Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Truss would be awful, dumbest candidate in the race. Used to be more one nation tory and turned hard right to gain some fans. No morals whatsoever.

I don't like Badenoch either but at least she has some conviction and would likely get things done, I think you can dislike a politicians views but at least respect their style. I think that's what got her this far.

Apologies yes. I disagree with brexit, but can see the argument for leaving the eu. But the version of brexit that Boris “got done” is both a complete shambles and not actually done yet!

and I think the cost of living crisis is directly linked to that outcome albeit it isn’t the only driver.

I bet every other country in the world that has rampant inflation is kicking themselves for leaving the EU too - especially those still in it ;)

We have inflation because

  1. COVID fudged supply and is still fudging supply from China
  2. We've been printing money at record rates like it has no consequences for over a decade

So nothing to do with import and export tariffs increasing due to being outside the eu, and the increased bureaucracy (which we were told would actually decrease following brexit) making it take longer to get goods and materials through customs.
Nothing to do with food production costs massively increasing due to the loss of cheap European labour and massive increases in waste age for the same reason
You do realise that every large car manufacturer from Honda to Nissan to ford is moving production away from the Uk to europe precisely as was predicted would happen, increasing unemployment and reducing in tax income?
Nothing to do with the removal of workers rights and the attempted introduction of fire and rehire on worse terms across both the public sector and private industry?
 
Also what of those supposed world class trade deals that countries were supposedly scrambling over themselves to line up and agree with us post brexit? I haven’t seen a. Single one yet, nor a single brexit benefit. What has that clam Jacob Rees mogg identified in his role as minister for brexit opportunities? He’s been incredibly quiet on this front?

I have no problem with folks who did not want/vote for Brexit ( after all Stop! Hammer time and there is arguments on both sides for and against it). However its happened and i see no reason for those who want to keep the arguments going round in circles to blame the woes we have now over the realitys that we face. Its done ( rightly or wrongly) but we are never going to improve our status until some of us move on and stop bitching about a vote their side lost.

I take your point but I honestly feel like things won’t improve until we admit we made a massive mistake and rejoin the single economy ina Norway style brexit.

I don’t feel like Britain can go it alone as a purely service economy in a global economic system largely dominated by massive trading blocks and economic superpowers.
People refer to our being the 7th largest economy in the world but our position as the English speaking gateway to the European trading block was a significant part of that economic success and it has been lost without being replaced.

Fair enough, but as i have said blaming Brexit for all the whoes we have ( not saying YOU are) but there are still quite a few who do.

We're expected to complete joining the CPTPP before the end of the year

Hold on a minute son, Rees Mogg identified that we can now sell sparkling wine in non-glass bottles. This is a potential Brexit benefit he outlined!


The drinks industry quickly asserted that you need the strength of glass to ensure the integrity of the bottle which has to ferment for years etc. It was laughable.

That's why all the other countries that didn't leave the EU also have inflation of a similar of higher level.

I’m not sure how that works, to be honest. A few people “bitching about” the decision on a football forum aren’t going to have any impact whatsoever. In fact, millions of people “bitching about it” across the country wouldn’t have much of an impact either.

Only the government can drive Brexit forward. It is down to the them to take advantage of the huge opportunities they say the change created - only they can strike the deals and move things forward. The general public can only react to any opportunities that those in charge create.

Unfortunately, 6 years down the line, there’s little sign of any real benefits - and mounting evidence that it was a catastrophic mistake.

The only question now is how do things need to change to get things back on track.

You are suggesting therefore that the governments own data saying a 4% drop in GDP due to Brexit is false? Our government are lying to us?

That’ll be the “parasitic mobsters” who’ve seen their members’ wages fall by an average of 20% in real terms over the past decade?

You might want to remind us all of your position in the employment chain - just so that we can all be clear on any vested interests you might have in keeping wages low and profits high.

It would be good to hear from the government when we will see the high wage economy that we were told Brexit would bring. Surely that £350 million a week on the side of the bus could help to fund a pay rise in the NHS that would keep pace with inflation?
