You would think that he knew there was a possibility that Kane could be off and has been looking at who could step up.

We would need someone to be vice captain anyway if Kane stays. So I wouldn't doubt he is already looking at who could, or could not fill that position.
 
Who are the squad leaders now?

No Kane, no Hugo, Dier a more peripheral figure potentially. Son not really a leader, he's a facilitator more than 'the guy'. Madison could well be Captain. As crazy as it sounds, Romero, though young could well revel and mature given the armband. We're certainally looking to these players now to step up. We have relied on Kane, now a number of players have to mature, step up and take responsibility. We can't fall back on HK any more "you and you and you" have to take responsibility to galvanise and drag this club forward.

If PEH is staying no doubt he is a big asset in that sense too, as is the new keeper. We have a number of latent leaders and now there is space for them to take charge.

For me in order of preferance for new club captain: Romero, Skipp, PEH, Madison, Vicario. Regardless of who gets the armband, I'd look to these players to lead now.

I wouldn't be surprised now if it is Maddison.
He seemed to get a lot of media coverage on the pre season tour (more so than might be expected even for a new signing). And given Ange's words today about how they have been planning for Kane's leaving for a while (so no expectation of him taking on the armband), that building of Maddison's profile with the fans may have been a deliberate move with the captaincy in mind.
Could equally be far-fetched, 2+2=5 stuff on my part. And I don't know how he gets on with the other players behind the scenes.
 
Skipp or Madison. Personally think Skipp is the man. The right coice.

Romero - it would bring passion and be a way to make him mature. But Skipp is the right man for the job imo. The only question mark is if Ange doesn't think he'll be first choice always.

I thought Skipp, but is it too soon? Bentancur and Bissouma could develop as our go to midfield as well. It's obviously got to be someone who is nailed on to play every game, so Romero, Bentancur, Son or Maddison?

I think Bissouma, Maddison, Skipp will be the starting three. Bentancur is a few months away I'd say.

I'm going Bissouma captain, Skipp as VC/Club Capt. The new "one of our own" will be appealing to Ange.
