defoe 10/11...:)

Having been to all 3 games so far today was our worst performance, we were far the better team against Saudi Sportswashing Machine and we should have buried WBA in the first half last week.

There is far too much doom and gloom going on at the moment, we are struggling to impose ourselves with the new system and it was always going to take time. What we must not do is turn on the team and for the second week running we had dingdongheads in the crowd giving our players abuse, how the hell these macarons think it is going to help us obtain results when they have dingdongheads booing them every time they get on the ball have no idea.

I understand fans who use message board to complain, moan, bitch about managers and players, however why spend all that money going to a game and spend most of it slagging of the players and team they supposed to support.

Defoe,Siggy,AVB, both full backs tinkle poor, also Livermore should not be a starter, but early days so I will keep the faith.

Friedel - 8 man of the match, did not do anything wrong

Walker - 4 horrible game, no decent runs, poor defending , was completly lost
Gallas - 6. Tries very hard but is too easy to bully around, Holt did it this time, Lukaku the game before
Vertonghen - 6 Tried hard, needs more confidence
BAE - 4 as abysmal as Walker

Sandro - 4 worst game in a long time, one decent run, could not handle the Norwich midfield
Livermore - 3 jesus christ
Sigurdsson - 3 worst game of his career, some decent passes during the first 10 minutes but all pretty bad
Lennon - 5. Good runs, but always on the outside, he cant cross the ball, need to cause more havoc by going on the inside
Bale - 5. Not there today
Defoe - 3 You can not have a lone striker that has no clue how to link up with the rest of the team. Terrible

Subs;

Dembele - 6 come hungry to the field, good goal, tried hard, disapeared a bit after the goal
Ade- 6. needs to start next game, very good link up play, always dangerous.
Hudd - 1. Stupid is too flattering.

AVB - will not judge him yet, needs to push the midfield more up the field or let Sigurðsson drop more into the midfield.

The thing that worries me is that we seem to be getting worse. The positive side is that it can't get much worse than the performance today. But there's a few new players and a whole new system so it's going to take time before we are really up to speed.

Poor match, we need to get som speed and confidence in to the squad.

I think that any new coach who does not win their first three games and playing great football, should be fired immediately. Completely independent of the division, or other things that affect their ability to succeed.

What a nice and enjoyable football world it would be :) (may not be my honest opinion)

spot on

I thought that we looked very good against Saudi Sportswashing Machine and the to lose there was a bit of a freak result.

I think there is a huge amount of pressure to get the first victory, we should have won this game today 2-0 and relief it. Cant wait for Dempsey, think he will add more goal threat

We are getting worse because we're now nervous and under pressure.

Key game was Saudi Sportswashing Machine, we should have won it. Then last week last minute. And today.

Everyone game we'll get worse until we win.

Dont want to single one person out however, as I've been saying for months and been repeatedly shot down for, Livermore isnt close to being a pL player and will end up in league 1. Cant pass, cant tackle, cant shoot. Has heart, size and work-rate however if someone is 20 then its too late to teach them the basics

However most of the blame for today should lie with AVB. Defoe up top on his own makes no sense nor does two defensive midfielders

Just hope that the new guys bed in quickly. Still think we can get 4th as Arse arent appearing great at the moment either

Only players who came out with any credit was Dembele and Friedel (and we've just replaced him). Absolute shambles. Yes Friedel hit it long a lot, but nobody ever dropped deep to receive the ball off him so I can only imagine this is part of AVB's tactical genius.

Livermore is terrible, needed three touches to control the ball only to pass it to a Norwich player.

Sigurdsson. Another one with a terrible touch, and this is our Rafa replacement? Jesus! Not sure what he does? Offered nothing and even his set pieces were brick.

Defoe, extremely poor but what else did we expect from him in that formation with players hitting it long to him? Another stroke of genius from AVB.

No creativity, no leadership and the players reaction when we conceded was pitiful. Only Bale looked like he wanted us to get a winner.
