Next Manager?

We need someone on the up, who plays good football, with a good team ethic. Potter and Wilder fit the bill (from this league). Whether they are good enough, only time will tell, but we need to take a chance.

Nuno took wolves from championship to two 7th placed finishes. Last season was a dip but they'd sold jota and jiminez was injured. They still finished above brighton on a smaller budget.
Ok potters football is more attractive but purely on paper nuno is ahead of him.

Good, but there are enough flashing red lights regarding his links to Mendes and his entourage of coaches and whatnot without even considering the playing style.

He wouldnt be my first choice however its almost July. The Mendes association isn't great but I'd be willing to give him a pass, for now, on playing style given that he was apparently trying to improve it this season.

We're pretty desperate now and just need someone in, whether thats Nuno, Potter or whoever. There's pros and cons or all of them and therefore certainty is more important than anything else now IMO

Paratici will be in charge of signings. Ronaldo is the only mendes player he's ever signed. So not too concerned about mendes.

To be honest, I’ve just read The Athletic piece about him. Around the constraints he faced last season (Jiminez injury, fatigue after a deep Europa run and a small squad) and I think I’m fine with him now.

It seems like he had the intention to open Wolves up a bit and evolve them as he knew he needed to beat the bad sides with more regularity if they wanted to puncture the top 6. Here, he will have a deep squad, more finances that he’s used to, but still with enough pragmatism and focus on structure that we need, to help us over perform against the more monied clubs.

I’m actually fully on board with the appointment as long as he evolves the style. The more I read about him, the respect players have for him, the love the fans had for him, he’s quite Poch like for them. (My boss, a Wolves fan actually said he was their Poch). He’ll improve our players, he’ll give youth a chance, and he’s probably earned this job (take out last season and his record would be impressive for sure).

Just read it this morning - five time zones to the west. Good perspective on him. Let's be havin' 'im.

There doesn’t have to be a connection between whether Spurs have mismanaged their recruitment of a manager and whether the media have massively overplayed their hand in what they know.

Our manager search hasn’t been ideal whatever way you look at it. But it is also apparent that reporters, including those who some appear to hold in high regard have been flat out wrong several times, for whatever reason.

Ali Gold as an example didn’t break any of these stories, but was quite happy to claim Conte, Fonseca and Gattuso was close - No one has said this is all fabrication, merely that there were likely some form of talks with all these potential suitors, but not to the point that we were on the verge of completing a deal.

Around five managers all on the cusp of signing and then miraculously the ‘deal collapsed’ each and every time? Sorry but just no. You can believe that if you want but the far more likely story is that journos have got carried away in how far down the line we were with these guys in order to get their click throughs…..

Very good post and bang on the money IMO.

He is a good manager no doubt IMO
He suits certain teams
He also did well because his team was backed with a LOT of money proportionate to the level of the clubs around them

And conversely, no-one has claimed we were 'on the brink' of inking with any of them. I have seen Alastair Gold tagged as a dirt merchant when it is simply not true, he reports and is very open about what is NOT confirmed or is weird conjecture.

What is undeniable is that information has been floated out and we have been in advanced discussions with three at least (Fonseca, Conte and Poch). I know you listen to the pod so you will know my theory as to why this happened.

Solely saying that 'the media is responsible' starts to sound a bit 'fake newsy'...

There is absolutely middle ground, and the truth in this case certainly lies there. But it is important (IMO) to see what is and isn't tangible.

Just checked on tranfermarkt. In the last 3 seasons brighton spent £137m, wolves spent £166m, burnley spent £30m.

On that count dyche should be the man.

Still holding out hope of galtier (lille spent minus €150m) or gasperini ( atalanta spent minus €10m).

Seriously why is nobody going all out for galtier? I know campos gets some of the credit but still.

They spent £166m and that is low for what they brought because of the Mended fix don’t forget

and I don’t get why no one isn’t after Galtier as he is class IMO

Lol…it looks like that is exactly what happened though? I’ve not seen any remotely respected journalist say anything other than ‘advanced talks’ at most. What does advanced mean to you?

The exception is Fonseca, where there are stories about contracts being drawn up, visa applications being made and his wife talking about being excited about a new adventure.

I do this think our manager search has just been as chaotic as it appears, and attempts to try claim the journalists have been lying or exaggerating are ways of trying to defend the club and make them seem like they are super in control, as if people don’t want to believe it might just have been that much of a hard search.

Looking back at it now, the people who were top candidates mentioned seem to be exactly who the top candidates actually were at the time. I think we really did make a serious move for Conte but both he and us pulled back. I think we did try seriously for Fonseca, I think Paratici probably did quite seriously go for Gattuso. No journo is making up links to fill the time in between each of these candidates - since Gattuso there was no other name mentioned until Nuno is then spoken about seriously. Because he likely is being very seriously considered.

I think we sacked Jose without a replacement lined up, I think we waited to see who became available at the end of the season hence Conte. Clearly Poch has strong bonds so we very likely asked the question. And then Paratici coming in very likely added a whole new raft of names to the mix. I’m not saying this is all evil Levy’s fault, and it proves he is incompetent, but I think it’s fair to say we have tried a hell of a lot of options this summer and there hasn’t been one clear direction we were set on. It’s ok to admit that rather than trying to claim the media is lying to you.

Responsible journalists discover the rumour then chase down quotes before publishing.

Clickbait trash journos publish the rumour as is.

So there have been no quotes on the Harry Kane City ‘bid’ this week. Do you believe that has been made up or just a ‘rumour’? Genuinely interested in your response here.

I think @thfcsteff has explained things pretty well in terms of how the media works - having worked in PR for quite some time - and how it’s often in a journalist’s interests to ‘protect’ their source by not quoting them or not have them go ‘on the record’.

I think it's lazy, irresponsible journalism. Whether or not there's any truth in what they've published doesn't make an iota of difference.

For what it's worth, I think City would love Kane but I doubt they've made a bid and I certainly don't think the press have a clue as to the size of any bid if one has been made.

They can print direct quotes without attributing them. If their source insists on being off the record then that is research, not a story. Once they get evidence or someone to speak on the record, then it's a story.
