OMT: European Champions v Brighton - Sunday 25 May

It's mystifying.

What message will we send to managers if we sack the guy who ran the gauntlet to win us something, for some bloke whose qualification is that he's good at treading water in the Premier League?

The message is, 4th-6th place will save you. Winning something will not.

Why would we then expect *anyone* to try to do what Postecoglou did, ever again? They'll just tread water in the league, because it keeps them safe.

Postecoglou gave us the moment we have been begging for, for 17 fudging years. And we'd bin him for someone like Iraola, who's at best a marginally better version of him, without the trophy?

Yes, league form needs to improve. No question. But there is such a thing as soul in football. We found ours after 17 years in the wilderness. For those who want a change, don't be so quick to throw it away again.

The soul bit so resonates with me.
I was convinced we were going to win because of the demeanour of the players, just as the after match today looked like a funeral as they walked around the pitch. They were hurting about losing a meaningless game.
I don't remember Poch team looking like that after the 5-1 drubbing at Saudi Sportswashing Machine on the last day.

Absolutely and I am torn, been contrary and am a hypocrite like anyone.

But come on now........lets not make everyone in football right about us as fans.......we aint snobs............are we???

People need to have the summer off......I think its impacted too many at a mental level IMO

I am taking my own advise, I have cancer screening this week, my old man is in the grasp of dementia and so this is my last post of the summer or for a few weeks........

Up the Spurs........thank fcuk its not my decision to make on the manager

And if I die tomorrow I die happy.......not because of Brighton at home a few days after the EL cup.

Love to you all.............

Great post despite the screening and Dad...here's to a clear screen, here's to all the power returning this summer, and here's to the indescribable joy of moments...and trophies...and CL qualifications.
Best of luck this week mate.

Leaving aside the performance/result I thought the atmosphere in the stadium bowl was totally flat today. Maybe everyone was exhausted from Wednesday and Friday but apart from on the concourse pre game and at half time (the latter being brilliant) it didn’t feel like a party at all. Very disappointing. I speak for the perspective of the north stand where I was disappointed that everyone just sat down and didn’t join in any songs. Couldn’t even hear much from the south apart from occasionally. Felt like a bit of a damp squid to be honest.
I didn’t give a fig about the result.

Take care mate. You're a warrior, and I'm glad your old man has you there for him.

Oh that’s all a huge worry for you and your family. Hope the screening works out ok for you.
Can’t really wish for anything with dementia as it’s a one-way street, except that I hope your dad gets good care and has his family around him. We never really know what goes on in the brain but I do believe that have regular family contact helps keep the effects at bay for a while.
Come back when you feel ready. And keep those memories of this month close to you.

Name one time, just once, any of those clubs followed up a trophy win with being embarrassed like that.

If you can, I’ll pipe down. Otherwise, I expect a big club to behave like a big club.
Not remember our form after the 2008 cup win?

Plenty of other examples of teams fielding a weakened team both before and after cup finals. Of course our weakened team was mostly enforced, but still.

Goal Line Bar was electric before kickoff and first half atmosphere felt good where I was sat (near dugouts) with plenty of singing (albeit not nearly so much as during Bodo/Glimt match) plus every sub getting applauded during their warmups.

However it seemed like we couldn't string 2 passes together after half time and once Brighton equalised and Johnson failed to score his trademark goal the atmosphere was as flat as any other recent PL match as the inevitable defeat loomed.

I hung around for the post match lap of honour but the players then congregated in Southeast corner with Burkinshaw and other legends stood around by the tunnel until they got bored / tired at which point i left.

A good result for us - when all is said and done. Bear with me.

Love Ange. Our most successful manager in decades. But this result probably pushed him out the door. Because with all the elation we forget how porous and ineffective we are. It is for the best that he moves on imo. Let him leave on a high - as our most successful manger of the modern era. What he has done for us getting the trophy monkey off our back and catapulting us into the CL is huge. But we dont want to go into next season with doubts lingering, only to change manger at Xmas.

No Romero, Maddison, Deki, Bissouma...Johnson and Sarr clearly worse for wear...
What are you trying to say here? Why excuse the inexcusable? We just played Brighton reserves at home with pretty much all bar 3 positions filled with our best first XI players. Yes, they players are coming off a final and resulting celebrations, but Brighton reserves had 67% possession, 23 shots and won 4-1 basically looking like they were on a different planet to us. And the Palace home game was similar.

Does it not concern you that in so many recent games we have looked like we are in a lower division to the team we are playing the gulf in quality has been so vast?

There's just a litany of excuses. First, its injuries. Then the injuries clear up its "we've thrown the league" then when we win the Europa its "the players are hung over".

Maybe, just maybe, they're not as good as we think, poorly coached and struggling with awful tactics?

Let's also not forget the not enough games in the first season and the too many games this season excuse.

Regarding the injuries, he has I think admitted that this is what normally happens with him. As an owner would you be happy with £50m assests being broken and out of action for large periods of the season?

impressed with the brighton coach

The football was far from entertaining

Spent enough time on a forum and you'll eventually end up agreeing with someone you never thought you could!
