O/T Most memorable post in Glory-glory history?

Some of Mick's posts on here a few weeks ago were hilarious!

Gutterboy does type a lot of nonsense, but he does occasionally come up with some pretty funny thread titles, "Redknapp hitches skirt for Chelsea" "Reddies going down".

Nicely sidestepped Crawley more step overs than ronaldo!! :)

I don't envy you though being a mod it must be pretty tiresome but TMK is right in what he says.

I didn't side-step it. That was a fact. I'm obviously not going to go into a full breakdown of every single issue we pull a poster up over, am I?

No, no. YOU are missing the point.

There are rules at the top of every forum. If those rules are broken, and then reported, we act (have already issued infraction points tonight).
The comments you are refering to may indeed be snidey, in your opinion, but they stay within the rules.
This is when your ignore function would work so well.......when you see threads developing like that, ignore the culprits until they actually break a rule. I fully understand there are some clever/crafty posters who know how far to push things, but they manage to stop short of actual abuse, as I'm sure you are aware.

If we enhanced our rules to make them anymore stringent, we would be accused of nazi-ism again.

But they don't do they? They insinuate things instead which is FAR worse than actually coming out saying it.

Agreed that you have an almost impossible job, like a referee if you will. But someone who is clearly wumming it for their own amusement is far worse than someone reacting to them and calling them a prick or a taco. As long as they don't get too personal or belittle them.

If someone said that to me in the pub, we wouldn't be in the pub very long. To be honest it is that sort of comment that winds me up, because it's attacking the intelligence and views of the poster on a personal level. I'll go after the post, not the poster. If I think the poster is being a taco, I'll call them up on their behaviour...not their views. I've had arguments on this forum with posters that I don't even know, and yet they remember me. They think we have some sort of historical beef and yet I can't remember them at all, and the reason for that is I don't usually concentrate on the poster but I will get in heated discussions about a topic or the nature of that particular thread.

I meant more amongst mates which, considering how much time we spend on here, we kind of are. I know what you mean though maybe because I don't hold grudges but some do and even if they sort of agree with what your saying you still get the sense that they're tinkled off with you due to some previous argument. Pathetic.

This is not aimed at you BTW.

Everyone is more than allowed to think someone posts nonsense, but comment on the post, not the poster.

You want to stop the rot, you don't go after aggressive posters reacting. You go after the trouble makers at the beginning, making snide comments about other posters/players/managers etc in practically every single thread when that comment is out of place. And what makes it even more laughable is that those snide posters are the same ones who are hypocrits and will attack other posters for doing what they do towards a player/manager/poster they do like/rate.

That is a very difficult way to moderate because it is such a grey area and takes one hell of a lot of work from the mod team. We would also always prefer to give someone the benefit of the doubt and a second (third, fourth, fifth...) chance. Outright bans are very rare here.

In real life it's easier to gauge people's emotions and reactions than through writing. A lot of aggro could be avoided if people relaxed a bit and didn't take everything so personal.

I understand that viewpoint. But where do we draw the line?

We took bloody ages to come up with what we thought were a decent set of rules without trying to stifle free speech too much.
I guess at this stage I should remind everyone how much more other forums are moderated compared to this one. I still believe we are pretty lenient.

Worst type of post on here?

When someone belittles someone else's opinion or makes a joke at their expense (when they are not mates and it's not banter) and then some prick just replies to it with a laughing smiley. It's fine when it's a troll from another club, when its a regular poster its bang out of order regardless of how outlandish or stupid the original comment was. There was a thread the other day when the poster Bale wrote something controversial and practically the whole board, including a couple of mods, ganged up on him to take the tinkle in a nasty manner. All slapping each other on the back with their so called witty remarks etc. It was quite frankly, disgusting and yet I bet not one person got an infraction over that.

Someone who is clearly being a WUM would get a PM from one of the mods asking them to stop doing it and avoid doing so in future. If they do it again, they would probably get either minor or medium infraction points, depending on what they have said and the way they say it.

These discussions and actions are invisible to you lot, I think that this is the right way of going about things and I do not think it is fair or that the board would run better if we gave a running commentary.

Yes. A fair comment, and I was one of the guilty ones there. hands up to that. In our defense, we are not only mods, but genuine posters (and fans) too, and sometimes we just want to join in as regular posters.

I don't think Bale was subject to any rule breaking posts for that comment, but a moments hesitation may have resulted in me maybe not joining in.

It was a really daft post though.

That's all very well and yet I see the same WUMs posting on a daily basis, doing the same brick and baiting the same posters who eventually snap. Or at least I did until I blocked them. So whatever is happening behind the scenes, isn't working. And all it's doing is driving away passionate articulate posters who can no longer be bothered to deal with the puerile nonsense that comes from a small minority who continue to be allowed to get away with it.

I didn't agree with the opinion but once one person has called him on it, why does it then take about half a dozen to do the same and then continue doing the same making fun with each other out of that one poster? It almost became a sport to see who could take the tinkle the most or be the wittiest against him. It was out of order. Far more so than two posters with history going at it and one of them calling the other an abusive name.

There are people who post on here who think that you are a WUM, I disagree and enjoy your posts and contribution to the board but where do we draw the line?
