Emerson Royal

In all honesty I don't think from where peh is you can really predict where that ball is going.
PEH pass wasn't even for Reggie, it was for Kane and he miss hit it. Reggie tried to react but like you say that's a very difficult chance to convert. Most times players don't get to them.
Will need to watch it back. I genuinely thought Reggie could have been more alert but maybe I'm being harsh. Brilliant bit of skill by PEH to be fair. Probably the best thing we did today.
You are.

A) in Conte's system, RWB and LWB are our two most important positions, by far, so obviously he gets scrutiny.
B) Our forwards get a lot of leeway because they've bailed us out countless times before. Has Emerson done so enough by comparison?
C) 'Playing out of position' is a stretch. Doherty was a right wing-back playing left wing-back, on his weaker side, for weeks - that's what I'd call playing out of position. Emerson being moved forward slightly from right full-back to right wing-back is not 'playing out of position', come on.
Defence... CBs are important too. Aggressive, support and and set up attacks. Davies and Dier are too safe to get the most out of a Conte system. Especially central CB...think David Luiz dynamic.

I honestly thought he did pretty well defensively today and we did fudge all going forward which wasn't really on him. Can't believe he's getting slaughtered on here.

If Romero and Dier were on commission today for passes to each other, they'd be driving out the stadium with a boot full of cash. But again, I don't blame them too much, Potter shut down our midfield, which isolated the front three and starved them of ball and Conte had no answer.

If the back three can't pass it to the central midfielders and there isn't a good longer ball (up to the front three, either up to feet, high pass or direct ball in behind) the only remaining options are the wing backs or keep going backwards and sideways.

Unfortunately the wing back areas were a place for buildup play to stop against Brighton.

It's not just what happens in the final third with wing backs. They're also very important in the deeper areas. It's one of the things Doherty has been good at as he's a rather useful combination player. Both wing backs being not very good in tight spaces makes us a lot easier to defend against.

So back to the question, how does Conte solve this position for the last 6 games?

Get better performances out of Royal and/or Reguilon.

Or bring someone else in. Sessegnon (either side) or one of the attackers (Kulu, Lucas or Bergwijn).

Or move to a midfield three. But that comes with other issues.

Not sure which, if any of those, is more likely to succeed really. My guess would be that Conte sticks with it for now.

Another game he starts, another game we look atrocious in.

I don't care much where we finish at this point, but if I have to see this donkey lumbering up the pitch to lose the ball and commit a foul again, I will lose my carefully cultivated sense of inner balance.

Which, incidentally, is more balance than Emerson has shown in the entire time he's been here.

The Prem is a step up from bullying Cadiz or Getafe or whatever Spanish sides he's used to playing, and the transition can be hard, I get that.

But you can't teach skill, can' t teach a bloke how to trap a ball at 22 years of age. He's the only Brazilian in the world who can't kick a damn football - just our luck we end up with him.

He is a wing back, he gives us nothing going forward, and playing with wingbacks means we cannot play an extra forward. This formation does not suit us at the moment, but Conte is so stubborn that next week I expect to see Royale start again in the same formation

I honestly thought Sanchez was coming on for him and Romero was going RWB

They had the opposite from the teams they played
Defences making unforced errors
Gifts
Like we had against villa and other sides

Not quite. I agree they are basically at our level, but they also have a lot of players on the pitch who are good passers with an excellent first touch - Odegaard, Smith-Rowe, Saka. It allows them to create when (as now) their wing backs are out.

Who do we have? Deki? The ghost of Harry Kane, who seems to have done both his ankles wandering around the golf courses in Augusta?

We need better technical players, simple as that.

I’m right on the opposition
They didn’t have to work hard for the goals they scored thsi week
Some ropey dog brick defending was why
