yeah I’d say refusing to turn up for training (remember he was rumoured to have said this is what he would do whilst with England so there are reasons to believe that’s what he is doing) is the equivalent of laying down the gauntlet.

Actually funny if true. All I did was not turn up to training with the first game of the season approaching quickly. While apparently giving no indication of when to return.
So overblown, it's just a form of communication.
Quite happy to see back peddling, don't get me wrong, we need his quality, his goals. But the way he's handled this will not be forgotten.
