Harry Kane MBE

More talk today that Kane is refusing any new contract and wants Bayern.

Ali Gold said he's not planning on signing anything this summer but is willing to wait and see how the season goes etc. I suppose that's a bit different from the 'F@@k you I'm outta here this summer' that some on Twitter are spouting

This situation is nuanced but it's not that complicated, and it's as I've been saying.

The narrative as I see it:
Kane would like to go to Bayern this summer. He knows Bayern need to cough up what Levy is asking for; this part is very simple. He has a feeling of his worth, so if no other club offers that value to us, he's fine with sticking around for the last season of this contract.

And yes, the article does mention that there's a chance Kane becomes absolutely enamored with Ange's project and that he eventually signs a new contract. For me, I think there's a 5-10% chance of that happening. I guess you could say the failure he would be Levy's for not trying to continually tie Kane down to a new contract every 2-3 years, but at some point, even with the best offer Levy could put forward, Kane could've just refused to sign a new contract. Last summer was IMO the last chance to get that done, so since then, I've accepted that there's a chance we decide to sell him or release him for nothing at the end of the 23-24 season. BTW, not blaming Levy; just saying that's his responsibility, but can also acknowledge sometimes things are simply out of your hands.

I think thats realistic.

Can't expect Kane to sign a deal this summer given the last few years and where he is in his career

If Bayern make an offer which is acceptable to Levy in the meantime, then fine and Kane can make a decision then about moving overseas

If not, we table a contract offer in a few months. If he accepts then great. If not, we're one of a few clubs competing for his signature next summer. We wont be the richest offer and would rely on him wanting to stay at Spurs (legendary status etc), stay in/around London etc

Levy has managed to tie him down for the last 10 years with continuous improvements to his contract, but even Kanes brother has to cop on at some stage not to sign.

I think we probably will sell Kane.

The conversation the club has with him, probably says: we won't take the risk you might not sign later. You either sign with a fair break clause, with various release clauses and fees based on having CL etc etc so you can exit next summer if things don't work out...or we have to sell you this summer. If Kane says I won't go, then he is putting himself and the club in a difficult position. It could see him stagnate and played from the bench, and would lower his standing. So no one wants that. And it means the club have some leverage. We want a happy win-win. We want Kane and Postecoglou to have some flexibility - neither knows how well they'll get along with the new system. So this is the best scenerio for all concerned and lets everyone try for a year with a fair exit. If not, the clubs hand is forced.

I don't think that will be the case at all. I think we're happy to take the risk on him walking next summer partly because (1) we know how valuable he might be this season on the pitch, (2) we know how valuable he is to our image off the pitcj, particularly in light of us falling down the table recently (he helps us maintain a notion of being a top team) and (3) given he's stayed with Spurs before, we probably (rightly) think that with an offer of say £400k per week next summer we might (not will, but might) be able to counter an offer of say £500k from another team

I doubt very much that a conversation like that has happened. It'll be more along the lines of if we get an offer that meets our valuation then we will discuss it, until then we aren't selling.

It is a fair approach and viable. But it doesn't fit with Postecoglou who has sacked off aging forwards before. Yes Kane is in another class, but no one is bigger than the team and if you listen to Postecoglou he is all about treating players equally. Then we have a Chairman who is not inclined to leave £100m sitting on the mantle piece, when the likelihood is, Kane picks up the £100m or whatever himself when he walks to the highest bidder next summer. There is risk for Kane, but if he does well this season, he will orchestrate the mother of all auctions and will likely be one of the highest-paid players on the planet because there will be no transfer fee.

So put those elements together, along with Postecoglou often playing a hard-working running CF, who's primary job is to close down, then you can see the logic of the above.

I know you keep saying there's a chance Kane will stay, the odds of that are close to zero. The only thing you're clinging onto is that he loves the club and has been here years. That was the case two years ago and he still tried to force a move to Emirates Marketing Project.

Whether it be this season or next season he will be going to a club that competes for the biggest honours, whether that be Bayern this year or someone else next year and us offering a wage close to what others do won't change that. Whilst Kane will obviously look to extract as much money has he can, think it's pretty obvious that's not the main motivation for his next move....

If he stays beyond the summer and then we have a good/great season (top 4 and/or a trophy) then i would be pretty confident in him signing on. My opinion is he would value winning things with Tottenham above all else otherwise he'd have made a concerted effort to leave several years ago.

So with that in mind the odds on him signing on, imv, are the same as they are that we have a good/great season - which i would put a fair bit higher than 'close to zero'

Just can't agree mate, he's looking for somewhere he can finish with big trophies ie domestic titles and potential CLs - an elite player like him with the way he has always spoke about his ambition winning a League cup or FA Cup isn't going to cut it for his CV. He knows almost every top tier club would take him on a free. And he has made an effort to leave us already, only difference now is he is very much in control of the situation.

If you really believe Kane would stay here because we get top 4, or in the belief we might sneak a trophy then whilst you are of course entitled to that opinion I couldn't disagree more....

I mean I've not really suggested that sneaking top 4 or that a trophy would be the limit of his ambitions beyond next season with us at all - more so that a good season now in the new managers first season would go some way to show that we can get ourselves back in the frame for top honors moving forwards.

If Kane thinks we're on to something with Ange off the back of whatever happens next season then i think he's not going to be so quick to walk away

I don't know what the % is, but inevitably it'll be closer to 0% than 100% as there will be a few clubs after him next summer. But look at it this way:

I highly doubt he'll go to either other London club
It sounds like he's not interested in PSG
I dont see him going to Liverpool as its not exactly gauranteed trophies any more
Saudi Sportswashing Machine also won't guarantee trophies within his time frame
Man U will guarantee cash, but can you same about trophies? Not sure....
I dont see him going to Italy for the same reason either (i.e. is a Serie A title really worth it?)

So clubs interested next summer will be whichever of Man C, Real, Barca and Bayern don't have an existing number 9 etc. So that's 4 teams

Then some of the other major clubs will possibly sign a CF this summer. For example, either Man C or Real will have Haaland, and therefore won't go for Kane so that's one less which leaves us with 3 teams...

I'm not saying that Kane will definitely stay next summer, but I don't think its 0% chance at all

Yeah but Poch…
I mean Poch…
We all know it’s about Poch…

I really hope it goes tits up for poch at chelsea, if not I could easily see him bringing Kane there as the last piece to go for the title next summer.

I think he'd need to get them winning the league this season for Kane to consider going there. Just don't see it

And if they do win the league, then one of the two CFs which they've just signed this summer will have bagged 25-30 goals so they probably wont need Kane

Sorry yes, I knew what you was implying first time round. Kane is going to be 31 next summer, I'm sorry but I just don't envisage him sticking around because we've had a decent season and potential to challenge, when there will be the likes of Bayern who quite clearly Kane is open to, likely a Real Madrid and/or Emirates Marketing Project would be open to him on a free. He's well aware this will be his last major contract and opportunity to not just pad his stats but get some serious trophies on the CV.

I would love for you to be right, we'd all love that romantic ending of him signing a new deal and winning things here. I just don't see any of it happening, but more than happy to be wrong....
