Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player


sheikhy fudged my nasal passage..was on the verge of spilling serious goo over ledley when i read that and the bloody thing got choked when i laughed instead. and i ain't chich. i don't find it arousing to get choked. my bronchitis tends to play up.
 
Pretty relaxed about him leaving tbh, alot more relaxed than I was last summer. If he goes to Madrid for £35m then we have had 4 of his best years, got over double what we payed for him and sold him to one undoubtedly one of the greatest clubs/institutions in the sporting world.

I am sure we have someone in mind and ready to go in terms of a replacement and with the excitement of the new regime under AVB combined with movement on the stadium issue and opening of the training ground, I am more than happy for him to go although it has to be abroad so Real Madrid/PSG only.

Still, I trust the chairman to get the best possible deal, and 35 million seems somewhat short of that. He's still got, what, four years on his contract? And we did turn down 40 million last summer I'm still hoping for a fee of around that mark this time around, should give us the funds to sign a top-class player, be it a replacement for him or another addition to the s1uad (Falcao, hint hint).

Just to draw an accurate comparison, £40m was worth €45.452m around the time that Chelsea offer came through.

So, if we're still asking €40-45m today, ie: a year later, then that's still in-line with Chelsea's offer.

The £ has since grown in strength, so it's more expensive for Real Madrid to buy a player from us, but - conversely - it would be cheaper for us to buy from a club where the transaction is completed in €'s.

Yep, agreed . We cant begrudge a player moving to Real Madrid after four years of service and a 100% profit on what we originally paid.
 
Also it not being Chelsea helps.

Selling to Chelsea means strengthening a rival while potentially weakening ourselves. Selling to Madrid doesn't affect us in the same way. When it does, we'll be able to afford to keep players like Modric.

Completely slipped my mind, that. I think it's down to me assuming football operates in a somewhat different world where currency fluctuations don't apply. Ah, well. Danke Schon, objection withdrawn. :)
 
Sell him abroad, please.

I would also like this saga to end know. Sell him to the best possible fee or make him stay for another season. I'm sick of reading about this transfer now.
 
Chelsea offered £40m but surely we'd all accept it if we could get Modric out of the premiership for say £35m? The price naturally goes up for English clubs, it goes up again for a rival. Also, he wasn't as good last season as he was in the two previous seasons IMO.

not really actually, its a sure fire way of getting the best of whats coming through the world ranks.

we did it between the era of santini and ramos..bringing in LOOOOADS of players and discarding those that dont make the grde and inching our way forward that way until we had enough good players that getting people better than them becomes signifcantly hard

chelsea just doing the same but on a bigger scale, which is plausible seeing as they have a guy with more money than sense AND they are CL winners

You dont honestly think that if they get all these players that they are actually going to keep all of them for the length of their contracts.

no they'll see how each one plays / adapts....find out how good they are and then discard the rest..whether it be loan, sale or if the player is happy taking a fat pay check to do nothing.

ever seen how a big time corporation or conglomerate operates in order to stay on top? its just like that
 
Modric ok mate thanks for the last few seasons etc , you came from Zagreb etc and it was THFC what put you on the map . You are now rich as a result . Our club stands for so much more than I think you will ever understand ... I could harp on for ages , I won't but check out the jimmy g 2 websites video compilation , there's more spirit in 3 mins of playback there , more soul than in the whole of croatian football history ...
