Coronavirus

I think we are heading into a mini lockdown. Local shops near me are closed because of staff shortages. We have seen record positives at work and the covid testing company we use have no staff and have said they are seeing record positives. France and other European countries looking more likely to close borders again.

think we've been so focused on hospitilisations and sickness levels, we've completely mis-read the upcoming situation. If you have a large proportion of people ill, squeezed into a short timeframe, as one analogy put it, imagine 1 years rainfall in 1 day, it will cause a deluge and overwhelm still.

Lots of people ill, absent, isolating in a short time, this will hit economies, countries HARD.
You could say on the flip side that everyone will be pushed thru the envelope within a month.
It then depends on the level of illness across the board, and the isolation rules. If you're positive and have zero or mild symptoms, should you be allowed to carry on working based on the transmissibility being so high everyone is going to catch it via one route or another. That's the difficult call BUT judging by increased infection numbers may well not be our decision.

The other thing is that if this is fully airborne, isolation isn't going to work in blocks of flats for instance. Had the stories from the quarantine hotels where even though people didn't leave their rooms it still spread.

There will also be a massive temptation to not test and/or not report a positive test, particularly this coming week. Keep calm and carry on as it were.

Have felt a bit rough since Sunday. Headaches, sore throat, bit of a cough, fatigue. Comes and goes. Lots of kids in my classes have tested positive this week. All my LFTs are negative though.

Maybe just an old-fashioned cold?

I doubt you've escaped those pesky kids...have you got a local PCR drive in?

Omicron is headaches and chills, but should still give a positive lft. Perhaps get a drive through pcr two days before you see your relatives at Christmas.

  • Scratchy throat
  • Dry cough
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Mild muscle aches
  • Night sweats
These seem to be the common issues with Omicron. Not many reports at all of loss of taste and smell, it's been widely reported yet Govt guidelines still refer to original strain throught to Delta.

therefore people may assume cold/light flu when in reality it's Omicron.

Doc on Sky News was saying get a PCR in this instance. Also depends how 'rigourous' you do your LFT, are you swabbing the right amount of time and to the right depth in throat and nose.

Yesterday they said feeling bunged-up but not snotty and back-ache were the two main symptoms.

I have a feeling the basic plan (ie the Gov) is to wallop thru boosters as an insurance against serious illness then let Omnicron wash thru unabated in double quick time (the dream they had right back at the beginning), so ramping herd immunity and hoping that triple vac and natural infection is the immunity golden ticket

cant remember if i shared this previosuly but a lot of investigation on whether Omicron came through the human population. Sars-Cov2 is different to many other viruses as it seems to flow about between human and animal population with ease.

A recent study on whether Omicron came from Mice has just been produced. Remember early on in the pandemic people were concerned about Mink and the ability they were picking up, and mutating Covid, leading to them slaughtering thousands of animals (by the way, these Mink weren't being raised for Pets let's be honest, they were always going to be slaughtered).

Ok conspiracy mode (although from the us government in freedom of information requests).
Lab in wuhan working on coronaviruses.
Bats from laos (with the most similar strain of coronavirus to covid 2 known) exported to the lab in wuhan.
Scientist asking us government for funds for gain of function experiments (making it more transmissible and mutate faster) on the virus in the lab in wuhan. Refused but other gain of function experiments had been ok'd. Did he ask for funds from elsewhere?

We'll never know the truth. But if i was a betting man i would say that someone wanted to make a little money on the side by selling animals that should have been destroyed.

I heard on good authority the nurse that had ebola in the royal free. Her bed was meant to be incinerated. But was instead wiped down with bleach and sold on.

I try to avoid conspiracy theories but the potential of leak from Wuhan's lab is definitely high on the probability scale. I certainly do not think it was intentional in any way, but some form of testing, accidental leak (potentially testing something they didn't believe was lethal but as we have seen, has behaved outside of the norm or historic versions of Sars-COV1), definitely high. We'll never know because China would never admit or allow investigation, but definitely not something that can be ruled out at all costs.

Seeing as other countries were also funding experiments there (including the us) doubt they want to find out the truth.
