Jose Mourinho - SACKED

that would be an amazing result. Get the next man lined up and 1 minute after the Leicester game fire Jose...do it on the touchline at Leicester just to humiliate him more, just like he's humiliated our club with the football we've had to witness

...and absolve the players of all responsibility, despite them doing the same thing to the last bloke.

Perfect! Top managers will be queuing up to take over.

I don't think we will get a top manager. We have not got the finances at the moment.
As someone else said, I would like a manager who can coach and give players order and purpose.

There is no way there will be a mass exodus of players.

Shakes head at recent posts. I stand with Jose and as said earlier I am willing to give this season to deal with certain problems. How long did it take Fergie at United?
There's no point in talking about 30-35 years ago and how long it took Fergie, football and the world are totally different places now.

You are willing to give Mourinho this season to deal with certain problems, fair enough, but he is looking more and more to be a big part
of the problem. The dressing room is obviously split from what Lloris has said. The football is horrible 90% of the time and not enjoyable,
win or lose. There doesn't seem to be any plan or style with our play beyond getting it to Kane and Son. But the biggest problem is how
divisive a character he is. I'd rather a fresh start with a manager that everyone can get behind and get some feel-good factor back into
the club

I’d absolutely stick with Jose for now, I think there is a higher chance of him making headway in clearing out the rubbish than a new person coming in and giving everyone a(nother) chance.

It might be that really difficult decisions need to be made, that some of the fan favourites are actually the problem, it needs a strong character to execute such changes.

If we are not looking like certainties for CL qualification by Christmas, then it’s time to act, and whichever poor fudger comes in to fail next, they should get at least two calendar years too.

Castles is very close to Mourinho so I'd imagine this is accurate.

Not surprised in the least. I'd said from the start that there was no way Levy was tying himself into a 45m contract come what may especially with a manager who can be as destructive as Mourinho and given we are loaded with the stadium debt. Levy is too shrewd an operator and too cautious with finances despite his obvious admiration for Jose.

I always understood why Levy took the gamble. I doubted it would work beyond the usual 2-3 years but didn't think it would be this poor. If Levy has insulated us from taking a massive financial hit on this, I think he's done his job well despite the result. He got a manager with proven success, he backed him, it didn't work out.

The narrative in the media is changing too:

It's just a matter of time.

Edit: just seen the contradictory post above. If Levy has given a guaranteed 45m contract, he's been a bit reckless. I can't believe he's been that naive.

Spurs the only club to break Jose.
I think the problem has always been selling. Levy has financial criteria which results in us accumating deadwood and leaving managers with unbalanced teams.
We need a dof who can override Levy and the committee, and find new ways to manage the finances and performances on the pitch.

We need players that don't turn into deadwood.

A DoF won't make a difference in the actual trading, money out will never be more than money in, and no player will be bought/sold for more/less than they are worth on the books.

A DoF helps in that we will get to players sooner, before they have moved to other PL clubs, that our scouts are suggesting players we've all already seen on the MotD is the problem, I'd hope that the right DoF would improve the quality of mentality we sign too, reducing the ridiculous performance variance we have historically dealt with.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the reverse were true.... and if it is true then Levy has fcuked up royally!

If true, I’d agree 100%. Mourinho was always a risk. Proven winner, one of the great managers but potentially toxic and at a club that operated in a way different to any he was at before. If Levy didn’t factor that into the contract especially after Chelsea and United, I’d be very disappointed in him. It’d mean his heart ruled his head and he was naive. They’re both things I never thought I’d say about Levy.

Man utd were cack and required a major rebuild of the club not just team, that's why it took seven years.
Not comparable situations.

I remember mocking the ManUre fans at my primary school about how long it had been since they last won the title but see that Ron Atkinson actually got them 5 consecutive Top 4 finishes before things went sour, so can see why people are drawing parallels...

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal.../manchester-united-sacked-ron-atkinson-season

In November 1985, Ron Atkinson looked destined to become the first Manchester United manager to win a league title for decades. By November 1986, he had been sacked. United started the 1985-86 campaign by winning their first 10 games and going unbeaten for 15. But with just nine wins from their remaining 27 fixtures, they ended up finishing fourth

A DoF would trade players to improve the team. Dier could be used to fund other positions as would Dele and even Lo Celso.

Not just the incoming but also cutting losses on the old, succession planning etc.

It also means more sophisticated transfer decisions. No more two year transfer embargo to balance the books which was perhaps too naive.

A shrewd DoF might’ve sold Dier to ManU back when his stock was still high and they were desperate enough to spend £40m on Matic.

He would also have sold Eriksen before things got bad. I think we need to be more aggressive with our transfer policy. Sometimes you have to sell a fan favorite if there's a decent offer on the table, not wait until a player is broken and nobody wants him.
