Mighty Spurs vs SCBC

You're one of the better posters here but you're wrong on Romero. He's a star. Only fear I have is he's ultra aggressive and will make some mistakes and I don't trust some of our lads to effectively cover for him. But he is a top, top player.

that's my fear too, you can't be a loose cannon from that slot, the outside cb's need to trust that you are where you should be all of the time because you will not always be in their cone of vision

The only time we had control in the midfield it was then Kane droped down… I know Conte whant to play this way but if you dont have the team for it you need to change things

Yep. Ultimately, Conte is responsible. He likes to play one way but today we needed more in the middle. But the side also have to impose themselves better. We start ontop. We start the game playing to a plan. But we let sides back in through a few sloppy errors, heads drop, and we can't reassert our control. By the end of the first half we were a mess. Reset at half time, played okay again, then lost control at the end.

No wonder the club are hiring a psychologist. The way our heads drop when things aren't working, and the lack of group determination to galvanise and regain control is an issue. Some of it is ability related - missed passes/lack of movement - but a lot of it is mental IMO.

It was said in a previous post about the likes of PSG Real and Barca selling us players. If they were any good there`s no way they would be letting them go.
COYS

PSG Barca see us as we used to see Stoke, a good team to palm your rejects off onto. The might be the odd exception such as Van De Vaart. But on the whole we should avoid these clubs unless it is for academy players who they want to keep but we can offer progression to the first team.

It is like Levy is so super excited to be dealing with them he does not realise they can sign cack players.

Reguilon is alright going forward. He made his name as an attacking full-back for Sevilla - for us, he just arrives in the box too late + too exhausted from chundering up field, and misses as a result.

But you can tell that we look for him as an instinctual release when breaking - we play the ball into spaces we expect him to be in.

Royal? fudge no.

Reguillon is a myth. Tbf, it’s as much the system as the player. We’d get no less out of him as a Left back in a 4. But we’d have an extra body in midfield.

Thats because his short comings, which are plenty, are covered by the other 4 players we have în defense. He has made plenty of mistakes, but people only "see" when it hurts, like today. Was awful against Liverpool too, cost us the win.
As for the grading system, ok. Dier is only good enough to play for the 15th team în the league, Davies for the 18th and Sanchez for the 19th
That’s all we’ve got and my initial point remains, Dier will be a better option for us than Sanchez. Which it seems in a roundabout way you agree with!
If it helps I think it’s an area we need to address and have probably made comments about replacing all three players over the last couple of years, but we are stuck with them until the summer at least.

Reggie's attacking stats must we woeful. This game alone he should have slotted a goal home, and had at least one assist. I agree Royal is no better going forward. But he's younger and only just joined.

Far better CBs across the league than Dier , Davies and Sanchez.

I think you can throw a blanket over most of them, city are top of the league, and all of theirs a brick, I like Silva at Chelsea, the rest are brick, I like Varane, but Maguire, really?

maybe you mean rob holding ;)?

Its bloddy under 2 weeks after the window shut down. Pay the fudging money and get the players in

Yes absolutely..but the problem is our scouts over recent years are seeking out players
that are simply second class IMO. Where is the observation coming from.
Its not always easy to pick out really good players. I think even Cloughy had made the odd mistake but the last couple of years or so we have bought some stinkers and paid good money. Boy how did we ever pick out Modric and Berebatov..will we ever pull off signings like those again?
Anyway..forever ranting...

He’s top quality but he doesn’t seem the type of player who has a calming influence on those around him, something we badly need.

Play Kulu at RWB
Royal at LCB
Sess at RWB

...and we'd impove. Kulu may not be fast, but he is at least comfortable when attacking. In Conte's setup, the wingers are crucial. They often have the space. Sessengon and Kulu would need some patience, but I think it would be worth it. They'll need to bed in, but they would offer more assists and goals. Royal for me is a good defender. He's never going to be a great attacker, unless something clicks - maybe over a pre-season. But it won't happen now mid-season. He is only just 23 though, and I'll defend him atm while everyone has a pop!

Juventus fans were happy to offload Kulu and Bentancur to us like we would be to offload Lo Celso and Ndombele for 70 mil euros. Any of the 2 wouldn't be my choice în signing, but I agree we need to give them time and chances. Bentancur was only around 20 mil euros and Kulu is still on loan(but so was Lo Celso and we spent anyway). Kulu could be another dumb move on our part if we chose to buy him and he doesnt deliver, he will cost us 43 mil euros, like other flops we know. We need to be more careful. Hope they both work out and will make us a better team.

Imagine trying to calm Sanchez and Emerson when they have an evening like that...

Is Dier the answer to that question because I think you raise a fair point. We looked uncomfortable all evening and never had control.

Holding is top notch !

Varane is class . I’d have all of City’s and Chelski’s CBs over Dier , Davies and Sanchez.

Coady , Webster , Dunk all better than Sanchez and Davies in my view. Would it be that hard to find a league proven CB ? Sanchez is a car crash .

That stems from the middle of the pitch . We just surrender possession. I’d like to see a three man midfield. We lack control in there.

I know it’s the way Conte likes to play but defence is not good enough to be under pressure for majority of game

I was glad to get rid of Ndomeble, but it's not always as simple as a player being not good enough, Leeds were happy to move on Cantona, Inter to move on Pirlo, Bordeaux with Zidane, football is full of such tales. Apparently we even tried to bin of Bale at one point.
