Davinson Sanchez

You may be right but for me the Sanchez was first man out to the ball and in that instance the second CB should be talking him where those behind him are. To be honest i do think that there are some who have slagged him off so many times and he has stuck it back to them over the previous couple of games. And they are trying to jump om him again.

Toby has been a great CB for us but his legs have gone and because of that is caught out of position, and IMO he was for that goal. I dare say there will be some who disagree though.

My view

- Regardless of error, I think it's clear those two are first choice pairing
- I think he should have pushed up for the offside
- Once it got into the box, could have been one or both of them at fault ..

Good news, it didn't cost, probably gave us a bit of a kick up the ass, on to next games, lets hope he keeps on the better performances of late.

I can't dance with that at all, i still think we will bring in another CB is the summer unless Jose sees Rodon pushing into the side.

He wasn’t going to the ball, he was just stopped

Toby has Andros at the far post and couldn’t leave him completely free, there wasn’t the time for Toby to move over and Reggy to cover for Toby.

We need better, we need 2 new CBs -

Disagree that he was at fault, the ball came over his head and Toby stood and watched Benteke run in front of him and head the ball.
Why did the ball go over his head? Perhaps because he wasn't close enough to Benteke to challenge?

It's a difficult situation to deal with. He has to keep an eye on the play of course, he has to be aware of Doherty possibly getting done or a low cross coming in in front of goal. Then he also has to stay close enough to Benteke to challenge in the air.

Things are happening quickly, and it's far from easy. It's not one of those where a centre back can just mostly focus on marking a player.

Still think he should have done better. Or rather, I would expect a centre back good enough to be first choice for us to get that right most of the time.

Getting that wrong once in a while should be expected, with the possible exception of the very best centre backs in the world. But it's "his man" imo.

I think he got caught in a difficult situation, Palace had 3 v 2 on the edge of box and he moved to cover a large open space, we were outnumbered and out done by a good cross and a terrific header, it happens, on an other day the cross is over hit or headed over.

tickle my balls with a feather, and why i posted after the game that he was not the one who should have been marking Benteke in that instance. Toby was behind him and should have been shouting at him not to get drawn to far out. It looks like Toby did not make him aware and he should have taken Benteke before he did.

When though? At the time of the cross Benteke is more or less alone. Something like a second earlier Sanchez is quite close to Benteke, Alderweireld has Ayew (I think) and Reguilon has the man at the far post.

Perhaps Alderweireld should give a shout to Sanchez to mark the man he's close enough to touch if he stretches out his arm. But if Alderweireld is supposed to mark Benteke he has to leave Ayew completely open and move over to Benteke while Sanchez is right next to Benteke.

If the problem is that Alderweireld doesn't give Sanches a shout, can it also be true that Alderweireld should be the one marking Benteke? Surely he shouldn't be shouting at Sanchez to stay close to Benteke and also do the marking job himself.

He was oblivious. Watch it again... he was ball watching, something he does on a regular basis. We will never win anything with this guy in our defence. Do you think he could last 90 or 120 minutes in a cup final against a top side without making a fudge up? If you think he could, I can only say I wish I had your optimism.

Jeez, I know we've set a low bar for Davvo, but that really isn't a buen partido.
He made a couple of tackles and lost a couple of tackles.
He gave away a few fouls.
He won uncontested headers.
He dived in and let the ball squirt away elsewhere.

I mean, it was OK, nothing awful, but so average. Hard to imagine any other Prem centre back struggling to match what he does in that video.

Indeed, I do. Still waiting to see a Ledley-esque performance from someone uniquely equipped to deliver this. Today would be a great day to silence all doubters. All of them.
