Mighty Spurs vs SCBC

He doesn't know it. That's the problem - if he knew he was sh*te, life would be grand because he'd be off back to Ajax or whatever middling side can stand the fact that he has the footballing intelligence of a constipated anteater.

He genuinely thinks he isn't a donkey. And so he backs himself constantly in duels he can't win, misjudges the ball constantly because he's oblivious to the danger around him, and unless he has Romero or Dier holding his hand and making up for his lack of a brain, he lets us down on the regular.

He should have been sold in the summer. He should have been sold in January.

He's still here. And he's still sh*te.

Ajax wouldn't want him, sadly. I think he oozes the self confidence of a pimpled 14-year old boy with coke bottle glasses - just looks so insecure. Did you see that five centimeter pass he did to Winks in injury time? Jesus. No player with confidence does that. I don't know how playing Rodon instead of him could be so much worse for us. Rodon must be proper brick not to get into the team in front of Sanchez.

No substitute for him, he is our single LCB, we are that LAUGHABLE.

Yeah, and Conte asked for an LCB too, so it's not like he didn't know that was a glaring weakness.

We waited until January 31 as we always do, gave him jack sh*t.

And then we're surprised when mediocre bench-warmers who spent the majority of their time watching on from the stands when we were actually good, like Davies, end up making blunders.

Mediocrity. We have sunken to thinking Davies et al are good enough - they are not, there is a reason why Poch benched them and then still felt his bench was too weak.

So fudging annoyed.

Was so looking forward to this game; wife's out, kids sleeping, covid finally shaken off, first beer for a month, and then this. fudge me.

Ok, there's never a guarantee with Spurs, but sweet Jesus this was an as abysmal performance as I've witnessed for quite a while.

Expectation: 10
Reality: 0

Don't know how I'll shake this disappointment off and sleep soundly, TBH.

Same. Been looking forward to his all week. I even bought a new fudging recliner to watch the game in today! fudge sake. Never gonna use it again.

Same here and also had Covid recently.
This was a chance to turn the corner, and yet the same old mistakes from Nuno and Mourhino teams still there.

At least you've recovered from Covid though, hope all is well.

You speak of Dier like he is some class defender. În reality we only hung on to him in the summer because no one else wanted him. He is clear of Sanchez and Dier but that doesnt mean much at all
I really don’t.
Romero is class.
Dier has faults but is streets ahead of Sanchez and is a reasonable anchor in a back 3, which will allow Romero to play RCB and contribute to keeping the ball. Ideally without Royal next to him

Nah - I do remember his Bambi-like run upfield in the first half, where we had 3 on two and it just needed a square 5-yard pass to Lucas or Kane to set them away and he punted it behind everyone and then apologetically ran backwards and bundled into a Saints player, conceding a foul.

Summed up Sanchez for me. Even on the rare occasion he finds himself in a good place, he f*cks it up eventually.

Dier has had a very good season so far. He's the only defender we have that actually leads and organises the defence, it's not just about his individual performance, he helps the others around him

Its easy! Just pick a number.
1.Get the bloddy players we need to play Conte style!
2. change the formation.
3. get manager that dont rate this formation.

the backline are so stressed with the ball. The way we play its bloddy lick if we dont loose games

Who else do we play there? Doherty?

The only possible way I see our RWB situation working on now is Lucas being deployed there (and he's lazy enough tracking back that this would be a big risk).

Otherwise, we will see plenty more times why Conte asked for a RWB despite Royal having only arrived six months ago.

All credit to Southampton. They played like an early Poch side pressing high and they managed to see it out when they tired. They had a few days extra on us since they last played.

The most disappointing thing for me is the lack of team belief - how easily this lot seem to get rattled. Press us, get us jittery, and we crumble. We start games with composure and a plan, then it dissipates until we relinquish control. The first 20-25 of each half we played okay. They did outnumber us in midfield often and were able to throw everything at our defense.

For me upgrading Davies, Reggie, Winks and Sanchez will help us to take a step forward. Each are fine players on their day. None are really good enough to play week in and out. Royal I'll cut some slack, his first season and just turned 23.

He just lacks the intelligence and technique
He is functional at times and has had some good games but his lack of ability on the ball along with the rest of the right hand side tonight…

I see Davies getting a lot of stick. Did badly on the first but thought he had a decent game. Easily 4 or 5 others were much worse than him.
My thoughts too. He had a mare with his swinger which was followed by other faults for their first goal and has been reasonable in this style. I’d prioritise Sanchez Royal PEH and Winks being replaced in the first X1.

we need Dier back in the middle, for all of his strengths, Romero doesn't control the line and is not consistent in his depth

Doherty playing with Kulu could work as it’s one under lapping and another one who can pass
