Harry Kane MBE

Think that's the most likely case, but with a lot of noise in between.

Would be great if we could get agreement with him on a new deal and given he could walk for nothing next summer when he'd be 30, we should be able to rationally get our head around including a non-crazy release clause in that, even say £80m. Better for us than him walking for nothing
There's no way he's signing a new deal.
With what went before...He wants to be in full control of his destiny over the next 12 months.

Which is why we need to get rid now as it will hang over us the entire season
Everyone can be quite relaxed about it imo.

If he says he's staying and seeing out his contract, he and we know it's his final season. There's certainty as we have no control come June 2024.

The only thing that could change is Ange (or whomever, let's not jump the gun) gets us on a big upcurve and Kane likes what he sees and then stays on.

The family factors which reportedly are one thing which stops Kane leaving now will still be present next summer presumably. Equally he'll still need another season to get Shearer's record so moving overseas will still be unlikely next summer.

I dont think its therefore a foregone conclusion that he walks next summer even if out of contract, but clearly any team which needs a CF will put some big figures in front of him. We'd need to do similarly, albeit likely that our figure won't be as high and we'd need him to accept picking up whatever figure from Spurs, having the stability, not tarnishing his reputation with some fans etc...or say pick up double that amount wherever and having the disruption for him and his family.

I'd prefer him to stay this summer but not so bothered if he leaves as Levy will get a huge figure for him - £150m say. My main concern about him leaving this summer is whether we would invest that £150m well...

Which is why we'd need to give him (i) a large pay rise and (ii) low release clause
That just wouldn't make sense for him. He's on decent money right and knows in just over a year he can likely get a pay rise from whoever signs with whether that's us or a 3rd party. There's no need for a low release fee as at the end of next season he's just free to do whatever he wishes.

If he signs a new deal with I can only see it being for a massive payrise but I can't imagine a low release fee would even come into it. That would be a waste of time and a loss of control from his perspective.

Just don't sign and there you have the cheapest release clause you could ever get.

There isn't really anything in it for Kane to sign that contract though.

The only thing I think we might be able to do is get him to sign a deal until 2025, with a break clause in summer 2024 where there is an agreed minimum release fee (say £75m) that Kane would receive 50% of if he went. That way we at least protect ourselves somewhat from him going on a free transfer. Even with this sort of deal though, if you're Harry Kane you're probably better off just waiting until summer 2024 and having your pick of clubs around the world prepared to pay you upwards of £500k a week.

No way he signs a contract and nor should he, we are now in probably a mutual area where if we want to make off his back we sell him this summer if not he walks for free next year, for me its really as simple as that. Based on the fact he is going to go regardless I think the best way now is to shake hands, get his value now and move on. No point having someone that good in a mid table side thats rebuilding IMO. As much as that hurts, its reality. 150m goes a long way in a rebuild that Ange will need

We're not getting anything like 150m for him but I agree with your general point. I think this summer it would be 80m to 100m for Kane. I say that because in only one years' time Kane can add that sort of number onto his wage package.

80m-100m is a lot more than we will get for him the following summer. The sensible option really is to sell this summer and use those funds to reinvest.

Now sure many will say no we need him for next season and what are we going to do for goals. But we are just staving off the inevitable.

If he's going to leave we might as well get some money for him in the process and maybe we won't fall so far away because in one years time we are going to need to sign a striker but we won't have the 80m that we could possibly get this summer.

I would say somewhere in the middle to avoid a bump fight with every club in Europe in a year. We will find out soon enough IMO

I think Kane would likely stay beyond next season if the next appointment is a success - for that reason i think it was worth going in to next season with him and taking the risk he leaves on a free

But as @Finney Is Back says, any fee this summer counts against what Kane will get in his pocket. Next season his negotiation position is next level.
We could get bids and he could simply say I'm staying.

It would be interesting to gauge who calls the shots in that situation.

I think that's where I'm at.
If we have an uptick as a team...keeping his goals could see us back in the top 4, without him there, no chance. Don't underestimate the size of the hole he'll be leaving.
